Shoot A DC Transwoman, Get A Plea Bargain

My DC trans activist friends are extremely pissed off right now as Darryl Willard was allowed by prosecutors to plea bargain his way out of a more serious charge of assault with intent to kill while armed in reference to a September 12 shooting in Southeast DC in which a transwoman was shot in the neck.

Willard  pleaded guilty to an aggravated assault charge, which carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison and a possible maximum sentence of 10 years in jail instead of the possible 20 years he would have been facing for the more serious charge.

That's got to raise the frustration level of the trans community of Washington DC, who are not only beyond sick and tired of being used for target practice by people inside the Beltway, but sick of the lack of progress by MPD in finding the killers of not only Lashai Mclean, but the almost ten year old murders of transteens Stephanie Thomas and Ukea Davis among other unsolved trans homicides in the District of Columbia..

Willard will be sentenced by D.C. Superior Court Judge Ann O’Reagan Keary on December 6.

I'll keep y'all posted.
