Portugal Passes Gender Recogniton Law

Have two trans girlfriends I talk to on a regular basis in Portugal.   The cool thing is that now they and transpeople in that nation can get ID that matches their gender presentation without surgical intervention.

As of November 25th Portugal has a law regulating legal gender recognition that fills a pressing need in the country.  In addition, Portugal joins Spain and the UK in passing similar laws that don't require genital surgery to do so.   .

All a person has to do under the new law is use a standardized administrative procedure within 8 days.   In addition to the application, a certificate from a medical multi-disciplinary team is necessary to fulfill the pre-conditions.

Once that is done the documentation is issued with the preferred gender ID.

Congratulations!   It's another step forward in helping make the lives of transpeople just a little more bearable by having ID that matches your gender presentation.
