The University of Houston Cougars traveled to Denton,TX to help open the Univeristy of North Texas' new $78 million football stadium last night. For two quarters the 28,075 fans there not only saw North Texas score the first touchdown of the game, the Eagles kept it close for two quarters, trailing 20-17 at halftime.
But a 21 point explosion in the third quarter that took just 78 seconds broke open the game and propelled the Cougars to a 48-23 victory and hopefully into the rankings.
Case Keenum was 26 for 41 for 458 yards and five touchdowns as the Cougars piled up 690 offensive yards in the process of rolling to their second victory of the season.
The improving defense gave up 185 yards in the first half, but only 107 in the second while forcing three turnovers.
Next up for the Cougars is a trip on Sept. 17 to Ruston, LA to take on the 1-1 Louisiana Tech Bulldogs
