Shut Up Fool Awards-9/11 10th Anniversary Edition

Sunday will mark the tenth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks on the World Trade center towers in New York and the Pentagon in Washington DC.   Many of us can recall what we were doing on that fateful day and and how we felt as we watched the events unfold.

As horrible as that day was in terms of the loss of life and the medical problems that some people are still experiencing from that event, it also regenerated a sense of pride in being Americans, engendered sympathy for us from the rest of the planet and set off our determination to bring the Al Qaeda perpetrators of it to justice.

A new building is also rising at the site of the old ones along with a memorial.

It also led to a spike in Islamophobia we're still grappling with, some problematic erosions of civil liberties, a war started in Iraq on a baldfaced lie, another one we're still engaged in fighting in Afghanistan, and the US finally getting Osama bin Laden a few months ago.  It also seems as though we're more divided now than we were before September 11, 2001.

Now that I've tripped down 9/11 memory lane, it's time to focus on our usual Friday business in terms of our weekly search for our Shut Up Fool Award winner.

This week's nominees were Mitt Romney, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL),  Reince Priebus, a group award for Fox Noise, Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), and Sen. Mitch McConnell  (R-KY)

But this week's award goes to Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX) who not only doubled down on his 'social security is an illegal Ponz scheme ' campaign trail rhetoric at the GOP debate at the Raygun Library, also parted his lips and flexed his anti-science credentials as well on global warming.

Well, I do agree that there is -- the science is -- is not settled on this. The idea that we would put Americans' economy at -- at -- at jeopardy based on scientific theory that's not settled yet, to me, is just -- is nonsense. I mean, it -- I mean -- and I tell somebody, I said, just because you have a group of scientists that have stood up and said here is the fact, Galileo got outvoted for a spell.

Dude, we just had the hottest summer in the Lone Star State in 70 years. What more evidence do you need that global warming exists?

Gov. Rick Perry, shut the HELL up fool!
