Miriam Xtravaganza Hospitalized After Brutal NYC Attack

Miriam Rivera AKA Miriam Xtravaganza was hospitalized February 27 with multiple broken bones and internal bleeding after she was attacked and thrown from the 4th floor window of her New York apartment.

She moved from the New York ballroom community to being featured on the Australian 'Big Brother' show. She became world-famous for the controversial 2004 British reality TV show There's Something About Miriam, in which six men competed on the island of Ibiza to win her affections, then the winner was told she was a pre-op transwoman. That led to a lawsuit by the six men to stop the show from airing on British television that was settled out of court.

"I did it because I wanted to know if real love exists. Can a person fall in love?," she stated to TV Plus in an interview during the height of the controvery. Miriam also stated that she "didn't feel used by it."

She caught flak from the British transgender community because they feared that it would turn British public opinion against them at the time they were working for passage of the Gender Recognition Act by Parliament.

"I was trying to be myself and if anyone had asked me about myself I would have told them," Miriam said.

Miriam was unconscious at the time she was taken to the hospital. Her injuries included in addition to internal bleeding two broken legs and multiple broken bones in her arms.

That is so awful...I hope it's prosecuted as a hate crime...She's so beautiful, I hope she recovers fully.

They've got to find them first.

How horrible.

I hope they find whoever did that and punish them severely. Yikes.

this looks most definitely like a hate crime.

The people who assaulted this young lady needs to be found and brought to justice.

This is horrible. I've always been a huge fan of Miriam / Victoria. What animal would do this to a woman? (In my world view she's a woman, and a gorgeous one). I hope she recovers from this crime, and I hope her attacker gets what he deserves. I'd rather not spell out what I think it is he deserves, only this much: people who behave like animals don't deserve to be treated like human beings.

You know, I hated the Reality Show she was in, and hated the ending so much, because it reinforced the cliche that trans woman shouldn't be dated.

But this is just awful and sad. I hope she recovered, and I hope someone was caught and prosecuted for it.

Hello to you all. I am Miriam's agent. I am sorry to say, that yes: The story about her being attacked is true but I am more than happy to tell you that she is recovering. Miriam and I are planning for a second career and she wants you to know that she cherishes all her decent, loyal fans around the world. If you want to leave a line for her, please do so on her temporary websites @ http://www.miriamofficial.de - CU there, Achim

Bigotry is a horrible ugly thing, and I would certainly not say that she deserved what she got. I don't know her and perhaps she is a kind person, but it does not appear that way based on the show. Its premise was deceitful, dishonest, mean, and immature. It is a horrible thing to do and based on that she does not appear to be a good representative of her community.

Jasilko,
It still doesn't justify the attack on her. Besides, it's wrong to judge her based on a jacked up reality TV show.

Direct your anger at the people who produced it, not Miriam.
