Mia Mason Making Historic Maryland Congressional Run!

Mia Mason for Congress - Mia Mason, Election, Political News | Mia Mason for Congress
It's been a while since we've had a trans person elected to their national legislature.   In fact there have been only six trans people on the entire planet,  Georgina Beyer (New Zealand), Vladimir Luxuria (Italy), Anna Grodzka (Poland), Michelle Suarez Bertora (Uruguay), Tamara Adrian (Venezuela), and Geraldine Roman (Philippines) who have accomplished the herculean task of being elected to their national legislatures.

Adrian and Roman are the only ones still serving in their national legislatures.

Of the trans people elected to serve in their national legislatures, none of those have occurred in North American nations, despite various attempts in various North American countries to break through that political glass reinforced by concrete ceiling in the US, Canada, Mexico, and several Central American nations..

Mia Mason is the latest person to step up and attempt the daunting challenge of running for Congress while trans.   She won the June 2  Democratic primary in Maryland's 1st District to earn her shot at making trans political history.

Andy Harris (politician) - Wikipedia
Maryland's 1st District covers the entire Eastern Shore of Maryland, and parts of Baltimore, Harford and Carroll counties.    It is currently represented by Republican Andy Harris, who has represented the district since 2010 and is considered the third most anti-LGBTQ legislator in the US Congress,

He gotta go, and it would deliciously be nice if the first out trans congressmember replaced him.

Mia is a veteran who served 20 years in the Navy, Army and DC National Guard, and since her retirement from the military has worked for various advocacy groups.   She was also a speaker at the 2018 Women's March.

Now she's trying to knock off an incumbent congressmember and make history as she does so.  But she's going to need money to make that happen.   Here's the link to her campaign website in order to make beating Andy Harris a reality and making the conservafools cry on November 3 as they lose another House seat.

Good luck Mia, and hope I have some good news to report about your race on November 3.

Rep. Jennifer Wexton Displays Trans Pride Flag Outside Her DC Congressional Office

Image: A transgender flag stands outside of Representative Jennifer Wexton's office in Washington on Jan. 4, 2019.
When you visit the House and Senate office buildings in Washington DC, in addition to having the nameplate of the representative or senator outside the entry door, there will also be an American flag, their state flag, and then sometimes a third flag of choice on a flagpole outside of the office.

Sometimes that third flag is one for the school they graduated from.  Some have the black POW flags, or the flag representing the branch of the military they served in.

Freshman Representative Jennifer Wexton (D-VA) has a unique one hanging outside her Longworth House Office Building door.  It's the trans pride flag, and she may be the first congressmember to ever display it outside their congressional office door.

Abby Carter, Rep. Wexton's chief of staff, said that she displays the trans pride flag to make a personal statement about trans inclusion.   She the aunt to a trans child, and Del. Danica Roem is one of her Virginia 10th District constituents.

"This is personal for me. We're talking about my family and friends,” Rep. Wexton said in a statement to NBC News. "I want everyone in the trans community to know that they are welcome and loved even in the face of this administration and its attacks on who they are."

"I didn’t think putting it up would be a big deal, but I've received a huge outpouring of support and appreciation from the LGBT community in the past two days," Wexton added. "We’ve been receiving messages from across the country and they've been telling me how much it means to them to see that in the halls of Congress.

It is a huge deal Rep. Wexton.    In a time when trans Americans have been under attack by the federal government and evilgelicals, and feel that their governments at any level don't care about them, to see that trans pride flag outside a congress member's office.

Until trans people get elected to Congress, we will be dependent upon legislative allies to help push the policies and make the laws that make life better for trans Americans.

The next time I go to DC, I'm definitely stopping by to say hello and personally thank you for sending a message to everyone that either stops by your office or walks past it that trans lives matter.

Arizona Family Calls Out Their Racist Congressional Brother

Image result for paul gosar arizona
Many of us in POC America have been saying for years now that progressive white people need to call their racist relatives and family members out instead of ignoring them in silence.

That call for our white allies to call out their racist kin has taken an even more urgent tone as the bigots have come out to play in the wake of Dolt 45's election.

We have an interesting example of how to call out your racist relatives coming from Arizona.

Paul Gosar (R) is a far right wing nut congressman who has repped Arizona's 4th Congressional District since 2013.    Gosar has claimed that the infamous Nazi rally in Charlottesville, VA was planned and executed by 'The Left', defended British far-right activist Tommy Robinson, attacked "disgusting and depraved" Muslim immigrants at a speech in London in July, and in a Vice News interview, called billionaire George Soros a Nazi sympathizer.

His six siblings, horrified and disgusted by his long list of far right peccadilloes, all signed a letter printed in the Kingman Daily Miner stating: "It is extremely upsetting to have to call you out on this, Paul, but you've forced our hand with your deceit and anti-Semitic dog whistle."

The Gosar siblings haven't stopped there.  They are now taking the step of endorsing his Democratic opponent, Dr. David Brill  in the upcoming November election because they don't want him repping the 4th Congressional District any longer.

To make that happen, Tim, David, Jennifer, Grace, Gaston, and Joan Gosar also cut a brutal ad that called their racist brother out.

Brill 's campaign s considered a longshot to unseat Gosar, but when your own family is willing to go on camera to say that you shouldn't be in Congress, that's gotta hurt you big time politically.

We'll find out how effective the ad was on November 6.

Good Luck Alexandra!

The Massachusetts primary election is today, and Trans America has its eyes on the Massachusetts 3rd Congressional District race.

In that crowded field of Democratic candidates vying to replace the retiring Rep Nikki Tsongas (D) is Alexandra Chandler.

If she wins in the primary today, she not only make Massachusetts political history by becoming the first out trans person in the state to win a congressional major party primary, she would get a step closer to becoming the first out trans person ever to be elected to Congress

Good luck Alexandra!   Hope you make history tonight!
