We Didn't Start The Rad Fem War On Trans Women-We're Reacting To It

Denise Brogan-Kator sent me a note entitled Rad Fems and Trans* women that she compiled.  

And as you probably guessed, I had an opinion about the laughable radfem charge that trans women are 'violently attacking them' in a Julian Vigo post and another one at that cesspool of transphobia Gender Trender that I refuse to link to.

What I said in this June 1 post is apropos here:

A few weeks ago I got an email from my friend and former law professor, Catharine MacKinnon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catharine_MacKinnon). She was reaching out to me for my reactions because others had reached out to her about one or more incidents of violence and/or hate speech between the communities of transgender people and radical feminists.

This “problem” has been nagging at me as I’ve continued to read each side’s “position” and its complaints about the other side. This writing will attempt to describe my personal conclusions and thoughts on these issues, which I suspect will, forever, be a work in process.

I would like to state unequivocally that I am opposed to ALL forms of violence, for whatever reason. The incident in question occurred at a recent “Law & Disorder Conference” held in Portland. [1] I am told that there have been other incidents of violence, but I’ve not seen any specific references.

Caveats: I do not hold myself out as, nor believe myself to be, a leading thinker or researcher with respect to sex and gender. I do not have an advanced degree in queer theory or feminism and I do not have an advanced degree in neurobiology. What I do have are core beliefs, through which I shape my actions and which are subject to change with new information and evidence.

I believe:

That gender and the entire system of gender is a social construct that has worked to keep women in a subordinate role and, as aconsequence, has retarded humanity’s positive growth toward an ideal society where men AND women can accurately be said to be created equal.

That violence, short of defense, has no place in our world and that it not only fails to advance the cause of feminism and social development, but also actually reverses it. I believe that violence of any kind reinforces the patriarchy and diminishes us all.

That patriarchy is real and pernicious. It is the common enemy of all fair-minded feminists of any sex and gender.

That sex and gender are not the same. I believe that sex has its basis in biology and that gender and its attendant roles is the exclusive domain of socialization.

I do not know, but I doubt, that sex is anything more than the size of the gamete produced by the body. In other words, I do not know but I doubt that our brains are different in any way that matters.

That said, I do believe there IS a biological difference between men and women – and that biology, especially the effects of sex hormones, do influence behavior (to a greater or lesser degree that is unknown in individuals). HOWEVER, the suggestion that such a difference leads to an inherent male dominance is absurd and destructive. We need not deny the physical differences between men and women to condemn the destructive effects of patriarchy. Difference should never be used as an excuse to dominate.

I believe:

That trans-women such as myself, despite an outward appearance which arguably reinforces the system of gender actually help, in every real sense, toward the deconstruction of gender.

That gender is made not born and, because gender is performative, I also believe, as Catharine put it to me, that there are many ways of becoming a woman including, sadly, sexual assault.

Although I have survived multiple sexual assaults, I believe that I will never fully know the fear that many, if not most, girls and women are all too familiar with. I was 17 before I experienced my first sexual assault. Until that point, I never had a concern about being alone with a man, walking after dark, or in a parking garage. I grew up with many forms of privilege, but this privilege is often overlooked.

That radical feminists’ attempts to deny transgender people our expression of gender – no matter how based in stereotype such expressions may appear to be – operates from a form of essentialism that contradicts their analysis and diminishes our joint efforts.

That in order to change the system of male dominance we must both allow and honor individual expressions of gender (even when, as with myself, that expression of gender is borne of male privilege) and engage in collective social activism.

That the increasing animosity and hostility between the radical feminist movement and the transgender movement is destructive to our mutual goal of the liberation of women from male dominance.

That Julian Vigo is right to observe that “[i]f gender is inherently detrimental as the radical feminists maintain and if trans identification occurs in part because gender is rigidly interpreted and represented through normative modalities of behaving, then there will be unceasing dissonance between these two groups.” [2]

Nevertheless, I do not think that the two groups have to be at war with one another. We need not trade verbal barbs and comments that denigrate the other. And, most of all, we need not inflict violence upon each other.

I wish we could find a way to lift up one another. I think that the system of gender has hurt us all for so long. I do not want the voices of radical feminists silenced. I just wish they would focus on the very real threats to women (and, in this, I agree that a physical assault is of course a real threat!) and not turn their anger at this hateful system against trans persons. On the flip side of that coin, I wish my brothers and sisters in the transgender community could either find a way to lift up the voices of radical feminists in areas where we so obviously agree, or at a minimum, ignore the arguments and words with which we may disagree.

Let us commit to working, together, for common values like the true liberation of women, the advancement of women in this society and around the world. The real problem here isn’t whether or not trans-women get to claim womanhood. It’s about the number of women on the bench, in Congress, on boards of directors, in the CEO chair of Fortune 500 companies, and being paid less than men. It’s about the ongoing problem of a rape culture and the struggle it took to pass the Violence Against Women Act and the subsequent striking down of its key civil remedy provision. It’s about the mass murder and mutilation of women around the world. Please, let’s put our priorities in the right place.

And my response to it.

I'm tired of people trying to ignore the fact that transwomen didn't start the war between radfems and trans women. Radfems did in the 1970s. It is radfems who went after trans women, viciously outed them in GL and feminist circles, wrote papers to the federal government in the early 80's that led to medical exclusions on trans medical care in insurance polices and Medicare and Medicaid and keep instigating and pushing the poisonous rhetoric that has led to far too many non-white transwomen dying.. And now you're trying to expand that poisonous anti-trans radfem BS internationally

You're not victims and it's laughable to me as a trans person of color a bunch of predominately white women are trying to claim they are being 'attacked, silenced and oppressed'; when this a natural reaction to what has been done to transpeople by predominately white radfems gleefully exercising their white female cis privilege since the 70's.

And yes radfems, you are the oppressors. Passive-aggressive oppressors with four decades of blood on your hands. I don't see radfems getting shot at, stabbed, involved in videotaped beatdowns or brutally killed year after depressing year or facing crushing unemployment or underemployment because of radfems embedded in GL organizations fighting the inclusion of gender identity in human rights legislation.

Oppressed people get tired of being fracked with and eventually will strike back against their oppressors. That's a historical fact. If you don't like being called 'oppressors', 'radphlegms', 'white radfem womym gone wild', et cetera, then stop the nekulturny four decade old oppressive behavior that pisses trans women off or do you part to call out and stop the people in your ranks who are gleefully engaged in it.

And when I see radfems doing 40 years of good to HELP the trans community in its just human rights struggle, maybe I'll change my opinion about radical feminism and feminism in general.   

TERF"s RadFem Hatefest Booted From Another Venue

Ever wondered what would happen if you tried to hold an international trans hate conference and nobody wanted to host it?  

Ask the Trans Exterminationalist Radical Feminazis Feminists how that feels after they got rebuffed for the second consecutive year   

Our least favorite trans oppressors had planned on using the London Irish Centre to host their RadFem 2013 hate event.   The 2012 edition got cancelled from Conway Hall last year (snicker, snicker).

The 2013 event is on track to suffer the same ignominious fate because they got derailed by their own hate scribblings and the potential venue, The London Irish Centre did their due diligence and researched the movement on their own after complaints from our transpeeps. 

And what the Center saw of the TERF"s they didn't like.

Quite a few of the complaints were from the transgender community and then a men’s group cam along the other day a hand out leaflets about why the event shouldn’t be held here.
We did some research into RadFem and discovered certain language was used and some statements were made about transgender people that would go against our equalities and diversity policy.

FYI TERF's, in Britain there's a law on the books called the 2010 Equality Act of which transpeeps are a protected class.  

Translation: You can't discriminate or hate on us across The Pond like you can get away with over in parts of the United States without repercussions.  Good luck finding a venue that's willing to violate the Equality Act..

Of course, the TERF's are crying White Women's Tears about being 'oppressed', but naw, you're just mad because you can't show your azzes, parade Sheila Jeffreys transphobic behind on stage, are still searching for a conference venue across The Pond and won't be able to express your trans hate to a disco beat.for the second straight year.   

Job 4:8 - Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.

And you TERF's have been plowing iniquity and sowing wickedness for over four decades, and it's past time you reaped a bumper crop harvest of what you planted back in the 70's and 80's.

Trans Exterminationalists In Their Own Words

One of the things that mystifies me is why The Southern Poverty Law Center hasn't declared Trans Exterminationalist Radical Feminism as a hate group.   Could it be because the rumor may be true that a TERF works for SPLC and squashes the subject every time it comes up in SPLC circles? 

So if you think I being harsh when I call this group of rad fems Whyte Womyn Gone Wyld, trans oppressors or wonder why I have zero tolerance for their hate speech, I've learned from my people's history that you can't ignore vanillacentric privileged rabid haters that loudly and repeatedly call for your extermination from the planet.   You take them at their word they're serious

The TERF's have to be confronted, called out, and their crap exposed at every opportunity.  They started the War on Transwomen back in the 70's, and we have no choice but to fight them tooth and nail and end it with victory on our terms. 

And to borrow a line from former Sen. Trent Lott (R-MS), “I’m a firm believer in feeding people their own words back to them, when it’s appropriate.”

In other words, transsexuals are paying an extreme tribute to the power of sex roles. In order to set their real human personalities free, they surgically mutilate their own bodies...

Here's the verbal grenade she launched at Renee Richards in 1977.

She writes that, while she supports the right of individuals to identify as they choose, she claims that, in many cases, transsexuals "surgically mutilate their own bodies" in order to conform to a gender role that is inexorably tied to physical body parts. She concludes that "feminists are right to feel uncomfortable about the need for and uses of transsexualism."

Julie Bindel, who in a delicious piece of irony is now being hated on by the TERF's she was in lock step with.

"Those who ‘transition' seem to become stereotypical in their appearance — f**k-me shoes and birds' nest hair for the boys; beards, muscles and tattoos for the girls. Think about a world inhabited just by transsexuals. It would look like the set of Grease."

Gender dysphoria (GD) was invented in the 1950s by reactionary male psychiatrists in an era when men were men and women were doormats. It is a term used to describe someone who feels strongly that they should belong to the opposite sex and that they were born in the wrong body. GD has no proven genetic or physiological basis.

The transsexual is identified as such solely on his/her own script, which can be as learned as any sex-typed behavior and as editorialized as autobiographies usually are. The lack of insight that MTF transsexuals usually show about the extent of their acceptance as females should be an indication that their behavior is less rational than it seems. When he forces his way into the few private spaces women may enjoy and shouts down their objections, and bombards the women who will not accept him with threats and hate mail, he does as rapists have always done."

Whyte Womyn Gone Wyld Hatin' On #Girlslikeus Twitter Tag

The #Girlslikeus Twitter hashtag created by Janet Mock celebrated its one year anniversary yesterday and as usual, any time we create something positive for our trans feminine community, the Whyte Women Gone Wyld as they have for the last 40 years have disco danced over to dip nasty cups of vanillacentric hate in our Kool-Aid.

For whatever reason, they're mad because nobody wants to see them on TV, interview them on the radio or they can't get vacation time to go to MichFest, the TERF's (trans exclusionary exterminationalist radical feminists) are hustling over to their computers, dipping into their white supremacist heritage and posting nasty messages on the #girlslikeus Twitter hashtag aimed at Janet Mock. 

They are going to their tired tactics of attempting to provoke a trans community response they'll trumpet on their (should have been declared by the Southern Poverty Law Center as hate sites) low hit count hive mind websites as 'proof' they are the 'innocent victims' being attacked.

Yeah, you're 'innocent victims' all right. Y'all been watching too much Fox Noise.  It has also not escaped my attention how you're resorting to aiming racist comments at Janet as well, a woman who has far more dignity and class in her pinky fingers than the whole rotten rabble of you.  

Hey TERF's don't start none, won't be none. You crying white women's tears because I'm publicly calling your asses out (ho hum, again) about your nekulturny behavior won't work in this situation because y'all started it. 

And y'all know how much I gleefully enjoy nuking trolls, especially passive-aggressive racist ones spouting trans exterminationalist claptrap. 

Duck and cover, fools.    

It's also hilarious to me that despite all your hatred, misgendering slanderous speech, quasi-scientific papers designed to deny us human rights, demonizing us, lying to politicians with the goal of cutting us out of human rights legislation and the other foul crap you've done over the last 40 years in the name of feminism, and still we trans women rise as the arc of the moral universe continues to bend toward justice for trans women everywhere.

And what's even more hilarious to me is that even your own fellow haters like Julie Bindel are calling y'all 'rabid maniacs' and distancing themselves from you.

So what we need our trans allies and transpeople around the world to do is take a moment out of your day to piss off a TERF and tweet something positive on the #girlslikeus Twitter hashtag in support of trans women. 

Dyssonance Debunks More Bug Lies

Y'all know how much I love Dyssonance, especially when she has fun debunking and effortlessly destroying ignorance from the rad phlegm ranks.

Definitely had to signal boost this latest post of her taking down the odious as she calls her Cockroach (and the rest of us as the whyte radfem trans oppressor from Maryland) we all know and loathe

So once again rad fems who claim you don't agree with what the TERF's (trans exclusionary radical feminists) spew on their hate sites, when are y'all going to get off your behinds and do your part to call them out? 

Better yet, if you're serious that they don't belong in your feminist ranks, how about working to get them declared by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a hate group?  

Here's a taste of Toni's latest brilliance.

Now, I’m going to point this out to you right off the start: She says two things in her 4th paragraph that pretty much prove she is a lying sack of shit in her fifth one and since she builds her arguments on the premise there, she basically is using the model she’s grown accustomed to using that makes it so easy for me to shit all over her.

She says, pointedly, that she doesn’t know if the study is well done or not. She also says she isn’t a statistician.

Well, I am, and looking at the study (studies, actually, if she’d bothered to really do any sort of actual research into the powerpoint) is something that strikes me as a minimum requirement if you are going to talk about it. So we already know that I have a slightly higher standard for such things than she does, but her goal is demonzation and repeating and reinforcing stigma because of her irrational and aversive bigotry, so of course she is going to reduce her standards.

Besides, she’s a lawyer, that’s what they do, especially while throwing people out of their homes.

Since she doesn’t know if the study is done particularly well, how can she determine that the methodology wasn’t done well? For the study to be done particularly well the methodology needs to be so. That’s pretty much the basics, and the study in question has held up to scrutiny from people far more suited to picking it apart than she has the capability of doing.

Look Who's Crying White Women's Tears Now

It's been a rough two weeks for radical feminism 

First they start some crap in Britain, and when people justifiably called Suzanne Moore's butt out on it they predictably rush to her defense, start spewing even more transphobic sewage and then start crying white women's tears when the negative reaction rolls in.

Now the scene has shifted to our side of the Pond.  

Gallus Mag who heads the waste of transphobic bandwith known as Gender Tender attacked Janet Mock by posting a copyrighted picture of her and plastering an insultingly misgendering caption on it.

Janet found out about it and asked for it to be removed.  They did, but doubled down on the disrespect.  They replaced it with a screengrab of her from an MSNBC appearance, kept the caption and stuck her old name on it.

Little did they know that violation of terms of service complaints had been filed with WordPress by other parties over the longtime virulent transphobic hate speech posted there.   When GallusMag tweeted that she couldn't access her hatemongering blog and claimed her computer hard drive had been wiped out, the conspiracy theories in Whyte Radfem Womyn Land started going into overdrive and the crying white women's tears commenced.

Gallus Mag complained to a certain Maryland based trans oppressor and accused Janet of trying to get her hate site shut down.   Predictably that trans oppressor poured more gasoline on the fire by compiling one her usual facts free blog posts that I'm not linking to, tweeting it, and then Roseanne Barr's transphobic behind jumps into the fray shouting 'censorship'.

Only reason this didn't blow up because Janet had more class than the cadre of vanillacentric cisprivileged radfems starting this ish and asked her followers not to respond to the obvious transphobic provocation.

But the bottom line in this story is they not only will stoop to any level to attack transwomen, it's past time that the Southern Poverty Law Center declare trans exclusionary radical feminists as a hate group.
 

When Brazilian Trans Women Are Being Murdered, That IS An Insulting Comment

"We are angry with ourselves for not being happier, not being loved properly and not having the ideal body shape – that of a Brazilian transsexual."    Suzanne Moore


That was the line that started the whole international kerfluffle.   While Moore's piece was originally about sexism and the things that make pwomen angry, what made transwomen angry was the 'Brazilian transsexuals' line.  

Then her transphobic partners in crime Bindel and Burchill in their zeal to defend her poured more gasoline on the raging fire with their transphobic insults, with Burchill's bordering in hate speech territory.

There are far too many cis people saying that the trans community shouldn't have been offended by Moore's line.  Well, first of all it is not up to you cis people to decide for a marginalized group like trans people what is and isn't offensive to them.

Yes, Brazilian transsexuals going back to Roberta Close are some of the most beautiful women on the planet.  Lea T, Carol Marra and Felipa Tavares are continuing to walk in Roberta's pumps and rock fashion runways around the planet along with other trans models..  

But the reason that comment was considered insulting by many of us in the international trans community was for a dynamic we painfully know is not getting much mainstream news coverage.

When the memorial names lists were read during the 2012 TDOR events around the world, 100 of the names that were read of our transsisters who lost their lives due to anti-trans violence were from Brazil.   Judging by the early 2013 news blurbs I read concerning trans murders tracked by various trans bloggers around the world, seems like the trans haters down in Brazil are trying to exceed last year's total.

Cecilia Marahouse, the Brazilian trans woman I have pictured in this post was shot multiple times in Fortaleza, Brazil back on January 11 while these British feminists were ranting and disrespecting trans people justifiably upset about their stank comments.

It is over 40 years of anti-trans hate screeds that have created and stoked the climate of transphobic hate aimed at transwomen.   That hate greases the skids for these near genocidal level of murders.aimed at our trans sisters, and you cisprivileged whyte womyn don't care 

Thank God trans people around the world and our allies do.

So yes, when you make an out of context reference to Brazilian transwomen, it IS insulting.   And don't get an attitude or start crying white women's tears when transpeople around the world call you out on it.

Transwomen Are Fighting A Two-Front 'War On Women''

Much attention has been focused on the 'War on Women', the anti-woman political policies the conservative movement and Republican politicians have been pushing for years and implementing once they gain political control of state legislatures.

And yes, being that we are now estrogen based lifeforms, they affect trans women as well..

Girls like us have been fighting a two front war. Since the 1970's we've had to deal with the War on Transwomen whose reprehensible foot soldiers are radical feminists in addition to the one aimed at us because we get the same negative crap that is aimed at anyone inhabiting Planet Earth in a feminine body.

And if you're a non-white transwoman, you've got even more complications in this two front War on Women in terms of dealing with 'unwoman' shade and racism in addition to the transphobic bigotry and near genocidal levels of violence aimed at us.  We also have to cope with our community's internal struggle against the unholy trinity of shame, fear and guilt and fight against erasure from the predominately vanillacentric trans historical and societal narrative.  

The hatred of transwomen has been stirred up by the 40 years of radfem hate speech and the new kids on the hate transwomen block in the Catholic Church and the conservafool movement.  It's also seized on by newspaper and gossip blogs seeking to increase their hit counts.  We also have television, cable networks, and tabloid talk shows using our images during sweeps week..  

We transwomen are tired of watching our backs and having to worry about being fragged by people too arrogant and hate-filled to see that we are their allies in this struggle against patriarchy.   They are far too  eager to flex their white female privilege and oppress somebody.

Trans women are just as concerned about Planned Parenthood clinics being under attack because some of our people get health care either there or through the public heath system.

Trans women, like every person walking planet Earth in a feminine body face sexual assault and violence.  Girls like us are concerned about women's health issues because we too have to deal with the reality that we can get breast cancer in addition to the trans medical issues that aren't even covered right now by many insurance plans.  We also have concerns about how the 2014 Obamacare implementation is going to affect girls like us. 

We are concerned about education, marriage and a wide range of policy issues beyond just the trans human rights specific ones.  We trans women currently have zero elected officials in Congress and state legislatures.  Nationally we have one state judge in California and one municipal judge in Houston.   The last trans woman elected to a state legislature was for one term in 1992.  Electing more women to political office cis and trans is a major goal.. .

Transwomen are beyond sick and tired of having our femininity and humanity attacked by people who are alleged to be our allies in the human rights struggle.  Trans rights are an international human rights issue, and anyone who thinks that we shouldn't have the same rights they do is making their own human rights less secure.   Despite that, we will continue to do our intersectional best to be loyal standup allies for and on women's issues because frankly, they're our issues too. 

So how do we win the War on Transwomen?  By being out, proud and visible.  By standing up for our humanity and femininity and defending it tooth and nail    By fighting for our trans human rights.  By forcefully debunking lies and disinformation about us as we simultaneously get positive stories about our trans lives in the media.   We also need to create a world in which anti-trans bigotry and discrimination cannot stand. 

We didn't start the War on Transwomen. It is one that we reluctantly have to fight and must decisively win.
