The Commission on Presidential Debates has already selected their moderators for the upcoming series of 2016 presidential and vice presidential debates that will start September 26 at Hofstra University.
But what has myself and a lot of people angry is FOX Noise's Chris Wallace, who was tapped to moderate the third debate in Las Vegas. He has made the incredibly problematic statement that 'it's not my role as a presidential debate moderator to be a 'truth squad'..
Naw homey, that IS your fundamental role as a journalist. The American people are depending on you to do just that and call out the lies during this final scheduled debate by any candidate.
If you're unwilling to do your job in an election cycle in which the composition of the Supreme Court and the direction of our country is at stake, then the CPD needs to replace Wallace with someone who will.
Many people (myself included) are disturbed by Wallace's comment, and believe that comment disqualifies him to be a moderator for the third debate on October 19. As for who should replace him, MSNBC's Joy Reid has already demonstrated that she has no problem calling out lying surrogates and pundits, and is the woman for the job of moderating this last debate and calling out the lies..
A Change.org petition has been launched that has garnered over 10,000 signatures in just four days. asking for Reid to be added either as the co-debate moderator or sole moderator, since Wallace has already indicated he is not going to fact check the candidates.

Here's hoping the CPD acts on that suggestion and gets a real journalist to do that critical final debate at UNLV.
According to a survey from the Williams Institute, trans people are far more likely to serve in the military than our non-trans counterparts, and there are an estimated 15,500 transgender people who have answered that call currently serving in our armed forces..
They are fighting not only to defend our country, but for your specious right to hate them.
There are also up to 134, 300 trans military veterans like Carla, and they are required by many employers and state agencies to submit their DD-214 form. the Certificate of Release From Active Duty, when applying for work or social benefits.
If you have served honorably, you should have a DD-214 that is free of derogatory statements. But on Section 28 of Carla's, it contains the statement because she transitioned, "Conditions That Interfere With Military Service - Not Disability -Mental Disorders".
You can probably understand how problematic that kind of derogatory statement can be on your DD-214 if you're applying for a job, or simply being annoyed by it being on a document as important as the DD-214 is in pursuit of a quality post-military life.
So please take a moment to help Carla and other trans veterans in this situation by signing this White House You.gov petition. I've already done so, and it needs to get to 100,000 signatures by May 3 in order to ensure a White House response to the request of this petition.
It's past time that the Department of Defense stop demonizing trans veterans and end the practice of putting derogatory information on the DD-214 discharge forms of trans military veterans who have honorably served our country.
When the Fran Watson created petition asking for the federal government to investigate the causes of the violence leading to the murders of tans women of color went up on August 10, it was with hopeful optimism after it was posted and I signed it that we would hit that 100K signature target in a very short time.
I saw this as an easy way to show support for the trans communities of color in the wake of us having a murderous month of July, and I remembered how fast the Leelah Alcorn one hit its target in mere days..
We are now six days from the September 10 deadline to get those signatures, and we're not even over 10,000 signatures yet,
Guess not all trans lives matter as much.

When a White House petition posted on January 3 in honor of the departed Leelah Alcorn called for the passage of Leelah's Law to ban all conversion therapy aimed at TBLG Americans, it easily garnered its over 100,000 signatures, and got a WH response from Valerie Jarrett
Now we have a Fran Watson created White House petition posted on August 10 calling for the federal government to investigate the anti-trans violence that leads to the unacceptable slaughter of trans women of color.
And how close are we to hitting that 100,000 signature threshold that we need to reach by September 10? As of this writing, it has only 4735 signatures, well short of the number needed.
Ii this signature rate doesn't ramp up soon, we are probably NOT going to hit that 100,000 signature target required by September 10 to get an official White House response on this .
And that's irritating and depressing to the trans communities of color reeling from the off the charts murders and anti-trans rhetoric being aimed at us. I have no doubts if the racial composition of the trans murder victims was switched, and it was overwhelmingly white trans women under 30 being eviscerated, this would be 'State of Emergency' news and we would have already hit that signature target.
But since its predominately Black and Latina trans women, note it's now August 25 and we haven't even gotten to 50,000 signatures, much less 10,000. This disappointing response is sending us in Trans POC World and our allies the unmistakable impression that All Trans Lives Don't Matter, and that the lives of the 17 murdered trans women of color we've lost in 2015 don't matter as much as one non-POC teen that committed suicide.
The differing signature rates between the WH Leelah's Law petition and the current one aimed at trying to get action on a trans issue that overwhelmingly affects trans women of color is striking and a problematic look.
So come on trans community and allies. How about you showing as much love for murdered non-white trans women as you did for Leelah Alcorn earlier this year? Black Lives Matter, how about you encouraging people to sign this WH petition? Where you at NAACP? Congressional Black Caucus?
Sign it and share it...Talk this petition up and also get people to understand why this is important to get 100K signatures for it so we can hit and exceed the signature target before that September 10 deadline.
As many of you TransGriot readers know, I have been tracking since the inception of my blog nearly a decade ago the murders of trans women of color and whether or not they have received justice in their cases.
I have been alarmed by the fact that we have already matched the number of trans women killed in the US in all of 2014 (12) in just 8 months, and this year still has 4 months left to go. I am also particularly concerned and incensed about the fact that the majority of trans women that have been murdered are not only trans women of color, but under age 30.
I am pleased to not only affix my signature to this (Signature #23), but also signal boost this We The People petition that started today. It seeks to get 100,000 people to sign on to this effort to get the federal government to investigate this unacceptable slaughter of trans women of color, of which far too many of them have been under 30 years of age.
We have to get the 100,000 signatures by September 10 to get a formal response from the White House on the requested action stated in the petition.

As we recently discovered when the wingers freaked out over the White House being lit in the rainbow flag colors on June 26 to celebrate the SCOTUS marriage equality ruling, the White House is lit up for special occasions.
It is lit in pink for breast cancer awareness and the fountains are dyed green for St Patrick's Day.

Let's do this and honor our fallen trans folks with something extra special during this year's TDOR commemorations by getting the Obama Administration to light up the White House in the trans flag colors.
Following the lead of Oakland's Mills College, Mount Holyoke College became the first Seven Sisters one to change their admissions policies to openly welcome transfeminine and gender variant applicants to their campus.
I had the pleasure of speaking on Bryn Mawr's campus in 2009 and urged them at that time to start working toward coming up with trans inclusive policies.
If some Bryn Mawr students and alums get their wish, Bryn Mawr will be the next Seven Sisters college to include trans students on their campus. They have penned an open letter and started a Change.org petition that as of this writing has amassed 1275 signatures that they hope will expeditiously jump start the process.
From the open letter accompanying the petition:
Bryn Mawr’s current approach to handling trans student applicants is
ineffective and insufficient. As long as Bryn Mawr continues to exclude
trans and nonbinary students, it continues to neglect its essential
educational mission. Bryn Mawr has a long history as an institution that
offers educational opportunities to students who face discrimination
because of their gender. The time has come to expand Bryn Mawr's safe,
supportive community to fully include trans students and other gender
minorities. This fall, Bryn Mawr faces a great choice: return to our
historical mission of helping students break through the gender-based
limits imposed on their education, or stand still and watch as others
make change.
The open letter also requested the following six things occur at Bryn Mawr:
1. Bryn Mawr to commit to adopting a trans-inclusive admissions
policy by October 15th, 2014--one month before the Early Decision I
application deadline for transfers and the class of 2019;
2. Gender inclusive restroom signage to be implemented no later than
January 20, 2015, which is the first day of second semester classes;
3. A revision to the College's statement of nondiscrimination to
include gender, gender identity, and gender presentation as protected
classes;
4. Bryn Mawr to follow the students’ example and use gender-inclusive
language in all College documents and signage, including but not
limited to: the College website; marketing, recruitment, fundraising
materials, and Alumnae Association materials;
5. The development and implementation of accessible, simple, and
thorough procedures for students to change their preferred names and
pronouns on various platforms used by the College, including but not
limited to: Moodle, PeopleSoft, transcripts, diplomas, medical records,
and other university records and documents;
6. A demonstrated dedication to further providing and supporting
continuing education and training for the entire campus, focusing on the
involvement of faculty and staff, and ensuring that the voices of
current students and trans women are prioritized.

It will be interesting to watch and see if Bryn Mawr's administration takes this seriously and it becomes the next Seven Sisters institution to welcome trans and gender variant students to its lovely suburban Philadelphia area campus, or another Seven Sisters campus beats it to that distinction.
In either case, the trans community and our allies will be watching and waiting along with the parents of trans feminine kids rapidly approaching college age.
While getting dressed to head downtown to the Communications Workers of America Union Hall where the Forward Times HERO town hall was going to be held, the announcement I'd been looking for most of the day concerning Mayor Parker's press conference dropped.
The press conference was scheduled for 5 PM CDT, just in time to be the lead story for all the local news stations And it was wonderful news for Team HERO.
City Attorney Dave Feldman announced there are only 15,249 possible valid signatures on the petition and that the city will not certify the petition.
Translation: Per the review by the City Secretary and City Attorney, the HERO haters failed to get the required number of signatures (17,269) to place it on the ballot for recall in the fall.
"With respect to the referendum petition filed to repeal the 'HERO' ordinance, there are simply too many documents with irregularities and problems to overlook," Feldman said. "The petition is simply invalid. There is no other conclusion."
Gee, was a long way from the 30,000 signatures Max Miller and his hate preachers claimed they had on July 3, huh? Frankly, they probably had enough signatures to force a referendum, but because of their arrogance and the shoddy way they went about their recall petition 'bidness', they failed.
And thank God (or whatever higher power you worship) they did
Major props to the 100 volunteers who took time out of their busy lives to go over those petitions and find the invalid signatures. Once again Houston LGBT community and allies, y'all rose to the occasion to stand up for human rights against our oppressors and show the nation and the world that Houston does not discriminate.

As you are well aware of TransGriot readers, I'm a proud native Houstonian who has been more than fed up about the lack of a comprehensive non-discrimination ordinance in my beloved hometown.
In the wake of San Antonio passing theirs on a lopsided 8-3 vote, I have been vocal about wanting the same nice human rights thing on my end of I-10.
Ever since Mayor Parker announced during her January inaugural address that it was time to push for that ordinance, I have not only spoken to City Council (twice and counting) about it, I wanted to make sure that when that push started, the trans community and the Houston trans community of color had a seat at the table, we ensured transpeople were covered in it and it was a comprehensive ordinance unlike the 1984 one that was sexual orientation only and went down to crushing electoral repeal in 1985.
And as a proud Houstonian, I'm tired of H-town being the largest Top 5 city in the United States and the largest city in Texas without one. And I will not accept trans civil rights crumbs just to say we have one, either.
It's past time that Houston added gender identity and sexual orientation to the non-discrimination ordinance and ensures every Houstonian has equal access to employment, housing, and public accommodations inside
the 628 square miles of Texas we call home.
Texans Together is collecting signatures (and yes, I've already signed it) for a petition that would be one of the steps toward making this non discrimination ordinance a reality in my hometown.
I posted about the jacked up situation trans teen Jewlyes Gutierrez finds herself in in terms of being charged with one count of battery by the Contra Costa county assistant DA Dan Cabral for defending herself against three girls who were bullying her.
He's claiming it's 'out of his hands', but we'll see about that. Just as they charged Jewlyes, they can drop them as well.
This petition to get them to drop the charges has over 23,000 signatures at this writing, so let's see if we can get more. International trans peeps, you are welcome to sign his one as well.
Remember last month when I posted about the Change.org petition to get the TERF flavored Gender Identity Watch declared by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a hate site? It hit its modest inital goal of 1000 signatures within hours.
The petition is now up to 6,024 signatures at the time I created this post, so let's have some fun this holiday season squashing trans hate for the holidays and seeing if we can get that to 10,000 signatures before Christmas Day. And yes, international trans peeps, you too can join in on the fun!
One of the reasons that trans people have faced so much negativity in society is because the TERF's (trans exterminationalist radical feminists have been allowed until recently to spew their lies and disinformation unchecked.

The vote is scheduled to take place September 5, and it would be nice if CAUSA could hand this peition in with 5000 (or more) signatures as part of this process. They are so close to victory but need some help getting over the civil rights goalline.
The transphobic TERF's can attempt to deny the word doesn't exist, but the Oxford English Dictionary will say otherwise.
'Transphobic' ("hostile towards transsexual or transgender people") was one of 1200 words officially added to the 2013 edition of one of the most renowned dictionaries in the world.that was released last week.
It caps a successful Change.org petition campaign which sought to have the word added to the Microsoft Office and Oxford English dictionaries that was signed by over 9000 people.
It was added to the Microsoft Office dictionary when their latest update was released last month, and now the most respected and authoritative dictionary in the world has followed suit.
The petition was created with the goal of getting St Pius High School to allow Damian to walk in his rapidly approaching May 22 graduation in the black cap and gown for male students.

She's the first trans on-air broadcast journalist with a major
network and since 2009 has been the host of the KBDI-TV shows In Focus with Eden Lane, Colorado’s popular local arts
and culture news magazine, and OUTSpoken, a prime time special series
devoted to the LGBT community that has been on the air for 20 years.
She was also a reporter covering the historic 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver for PBS.
There is a campaign complete with a change.org petition that seeks to have ABC's popular daytime gabfest The View invite Eden Lane on the show. It's a good time to do so seeing that Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck are leaving soon.
ABC, why not give Eden a shot and help make a little broadcast history in the process as well?

Actually, she's more than qualified for it, and I hope it happens for her. She not only deserves it, I'm also looking at the big picture long range implications of Eden sitting at that table with Whoopi, Barbara and Sherri.
It not only gives us another chance to make a positive impression on Mr and Ms. Middle America, it also opens doors once Eden knocks that appearance out of the park. (as I have every confidence in her she would) It gives other trans women a chance to be considered as guest hosts for The View and other television shows similar to it as well.
For a long time the topic of being transgender was something seen as
taboo but as it gains more needed traction many medical entities are
starting to see that in fact being transgender is NOT a mental illness
but a medical condition no different then FAI, heart diseases, or more
commonly asthma. But as it has been seen time and time again companies
blatantly put discriminatory exclusions to care within 75% of their
policies made available to the general public. Making obtaining proper
healthcare such as even regular physicians visits nearly impossible for
many all because the care is deemed as transition related and
immediately kicked back as denied!
That's from a Change.org petition created by A. Rob, who is frustrated like many transpeople are about the automatic exclusions for trans medical care written into the health care policies that many US transpeople have to deal with.
It is the odious legacy of radical feminist trans oppressor Janice Raymond, whose 1980 Social and Ethical Aspects of Transsexual Surgery paper to the US government resulted in the stripping of state and federal aid to indigent trans people and the insurance companies beginning to add transsexual medical exclusions in their policies with deleterious results to our lives and our health.
WPATH and the American Medical Association are just two of the professional organizations that reject the Raymondite thinking and have been pushing the insurance companies to drop those anti-trans coverages based on Raymond's transphobic letter and the discrimination it creates.

The Tea Party movement has been marked by racially inflammatory and violent outbursts since its inception a year ago. GOP leaders are trying to pass off this weekend's assaults on Congressmen Lewis, Cleaver, Clyburn and Frank as isolated incidents. But when so-called "isolated incidents" crop up again and again, a pattern starts to emerge. The examples are numerous.
At rallies held to protest tax day last year, Tea Partiers carried signs that announced "Obama's Plan: White Slavery," "The American Taxpayers are the Jews for Obama's Oven," and "Guns Tomorrow!"[4] The Republican National Committee had endorsed the rallies, and RNC Chairman Michael Steele encouraged Tea Partiers to send a "virtual tea bag" to President Obama and Democratic Congressional leadership.[5] After reports of the fear-mongering signs surfaced, Steele did nothing to distance his party from the lunatic fringe. He has even gone so far as to say that if he didn't have his current position, he'd be "out there with the tea partiers."[6]
The Tea Party's venomous rhetoric picked up steam over the summer, when angry mobs flooded town hall meetings legislators had organized as sites for rational, civil debate on health care reform. After one meeting in Atlanta, a swastika was painted on the office of Congressman David Scott (D-GA), who had also received a flier addressed to "nigga David Scott."[7] Some protesters showed up at town hall meetings carrying guns, including at least one man who was armed at an event where the President was speaking.[8] Again, Republicans responded to these tactics with silence, doing nothing to denounce them.
Our country deserves better than this. No matter what party one supports, we should all take strong action to support civil, honest, and respectful public debate.
