Malala's Father Speaks

ZIAUDDIN YOUSAFZAI MALALAIt's Father's Day, and this is an interesting TED talk given by  Ziauddin Yousafzai, the father of international human rights activist Malala Yousafzai.

In it the Pakistani educator tells a simple truth that many men don't want to hear.  Women and men deserve equal opportunities for education, autonomy,  personhood and an independent life.

When asked how he raised a strong daughter like Malala, he simply stated, "Because I didn't clip her wings"

Happy Father's Day.   And if yo are raising daughters, you may wish to click on this link and think about what Ziauddin Yousafzai has to say in this TED talk entitled, My Daughter, Malala.

Happy Father's Day 2011

We've made it to another Father's Day, in which we take time to recognize the fathers and father figures in people's lives.    Take a bow, dads!

Big shout out to my brother, who is enjoying his first Father's Day as a new dad.

As President Obama recently said,  We need fathers to step up, to realize that their job does not end at conception..  That what makes you a man is not the ability to have a child but the courage to raise one,”

Thanks to 'errbody' that has the courage to do so

In addition to it being the first day of summer, Happy Father's Day to all my loyal TransGriot readers who are dads out there or a father figure in someone's life.

Probably means even more to transman Thomas Beattie and his wife and family, who now are blessed with two healthy kids.

May Daddy's Day be a special one.
