Popeye's Chicken Sandwich Returns November 3

Popeye's introduced a new chicken sandwich back on August 12,  and people stood in line for it at its restaurants around the US.  Peeps bought it in such numbers that the chain sold out of them before the end of the month and created a social media firestorm in the process.. 

I was upset that I didn't get to try one before they sold out in large part because the lines were too long at the Popeye's locations near me.

I join America in celebrating the news that the Popeye's chicken sandwich is coming back on November 3 as a permanent addition to the Popeye's menu.

That's going to make Bigot Fil A big mad, since they are hostile to TBLGQ rights and with their profits gleefully fund many of those TBLGQ hate organizations. 

Those of us on the liberal progressive side of the political spectrum are also beyond tired of  FOX Noise and conservafool politicians trolling us with bigot chicken sandwiches and Chick Fil A food. 

Popeye's is seen by us as a viable and tasty TBLGQ bigotry free alternative to Chick Fil A's problematic product.   Even better, the Popeye's sandwich will be available on Sundays.

That point was made in the video Popeye's released heralding the return of its chicken sandwich.

So am I and everyone else who didn't get a chance to sample it the first time around.

Ready For 'Riverdale' Season 2

On one of my self care nights I decided to turn off MSNBC and find something to watch on Netflix. 

I'm a huge Archie comics fan as many of you longtime TransGriot readers are aware of, and since Season 1 of Riverdale the show had just been uploaded, decided to check it out.

Kind of grabs your attention when you see Archie making out with a way younger Miss Geraldine Grundy and it starts off with a murder mystery.

Needless to say I wasn't disappointed.  It was better than I imagined it would be, and I stayed up until 4 AM to binge watch the entire thirteen episode first season..

What got my attention was seeing some of the character changes that have been made from the traditional Archie Comics canon.  Veronica and her wealthy Lodge family are now Latinx, with Veronica being played by Camila Mendes and her mom Hermione by Marisol Nichols.

The Coopers are in the Riverdale house, with mom Alice played by Madchen Amick, Betty by Lill Rinehart, big sis Polly and her dad

The Josie and the Pussycats band are all African American, with Veronica joining them later/  Their lead singer Josie McCoy is being played by Ashleigh Murray.  Her mother Serina McCoy is Riverdale's first African American mayor, played by Robin Givens.

Archie's dad Fred is now played by Luke Perry, and his mother by Molly Ringwald.  Cole Sprouse is all grown up and playing the burger loving reclusive Forsythe P. Jones III, AKA Jughead. 

This Riverdale is sexy, dark, well written and the Who Killed Jason Blossom murder mystery and its twists and turns kept me planted on the couch until I'd watched and rewatched it to catch what I'd missed.

I'll probably be tuned into Netflix one more time to watch Season 1 again before the new episodes kick off.

Season 2 of Riverdale starts October 11 on the CW and it picks up where it left off with Fred Andrews fighting or his life after being shot during a robbery at Pop's.  Mark Consuelos joins the cast  in Season 2 as Veronica's father Hiram Lodge, who spent the entire first season in jail but was still big balling, shot calling and making things happen while in prison. 

We'll find out just what Hiram jumped off from prison and how much he adjusts to free world life in season 2.   There are also rumors that Sabrina Spellman will make some appearances in Season 2, but we'll see.



We'll also find out what's going on with our fave ginger mean girl Cheryl Blossom and how much the events of season one affected her.

What events you ask?  Oh, her dad murdering her twin brother, losing the captaincy of the River Vixens to Veronica, torching Thorn Hill and nearly drowning in a suicide attempt.

If I were Polly, I would want Aunt Cheryl anywhere near my soon to be born child.

Will Jughead and Betty's relationship survive the upcoming drama between to north and south sides of Riverdale?   What' will transpire in Archie and Veronica's in season two?   .

And even better, when Season 2 kicks off, we'll get 22 episodes to watch instead of just the mere 13 we got to see during Season 1   

After the episodes are broadcast on the CW on Wednesday nights, you'll be able to watch what you missed on Netflix that Friday

And I'm definitely looking forward to it.

Archie #636 Gender Swap Story

Been talking about 'The Great Switcheroo' story in various posts for the last few years, and now you'll get to eyeball the Archie #636 issue in which after hearing an age old argument in Pop's Choklit Shoppe about whether women or men have it easier in life, Sabrina's mischievous cat Salem casts a spell that flips the gender script in Riverdale.

Everyone in town except Sabrina wakes up to a flipped gender roles as Salem watches everything play out through his crystal ball.  Even Hot Dog gets gender swapped to become a female poodle named Haute Dog.

Archie, Reggie, Moose, Dilton and Jughead become Archina, Regina, Mouse, Dilly and JJ.  Moose makes the most radical transition from being a hulking athlete to a petite blonde with the desire to start a women's football team.  . JJ still has her appetite, Regina is a diva pranksters

The gender swap extends to Josie and the Pussycats, who become Joey and the Junkyard Dogs.

Veronica and Betty become Billy and Ronnie, and the love triangle now has them chasing Archina for her affections.   Billy becomes Riverdale's star athlete in the process, and Ronnie is still the rich kid in town trying to use his fiscal advantage to blunt Billy's athletic prowess which as caught Archina's attention

Even Mr. Weathersbee, Pops,  Ms. Beazly and Ms Grundy and the parents are part of the swap..

Archie Marries The Sistah

Knowing Archie's history of not committing to either Betty or Veronica, the one with Valerie probably won't last either.

Still tripping about how I missed this Archie related news four years ago, but then again, it WAS a presidential election year and I like everyone else in Black America was worried about the reelection of President Obama.

One of the things my close friends and longtime readers know about me is that I am a huge Archie comics fan.  I have followed the exploits of Archie, his Riverdale High friends and pondered the Betty and Veronica love triangle since my preteens.

I was pleased to see as a longtime Archie comics fan besides the gender swap one that happened in issue 636 that puts a new gender swapped spin on the Archie, Betty and Veronica love triangle, the interracial relationship curveball they introduced into this longtime iconic comic that is now 75 years old.


;It started with the release of Issues 608-609 featuring the budding relationship of Archie and Josie and the Pussycats bassist Valerie Smith, and received rave reviews from Archie fans.

The storyline picks up from where it left off in issues 631-634 that were published by Archie Comics starting in June 2012.

In issue 631 Valerie returns to Riverdale for a Josie and the Pussycats concert with news for Archie that she and her family are moving there, which as you guessed is not received well by Betty and Veronica.

But Betty gets the bonus with the move to Riverdale of her latest romantic rival for Archie's affections an interracial relationship of her own.  Valerie's little brother Trevor quickly takes Betty's mind off of Archie's rekindled romance with his big sister, and Trev turns out to be a talented vocalist on top of it..

Valerie after moving to Riverdale with her family, takes a walk after settling into her Riverdale life down Memory Lane and starts imagining what her life would be like married to Archie.  

Valerie ends up seeing it five years into the future with her and Archie getting engaged and married. They leave their respective bands to make music together as the duo Him and Her, and Trevor Smith ends up as the new lead singer of Sugar Sugar, the renamed Archie's, and Veronica joins the Pussycats to fill the vacancy left by Valerie's departure.  

The happy couple ends up teaching at a music school, on a reality TV show, and eventually have a child together in their daughter Star.  She turns out to have inherited her parents musical talents and ends up being a serious attention getting child musical prodigy.

The four part 'Archie Marries Valerie' story arc concludes in Issue 634 with Valerie still wandering Memory Lane pondering their futures together.  She realizes that Archie has shown the ability to attract many of the girls in the Riverdale area prior to her arrival there, and ponders how that affects her by contemplating all the possible wedding scenarios  in the pages of that issue that involve Cheryl Blossom, her bandmate Josie McCoy, Sabrina Spellman, Betty and Veronica of course, Ginger Lopez, Midge Potts and even Big Ethel.

That TMI overload sends Valerie scurrying away from Memory Lane and leads to Valerie and Archie setting up a meeting to discuss their relationship. .

How that conversation between Valerie and Archie ended up, I'll have to get the graphic novel to tell you definitively what went down.

The series of comics covering the Archie and Valerie relationship story arc was published in the graphic novel entitled Archie- A Rock 'n' Roll Romance.
Looks like I'll have to see if I can find it either at my fave comic stores or try to find it online to see how the story ended.

Frenchy's 45th Anniversary!

You long time TransGriot readers may recall as part of a series of posts I was doing about my fave local chains when I was living in Da Ville at the time, I wrote one about the 40th anniversary of Houston's legendary local eateries in Frenchy's chicken.

It's five years later, I'm back in the Houston city limits happily scarfing it up,  and Frenchy's is celebrating its 45th anniversary today. 

It's probably a bittersweet one because one of the co-founders of it, Percy 'Frenchy' Creuzot passed away in June 2010.  

Frenchy's grew from a po-boy stand on Scott Street that Percy and Sallie Creuzot opened July 3, 1969 in the shadow of Wheeler Ave. Baptist Church and the nearby UH and TSU campuses to become the legendary Creole seasoned 'Taste That Lasts Forever'. 

It has had its ups and downs, but it is still here.  With Frenchy's now being run by Percy 'King' Creuzot III, it is poised to continue to grow deep into the 21st century.  

Frenchy's is marking this anniversary by giving every 45th customer a commemorative 'I Eat Frenchy's Chicken' t-shirt and donating 1% of all sales of the three piece Campus Special (my fave) to the United Negro College Fund.  

Kind of apropos since the original location is near an HBCU.

And even better, I think I'll help them celebrate their anniversary by taking a walk up the street to the new location they just opened near me and the soon to be opened METRORail Purple Line and grab a Campus Special.   Hopefully I time it just right so I'm one of the 45th customers of the day and get a shirt. 

Happy 45th anniversary Frenchy's.  May you have many more to come.

Still Miss Y'all, Louisville!

Ever since I accompanied by Polar back in May 2010 drove the moving van onto that I-65 south entrance ramp to eventually end up 1000 miles later back here in Houston to close that chapter of my life, I have yet to return to the Louisville metro area.   Had a few nibbles of interest in the area concerning some speaking engagements in the area or attempts to bring me back for visits that fizzed out,but for the most part it's been close but no quality time in Louisville.

If or when it does happen, I know I'm going to be busy just squeezing in visits with all the people who want to see me when I do return

But every now and then thoughts, events, Facebook photos, UK or U of L games or comments form people in the area trigger memories of the overall pleasant nearly nine years I was a resident of the state. 

I was watching the Louisville-UCF game and thinking about the numerous times I was on the U of L  campus to participate in various events.  I think about those lobby events in Louisville and Frankfort I got to participate in and some of the funny and not so funny moments that happened during those times.

I ponder the many runs up and down I-64 to Lexington and back or up and down I-65 to Indianapolis and Nashville.  I think about the long list of people I met there who became and I still call my friends along with my chosen family that still lives inside I-265.

And this picture Dawn sent me jogged even more memories and this post as we get closer to Halloween   

Grinstead Ave where I used to live is just a few short blocks away from Hillcrest Ave.  Every Halloween for over 20 years the homeowners on that street between Frankfort Avenue and Brownsboro Rd in the Crescent Hill neighborhood would decorate their houses for the occasion.   Some of the decorations were political, others fit the Halloween theme and it drew people from all over the Louisville area to come see them..

One of my favorite houses on that stretch was Dante's Disco Inferno, in which the homeowner installs a working lighted disco dance floor, has mirrored disco balls in the trees and played 70's disco music with tombstones and half buried records surrounding it as people dance to their favorite disco tunes.

That picture rekindled some fond memories of walking up and down the street with all the costumed kids happily in search of candy or happy they get to be their fave character for the night.

There were others on the Trans National Holiday also dressing up for the night, but that's another story.  

Yeah Louisville, just in case you're wondering, I still miss y'all too.

The POTUS Ain't Kidding- He's Got This

As we get closer to November 6 and this contentious 2012 presidential election season mercifully draws to a close, the high stakes of this election can stress political junkies and people who pay attention to politics like I do out at times.    The media wanting a horse race contest, being African-American and knowing that the Republicans do give a rat's anus about my people only adds to that anxiety

So to deal with that election induced anxiety I head over to sites like 270towin.com and play with the maps there.   FYI TransGriot readers, here's the way I think it will play out on November 6.  

When this election started President Obama's solidly in his corner states totaled to 201 electoral votes with Romney having a base electoral vote total of 191.  Eleven states, NV, CO, IA,WI, MI, OH, PA, NH, VA, NC and FL totaling 176 electoral votes were considered battleground states at the beginning of this process.

Five of those 11 states, Nevada (6 EVs), WI (10 EV's), MI (16 EV's), PA (20 EV's) and NH (4 EV's) are now leaning toward Obama or considered in the POTUS column bringing him up to 263 electoral votes, just seven shy of the magic 270 mark and victory.  NC (15 EV's) is considered leaning to Romney, brining his total up to 206.  

Of the four remaining toss-up states, CO (9 EV's), VA (13 EV's), OH (18 EVs) and FL (29 EV's),  Ohio is the critical one for Romney as it is for any Republican candidate.    If President Obama holds OH, he can start writing his second inaugural speech because that gives him 281 electoral votes and four more years as POTUS 44 because there is no way Mittens can catch him even if Romney won VA, CO or FL.  

But Ohio is the critical one, which is why you'll see both tickets heading to Ohio and millions spent on commercials and GOP voter suppression tricks on an almost daily basis along with the other four states with North Carolina thrown in.   If the POTUS lost Ohio, all he has to do is win just one of those three remaining states in VA, CO, FL or any combination to get his second term. 

Romney must win all three states plus OH to become (yecch) the 45th president of the United States, and he's got problems in all four of them.  Ohio, Virginia and Colorado are leaning President Obama's way and it's a dead heat in Florida.

So nope, the POTUS wasn't being overconfident when he stated on the Tom Joyner Morning Show and 60 Minutes that he's going to win this election.    It's looking more likely that going to happen, but we still have a lot of work to do to ensure it does.
  

 

Today Is National Doughnut Day

In the States today is National Doughnut Day and I've written a couple of posts on this blog waxing poetic about my love of Shipley's Donuts and 'Krispy Kracks'.

Some of the Shipley's Donuts locations in the area are giving out a free donut in honor of this day from 5 AM-12 Noon.

There's actually a serious reason why this day came into existence and eventually became celebrated in the United States.

National Doughnut Day started in 1938 as a fund raiser for Chicago's The Salvation Army. Their goal was to help the needy during the Great Depression and honor The Salvation Army "Lassies" of World War I, who served doughnuts to soldiers.

Not long after US entered World War I in 1917, The Salvation Army sent a fact-finding mission to France to find out what the needs of US servicemen were.  The fact-finding mission concluded that establishing  canteens/social centers they called "huts" which served baked goods, provided writing supplies and stamps, and a clothes-mending service would be a good way to do that.

The huts were quickly established by The Salvation Army near army training centers.in the United States staffed by six people that included four female volunteers who could "mother" the troops.  In addition approximately 250 The Salvation Army volunteers went to France to set up the huts near the front lines. 

Because of the difficulties of providing freshly baked goods from huts established in abandoned buildings close to the front lines, The Salvation Army volunteers Ensign Margaret Sheldon and Adjutant Helen Purviance suggested providing doughnuts to those front line locations.

They were a hit and the numbers of soldiers visiting The Salvation Army huts exponentially increased.  The 'doughboy' nickname that American troops were given in World War I is alleged to have started as a result of The Salvation Army huts, but its first usage actually goes back to the 1846-47 Mexican-American War. 

The Salvation Army still uses it as their spring fundraising opportunity, but independent and chain doughnut stores have adopted June 1 a big promotional day.  For those people like moi who love doughnuts in whatever flavor they come in, we're glad they did.

I don't have the ability to get Krispy Kreme doughnuts anymore unless I go to Da Ville or some locale in the Midwest or east coast in their sales turf such as Washington DC.
  
And no Mayhem, until I visit you and my Ice Capp loving homegirl in the Great White North or the parts of the US that have Tim Horton's locations, I won't be able to sample any of 'Timmys' delicious doughnuts.

But it still won't prevent me from properly celebrating this day.

On that note, in a few hours I'll be celebrating National Doughnut Day properly by making a trip to the Shipley's location down the street and getting a half dozen glazed donuts in addition to my free one.

''Single Ladies' Season 2 Starts May 29

Y'all are well aware of how much I loved VH1's series Single Ladies and was happy it got renewed for a second season.   While LisaRaye McCoy and Charity Shea will be back reprising their roles as Keisha and April, Stacey Dash will not be returning as Val.

She's being replaced by Denise Vasi who'll be playing Keisha's best friend Raquel Lancaster

It will kick off Season 2 May 29, and I'm looking forward to seeing how this one plays out.

Imagining 'A Different World' 2K12

With the 25th anniversary of the first episode of the groundbreaking show A Different World happening this September (and yes peeps, you will be getting another one of my A Different World trivia quizzes to ponder) , one of the things that has mystified me is why Carsey-Werner won't release Seasons 2-6 of A Different World on DVD, much less do a reunion show.

Is it because that show not only was talking about some groundbreaking subjects back in the day such as date rape, HIV/AIDS, and South African divestment to force the end of apartheid and the 1992 LA Riots, it was also one of the few that showed Black college students in a positive and intelligent light doing mundane things like going to class, intelligently discussing issues and falling in love with each other?

Surely that can't be the reason A Different World hasn't been released much less had a reunion show?

With the 25th anniversary coming up, it is unlikely a positive Black oriented show like that will see air time again since Hollywood is too 'scurred' (and racist) to greenlight it.  So I did some hard solid thinking and tried to imagine what an A Different World 2k12 would look like.

My vision of it is centered around Whitley and Dwayne Wayne's first born child who I've named Courtney Marion-Adele Wayne.   She's got her mom's looks and intelligence along with her dad's brains, and has to struggle with the expectations of being the daughter of Dwayne and Whitley and her parents competing visions for their firstborn child who is following in their Hillman footsteps.

Complicating Courtney's life is her freshman brother Dwayne C.Wayne, Jr. who while not as intelligent as his genius sister, has off the charts basketball talent his athletically challenged dad and godfather Ron Johnson never had.  He turned down several scholarships to collegiate basketball powerhouse schools in order to make his parents happy and attend their alma mater.  He is once again in his sister's and parents considerable shadows, wondering if he made a mistake in attending Hillman and is considering a transfer to another school. . 

DJ also inherited his godfather Ron's way with the ladies, but has become interested in an attractive half Black, half Japanese sophomore world history major named Midori.  His growing attraction to her has him shelving his plans to transfer and successfully concentrating on his academics and raising his GPA with her help.  Her mother is the top female VP at Konichiwa Electronics and when Midori tells her during a homecoming weekend visit to Hillman that she likes DJ, her mother frowns at the mention of his name.

DJ's best friend is teammate Marcus Heywood, who also shares the same drama of being the child of noted Hillman alums in that his father is Bishop Dorian Heywood and playwright and poet Lena James-Heywood.

Olivia Kendall is on the Hillman campus as well fulfilling a several generation family tradition on her mom's side of attending Hillman.  She's a prelaw student who has admired the legal career of Winifred Brooks, who is now teaching law on the Hillman campus.   She's a roommate of Kendra Boyle, the daughter of Dr. Kimberly Reese-Boyle who has her own career plans that do not involve following in her parent's medical footsteps, but her grandfather Clinton's law enforcement ones to her mom's displeasure.

The Pit is still around, but now run by a more mature and wiser Darnell Gaines or a totally new character.  .  

My imagining the show calls for it to focus like it did in the 80's and 90's on issues of importance to HBCU college students in the 2K10's.   Since the fictional Hillman campus is also in Virginia, it has a platform to comment on current Virginia state politics as well.

And yep, you know you'd have to have on A Different World 2k12 cameo appearances from Kadeem Hardison, Jasmine Guy, Karen Malina White, Dawnn Lewis, Darryl Bell and some of the other folks we know and love from the show..

I can also see grandmothers Patti LaBelle and Diahann Carroll (AKA Adele Wayne and Marion Gilbert) hilariously popping in on their grandbabies at Hillman when they least expected it, or Alisa Gyse Dickens reprising her Kinu role and visiting her daughter Midori on the same weekend Whitley is visiting her kids.
 
So will we see A Different World 2K12?    Probably only in our dreams.

Upcoming Archie Gender Swap Issue

One of my guilty pleasures is Archie comic books, and I was pleased to find out some interesting details about the upcoming Issue 636 that will hit newsstands around August 22.

It will contain a story called 'The Great Switcheroo' that involves Sabrina the Teenage Witch and her cat Salem.  It will focus on gender and the perceptions of gender roles by having gender swapped versions of Archie, Betty and Veronica as they become Archina, Billy and Ronnie.

It happens after Salem hears the denizens of Riverdale articulating the age old grumbling about how the other gender has it easier, then casts a magic spell that flips the gender script.

Hmm.  Looking forward to reading this one if I can get my hands on it when it hits the newsstand of my fave local comic book store.   

This also isn't the first time Archie has been reimagined in the other gender.    In Issue 516 there was a story called 'The Other Side Of The Fence' in which Archie's mother, frustrated about being the lone estrogen based lifeform in the house and raising a teenage son imagines what life would be like if Archie had been born a girl.   

She changes her mind after having lunch with Mrs. Lodge and Mrs. Cooper and they talk about the drama their daughters Veronica and Betty put them through..

At any rate, really looking forward to adding this one to my collection.

The Oreo Cookie's 100th Anniversary

Back on March 6 the Oreo cookie celebrated its 100th anniversary.   The cookie was first produced by Nabisco in 1912 in its New York City factory as a response to the Hydrox cookie.   IIt has become the most popular cookie sold in the United States over the last century and into the 21st century.

The Oreo cookie has also become an iconic slice of our childhoods and our pop culture.

The Oreo has become part of African-American culture as a derogatory word you call a black person who to their fellow African-Americans has acquiesced sold out to whiteness and white supremacy and backstabbed the Black community for their own personal gain.

In other words, when you call someone an 'Oreo' in the black community you are asserting, like the cookie, they are black on the outside and white on the inside and it's on like Donkey Kong when you do so.

That's a post for another time, but as someone who has happily demolished more than her fair share of Oreo cookies during my lifetime, I definitely needed to take some time to recognize the centennial birthday of one of my favorite cookies.

Salivating For Slurpees

Isis King (yes, that Isis) is responsible for this post because while I was on Twitter the other night she tweeted about wishing she was near a 7-11 so she could get something sweet to snack on.

That got me wistfully thinking about one of the iconic drinks of my childhood I can no longer buy here in Houston at a convenience store, the Slurpee.

You can only get them at a 7-Eleven store and until 1990 I could.  There was a 7-Eleven on the route I walked home from elementary and junior high school that I used to stop by, spend my residual lunch money and happily get my large Slurpees from.   When I got my drivers license it was even easier to do so until the Dallas-based Southland Corporation, the parent company of 7-Eleven went bankrupt. 

All of the local 7-Elevens were sold to National Convenience Stores which ran the rival Stop-n-Go chain.   Some former 7-Eleven stores like the one in my neighborhood changed hands to a private owner while others suffered the fate of being closed either because it was across the street from a Stop-n-Go or they couldn't find a buyer. . 

Me and my friends sarcastically called them Stop-n-Robs, but that's another story for another Moni musing blog post.  The closest 7-Elevens to me now are in the Austin area.

So it puts me in the situation that any time I traveled somewhere in the States either with friends or solo and I discover there's a 7-Eleven in the vicinity, there's a mandatory stop made at some point during my visit for me to purchase two large Slurpees.  

My love of Slurpees also got me some unwanted male attention one day. 

During my airline days I frequently flew to LAX to hang out with various people.  During the first Los Angeles trip in which I stayed with my friend and former co-worker Alsenia Davis back in 1991 I gleefully discovered that not far from her apartment there was a 7-Eleven on the corner of San Vicente Blvd.and Hauser Blvd.  .

It was a fifteen minute walk up there from S.Dunsmuir St and back but I didn't care.  Like clockwork, any time I flew to visit Seni I'd drop my bags off, get changed and head to that 7-Eleven to get two large Slurpees I'd happily destroy on the way back to her apartment.

During the first day of my 1996 vacation trip to LA I got up around noon to keep my Slurpee drinking tradition alive and headed to that 7-Eleven.  What I wasn't aware of was a jerri-curled brother spotted me walking to the store from his apartment on San Vicente and I was moving like Flo Jo and too fast for him to ascertain where I was headed..

After I arrived at the 7-Eleven and purchased my large grape and Coke flavored Slurpees I headed back toward Dunsmuir Street.

My joy and rapture at getting reacquainted with my fave frozen carbonated beverage was interrupted by the annoying attempt of Mr. Soul Glo trying to mack Moni. 

He ran across six lanes of San Vicente Blvd traffic and started walking with me in his doomed to fail attempt to get me to follow him back to his place.   

"Say mama, I sho' would like to get to know you better," Mr. Soul Glo said as I silently said to myself "No way in Hell, brother,"

"What's your name?" he asked as I was two blocks away from my turn onto Dunsmuir St and the half a block down it I'd have to walk to get to Seni's.   I didn't want this buster trailing me all the way there, so I stopped drinking my Slurpee for a moment, looked at him seductively in the eyes and said,"Ralph".

While he was trying to ascertain whether I was serious or not I quickened my pace and got out of his line of sight before he could figure out what his next move was.     

So yeah, my salivating for Slurpees runs deep and it's been almost two years since my last one. 

I'm also happy to hear that 7-Eleven has cut a deal with Cinemark Theaters to sell them at selected ones in the Houston area for the first time in this area since 1990.  

Just my luck the closest Cinemark Theaters to me are halfway across town.
