2016 ESPN The Body Issue Includes A Trans Athlete

The ESPN The Magazine's The Body Issue has been featuring since 2009 nude and semi nude photos of elite athletes for several years now

The 2016 edition is due out next month, and when it does hit the newsstands it will feature a little trans history.   Chris Mosier is a trailblazing duathlete, advocate for trans athletes and the first out trans athlete to qualify for a US national team,

Now he is also the first out trans athlete to appear in the pages of the ESPN The Body Issue.

Mosier said in an interview with ESPN's Christina Kahrl that he has wanted to be in that issue for over a year, and now he has accomplished that goal.

"There are a lot of people making history right now, and they just may not be as public as I am,"said Mosier.

'I think the reason I felt so inspired to do it is because I'm finally at a place that i fell very comfortable with my body. And as a trans person, being in a body that really didn't fit me for 29 years, now I feel very comfortable in my own skin," he added.

Curt Schilling Fired From ESPN After Transphobic Tweets

What is it that makes some retired baseball players turn into raging transphobes?

First it was Lance Berkman and his anti-trans rants during our fight to keep HERO, and now it's Curt Schilling, fresh off an ESPN suspension of his analyst duties for unleashing anti-Muslim comments comparing them to Nazis last August, didn't learn anything from the time off and then turned his sights on attacking trans people.

Schilling unleashed a transphobic meme and combined it with this transphobic comment on Hate Bill 2

“A man is a man no matter what they call themselves. I don’t care what they are, who they sleep with, men’s room was designed for the penis, women’s not so much. Now you need laws telling us differently? Pathetic.”

And guess Schilling's azz forgot that one of his fellow baseball coverage coworkers at ESPN is my trans homegirl Christina Kahrl.

Because Cyd Zeigler of OutSports called this transphobic crap out and got media attention focused on Schilling's latest case of Internet foot in mouth tweets, ESPN fired him yesterday
 
"ESPN is an inclusive company," said the network in a statement. "Curt Schilling has been advised that his conduct was unacceptable and his employment with ESPN has been terminated."

Oh well, I won't be surprised if I see or hear that he's been hired at FOX Noise. .But at least when I watch ESPN baseball telecasts his voice won't be polluting the airwaves and spoiling the game for me and other trans baseball fans.

And yeah, he's a contender for this week's Shut Up Fool Award.

It was a shock to hear that groundbreaking ESPN sportscaster Stuart Scott passed away this morning after a valiant battle with cancer at age 49.

As you TransGriot readers know I'm a big sports fan, and one of the channels my TV is parked on is ESPN.  I grew to love watching his Sports Center broadcasts and especially when her did highlights because he brought our cultural swag to it.

He' was loved by his colleagues, the professional athletes he covered, and his fans like me, and he's going to be missed.

UH ESPN GameDay Notes: Corso Picked The Coogs!

 But not so fast my friend, Corso dropped the f-bomb in doing so and had to apologize for it later. 



Still doesn't detract from the fact he knows his football.

ESPN College GameDay On Campus

The ESPN College GameDay crew is on the University of Houston campus for the first time ever, and UH Cougar Nation, the campus, alums and the city is hyped because of it.

As the Vice President would characterize it, it is a BFD to us longsuffering UH football fans.

The stage has been set up in Cullen Center and the 300 person standing room only area behind the stage opened at 6 AM CST for the broadcast that will be cranking up at 8 AM CST in advance of today's 2:30  PM kickoff against the SMU Mustangs.

Today's game also happens to be Senior Day and it's sold out.    

I'll be on the UH campus later this evening for more serious business, but definitely will be getting up a little earlier than I normally do on a Saturday to watch the fun transpiring on my alma mater's campus..
