Our target today is somebody trying to call themselves inthenameoftruth. This person tried to place a comment on my A Flag Burning I'm Down With post I wrote in September 2010.
The confederate flag represents NOTHING to do with slavery. To assign it that kind of meaning is a sad, uneducated, simplification. I'm disappointed. You seemed smarter than that.5...4...3....2....1...launch.
Sniff sniff, I smell vanilla scented Southern fried privilege who has spent too much time watching Fox Noise, pining over Confederate flags and voting Republican. I'm disappointed at the sad, uneducated and cluelessly ignorant two sentences of Southern fried bull feces you tried to pass off as intelligent discourse.
Time for a history lesson, a dose of reality about the Confederacy, and for you inthenameoflies to find out what happens to people who attempt to dismiss my intellect.
They get pwned. So let me start having fun doing so right now.
The reality is that the Confederacy not only seceded from the United States over slavery, (see the Declarations of the Causes of Secession from Georgia, Texas, and Mississippi for that) it fought a war they provoked to keep my ancestors enslaved. There's no sugar coating that fact with 'Lost Cause' rhetoric, historical revisionism or obfuscation. This is what I said in that post, and I stand by every word of it.
But when it comes to the Confederate flag, it represents a failed nation founded by traitors during the Civil War. It was founded to not only perpetuate enslaving my ancestors, but with a cornerstone premise that me and my ancestors are not equal to whites and fought a war to continue enslaving people who share my African ancestry.The Confederacy doesn't exist, so it is a failed nation. It was founded by traitors to the United States. Treason against the USA is defined by Article 3, Section 3 of the United States Constitution as:
Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.So according to Article 3, section 3 of the Constitution, anyone who fought against the United States on behalf of the Confederacy, led it or supported it is a traitor.
The Congress shall have power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted.
Once again, let's peruse the March 21, 1861 Savannah, GA 'Cornerstone Speech' given by newly minted Confederate Vice President Alexander Stephens. Here's the money quote:Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its corner- stone rests upon the great truth, that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery -- subordination to the superior race -- is his natural and normal condition. [Applause.] This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth.Your weak comment is already buckling under the pressure of this quote from the Confederate Vice President himself. But let me continue to shatter and splatter your 'Lost Cause' pipe dream that the Confederacy wasn't about slavery.
In the Articles of the Confederate Constitution, while they continued the ban on importation of slaves that was instituted by the US government in 1808, it does make explicit the legal protection of owning slaves
No bill of attainder, ex post facto law, or law denying or impairing the right of property in negro slaves shall be passedThe Confederate constitution prohibited the Confederate Congress from abolishing or limiting slavery in Confederate territories.
