The 2011 UH football season starts with our all world quarterback Case Keenum being granted a medical redshirt season after last year prematurely ended for him, the announcement that our Bayou Bucket showdown with Rice will be played at Reliant Stadium in 2012 and 2013 and speculative buzz that we might get that invitation to the Big XII we've wanted ever since we were Left Behind in the wake of the SWC breakup.
But first things first. We have to handle our Robertson Stadium business against the UCLA Bruins..
Coach K takes this 2011 edition of the Cougars onto the field for a 2;30 PM CDT showdown against the Bruins team that ended Case's season. Beating the team that pinned a 31-13 loss on them that jumpstarted the skid that led to a disappointing 5-7 record would be satisfying as well.
The offense will be loaded with Case returning for a sixth season, a pair of 1000 yard receivers in Tyron Carrier and Patrick Edwards and a seasoned stable of running backs led by senior Bryce Beall.
But just like their play for pay NFL counterparts over on Kirby Drive, Cougar football fans have the same worries about a defense that ranked 103rd in the NCAA last year
.
They say the defense will be better than last year, and they will get a severe test from UCLA's Pistol offense to prove that they are.
Eat 'em up Coogs!.
