Pretty Positive

On World AIDS day, I'd be remiss in my duties to tell our stories on TransGriot if I didn't point out the fact that one of the issues that negatively impacts transpeople,  especially transpeople of color is HIV/AIDS.

Various needs assessments surveys in Washington DC, San Francisco, and Los Angeles have revealed that up to 20-25% of the transwomen in those cities and across the nation are HIV positive..

Many of them acquired the disease through unprotected sex or via sharing hormone shot needles at pumping parties with a person or persons who were HIV positive

But for those people who are trans and have been diagnosed with HIV,  it's not a death sentence.  Some have been living with HIV for over a decade or more.

Here's a link to stories of various transpeople who are living with HIV/AIDS.
