TransGriot Note: This from from Tyra's show about the movie Trantasia. While I hate Tyra's penchant for asking the 'what was your old male name' question, which frankly is nobody's business, it was still an interesting look into the lives of the participants in the movie, which was about the first (and only) World Most Beautiful Transsexual contest that took place in Las Vegas in 2004.
Tiara Russell has an interesting (and minority opinion) about how he self identifies.
Tiara Russell's minority opinion is an understatement. Tiara views himself as a male female impersonator. It shows about how sincere that pageant's commitment was to trans female identities in the first place. Just because someone looks feminine doesn't make you a trans woman. It's both lookist and a serious distortion of what being a trans woman actually means to suggest he belonged in that contest.
ReplyDeleteI have zero issue with tiara's identity, which is a perfectly good one (and I appreciate his honesty), I just have a problem with putting him in the same group as a bunch of trans women. Yes, there are female impersonators who have ended up eventually transitioning but in Tiara's case, where Tiara says he wants to someday be buried as a male pretty much puts a squelch on that.
Btw, Mimi Marks... the World's Most Beautiful Transsexual? Seriously... clearly a joke, more than a little racist and a fixed result.
