Y'all knew as soon as the Tyra show with little sis Isis was up on YouTube I'd post it to the blog. I haven't seen it either so I'll be watching the video along with you.
Shoot, where's my popcorn?
Isis, if you're reading this, congratulations on the engagement.
I love me some Isis... but... she looks way more attractive in the top photo. Simple, classic hairstyle. That blonde octopus she had on her head on the Tyra show... mmm, did not work. Also, her boyfriend Desmond is very cute (reminds me a little of John Legend!) but, baby, you've known the man exactly ONE MONTH! I repeat... ONE MEASLY FREAKIN' FRACKIN MONTH! No wonder your mama always has a pained expression on her face.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Tyra (who just received a GLAAD award) believe it or not, you do NOT need to have a blown up "before" photo of every transwoman you have on your show nor did you have to dig into Marci Bower's history on your show (Marci's been done to death, anyway). Nor did you have to show Isis' senior photo from high school yet again. We get it... you're 'shocked' we used to be men... now grow up Tootie. Enough already.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting the videos, I hope it stays on Youtube until I'm finished registering and what not *sigh* I'm really not that fond of Tyra but I'm curious...
ReplyDeleteSomebody needs to sit Tyra down and tell her, girlfriend, you've got the potential to do some great work, but you're sliding down the Springer path.
ReplyDeleteAs with Oprah, Tyra's had some wonderfully informative shows on trans issues and some that sucked big time and stank of exploitation. What bugs me is the way she tends to talk down to the lowest common denominator and continue to use language like "Isis was born a man", "so... you wanted to be a woman" and moments like when she demonstrated HOW TO PEE to a young post-op transwoman... as if she wouldn't know how to do it. She also had Gia Darling on the show about trans dating and never even mentioned Gia is a porn star... as if that was the only transwoman they could have gotten. She needs to leave the world of shock value and expand upon talking about women leading women's lives. I also wish she had spent more time talking to Isis about her experience with homelessness (and getting out of it), which is an important, inspiring message for people to hear.
