Wow, when I originally read the article, I thought it was about an FTM! Complete lack of respect aside, the article is awful because it's confusing.
ReplyDeleteWhat I also forgot to mention was once again, it was a transgender person of color who was dissed.
ReplyDeleteThe person was Latina.
Hey there!
ReplyDeleteThis is so sad.
I do not understand why the reporters can NOT get this right!
When I am in a non-trans community and I am referring to a trans person, I use the person's name and do not refer to the person with pronouns because I have noticed over and over again that it is confusing to those persons who just can not see a transperson as being the gender that is presented. I have seen transwomen who are still being referred to by male pronouns - by MEN and WOMEN!
I have seen transmen who are still being referred to by female pronouns - by MEN and WOMEN!
They just can not will not and do not see the gender that is being presented.
It's tiring.
Peace, blessings and DUNAMIS!
Lisa
Her name is Ruby Molina. She was in transition MtF and was only 22 years old.
ReplyDeleteThe local newspaper, the Sacramento Bee, hedged about her gender in its first headline, referring to her as a "transgender person". But its most recent article (just posted) still gets stuff wrong. At least it has a photo of her.
Dale,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up.
I ask again, is it that farcking hard for the media to respectfully report on transgender individuals.
Unfortunately, the Mexican government do not let transgenders or transsexuals change their name when they are in the process of transition and that applies to everything, passport, consular card, etc.... In the other hand, transgenders with valid immigration papers can change their born name only if they meet certain requirements but its only in the United States. For those who live here illegal they have to go by their nick names and never are able to change their born name.
