The Rainbow Crosswalk Is Up In Houston!

No automatic alt text available.
Just in time for Houston Pride Week is this first in Texas TBGLQ themed crosswalk went up at the corner of Westheimer and Taft streets in the Montrose gayborhood this weekend.

The site of the crosswalk was chosen to honor 21 year old Alex Hill, who was killed at that intersection by a hit and run driver in January 2016.   The traffic light control box is painted with a mural of Alex and his friends with a rainbow sunburst in the background.

'While this project was initially requested by friends of Alex Hill,  the idea behind the crosswalk is to also honor  the support and friendship many people find in Houston's LGBT community," said Matthew Brollier, a member of the Houston Pride Crosswalk Committee in an OutSmart interview. "Hill's friends join countless Houstonians in encouraging the city to improve safety conditions for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers on its roadways,"

The $15,000 cost of the crosswalks were paid for by Pride Houston and will last for two and a half years.  A permanent rainbow crosswalk will be installed at the intersection when the Lower Westheimer reconstruction project gets completed by the city of Houston.

Happy Fathers Day, Papa Bears!

I talk a lot about the amazing moms of trans kids that have earned the nickname 'Mama Bears' because they are fierce and determined advocates for their trans cubs.

But on this Father's Day, I want to highlight and give a shout out this Father's Day for the Papa Bears, the fathers of trans kids who are just as supportive and just as fiercely protective of their trans offspring as their moms are.

Image result for wayne maines ted talk
I met the amazing Wayne Maines at the same time I met Jeanette Jennings, back during the 2012 Philly Trans Health Conference, and through both of them subsequently met their amazing trans daughters.   Every time I have a chance to spend some quality time with Wayne at PTHC, we have some long conversations about a wide range of issues in addition to trans politics.

Image result for trans mama bears
Since then I've gotten a chance to meet the Texas Papa Bears.    I've gotten to meet and know Aaron Richie and his family, and Dallas' Frank Gonzales and his family.   I'm looking forward to meeting Greg Lambert in the near future if I haven't done so already.

All three men were standing tall for their kids during the SB 6 and HB 2899 fights, and I bump into Aaron on a regular basis at various events in the Houston area.

And yes, there are Black Papa Bears in the person of J.R. Ford, Joseph Ghartey and Chris Neal who support their trans kids and provide them the unconditional love they need to survive and thrive in a hostile at times to trans kids world that is trying to assert despite all the evidence that they shouldn't exist.

The Neals (from left to right) Thane, DeShanna, Hyperion,
Happy Father's Day Papa Bears!  Thanks for all you do to not only help raise your kids, but in some cases are also sterling leadership examples that we trans elders can admire and follow.

Laverne's 'The View' Suggestion As To Why Trump Hasn't Done A Pride Proclamation

Had to chuckle when I saw this video of Laverne Cox's recent appearance on ABC's The View and Joy Behar asked her for her thoughts on Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) Orange Is The New Black, transgender rights issues, trans people in the media and why 45 hasn't issued a pride proclamation like his predecessor President Obama did.

Laverne as usual does a fantastic job in driving home the point that TBLGQ Americans are also Americans, then slides a comment aimed at 45 you'll have to watch.

Enjoy

Killing Black People Is As American As Apple Pie

Image result for philando castile
Like many of you, I was disgusted about the miscarriage of justice in Minnesota and seeing another police perpetrator of a murder of a young Black man get off for his crime.

But as any African American can tell you, this isn't a new phenomenon.  Killing Black people and getting away with it is as American as apple pie.

Image result for slave ships
Why am I saying that?   Because white people have been taught and conditioned because of 246 years of slavery and another 100 years of Jim Crow segregation to have little to zero regard for the lives of African descended people.

In order to justify owning another human being, you have to demonize them, and anti-Blackness did that.   Anti-Blackness is one of the negative legacies of America's original sin of slavery. When you spend 400 plus years demonizing African descended people, that negativity just didn't go away when the Civil War and slavery ended.
Image result for little rock nine protesters
It is deeply embedded in the American psyche to hate Black people.  It is also a deeply embedded practice to kill Black people and face little or no punishment for it via lynchings and extrajudicial killings.

As an example, when Lawrence Russell Brewer, Shawn Allen Berry and John William King were convicted in 1999 for the July 7, 1998 murder of James Byrd, Jr. by callously dragging him behind a moving truck, when Brewer and King were sentenced to death, they were the first Texas white men in over 100 years to be sentenced to death for killing a Black Texan.

That's how rare it was for a white person in Texas to be sentenced to death for killing a white person

Image result for lynching photos little girl
If you think I'm kidding about this or the title of this post is over the top hyperbole, there are pictures you can Google of Black people being lynched and the white citizens turning it into a joyous occasion they mugged for the cameras or deemed it suitable to take their precious children to.

Because of the ongoing demonization and othering of Black people by the with majority, we have sadly had a long history of other ethnic groups participating and marinating in that anti-Blackness in order to be 'more American' and attempt to set their ethnic group apart from Black people.
Even African descended immigrants from the Caribbean and continental Africa who should know better have engaged in bashing American Black people when they step on these shores.

Anti-Blackness is an international problem.  Note the popularity of skin lightening creams in Asia, the Caribbean and sadly even on the African continent because dark skin is considered 'bad'.

Image result for mckinney texas police incident
It also isn't new that African-Americans have had a long, negative and ugly relationship with oppressive police to the point where we say that it's Officer Oppressor who patrols our neighborhoods, not Officer Friendly.

And police forces across the country sadly keep proving that point with every ugly incident that happens .
Eric Garner.  Tamir Rice. Michael Brown. Terrence Crutcher.  All killed by white police officers.   All those officers either were not indicted, or as sadly happened last month in the Crutcher case in Tulsa, found not guilty by predominantly white juries

What will it take for a cop who kills a Black person to get punished for it?

And miss me with that Blue Lives Matter 'be respectful to the cop' toro poo poo.  Philando Castile not only did exactly what you po-po loving conservafools screech at us,  as someone exercising his Second Amendment rights and being a licensed gun owner,  he even told Officer Yanez during the traffic stop for an inoperative tail light he had a gun and had no intention of reaching for it. .

Image result for philando castile
And he was still killed for it with his fiance Diamond Reynolds and her then 4 year old daughter in the car as passengers and witnesses to this extrajudicial murder along with the world that watched her heart wrenching Facebook Live video shot to document for posterity what happened.

The Second Amendment is for conservative white people only.   The National Rifle Association's cricket chirping silence on the Castile case proves just how anti-Black and racist they are and always have been.

When the Black Panthers marched into the California state capitol building carrying their unloaded shotguns, it's interesting to note the NRA was quick to call for gun control legislation then.

Image result for Black Panthers police patrol
Speaking of the Panthers, one of the major reasons the Black Panther Party formed in Oakland in October 1966 is because they and the Black citizens of the Oakland area were tired of being harassed and killed by police with impunity.

So what happened in the Philando Castile case isn't a new problem. It's just a problem that has never been properly addressed because of its systemic nature that the conservative white males and females in power don't want to deal with.because it isn't happening to 'their kids'

Image result for Tea Party texas protester niggar
They also don't want to deal with it because they will not only have to do some deep introspection into their own roles of perpetuating the anti-Blackness, but having to come to grips with how they and their ancestors benefit from it.

In the meantime, because of their inaction, Anti-Blackness, especially when it is combined with a racist trigger happy cop, is killing my people.  .

Montgomery County Valero Station Engaging in Transphobia

Image may contain: one or more people
Why do I keep saying hate thoughts + hate speech =  hate crimes/violence like a mantra?  It's because that is the Equation of Oppression.

Thanks to reader Charity Goodwin, I was advised of a situation that occurred at a Valero station that was spotted by another trans woman who needed to commit a revolutionary act and use the bathroom

She found this sign on the single stall bathroom at  a Valero branded gas station on 340 Valley Wood Dr in Spring just off I-45 in Montgomery County

This is what months and years of anti-trans propaganda from the Texas Republican Party, right wing pastors and conservative media leads to.   Special conservafool snowflakes putting dehumanizing signs on the door of a single stall women's bathroom.

FYI conservafool, trans women are women who also need to poop and pee.  Guess you had this pressing need to feel better about your miserable self by exercising your oppressor gene.

Microaggressive crap like this is why we Texas trans peeps fight unjust bills like HB 2899 and call out any instances of dehumanization of Texas trans people aimed at us whether it comes from the Lt Governor or some idiot running a local gas station. .

Are The Golden State Warriors Declining A White House Champions Visit?

One of the perks that comes with winning a league or collegiate championship here in the United States is getting to visit the White House and hang out with the POTUS,

But since 45 got elected, increasing number of non-white athletes are showing their disapproval of this misadministration by not going to the White House for their ceremonial victory visits

And this news is coming a day after Clemson showed up at the White House for their visit.

The Golden State Warriors are rumored to have just become the first team to decline as a group to go to the White House.  Hours after completing their near perfect 16-1 romp through the NBA playoffs to capture their fifth title as an organization and second in three years, it is being alleged they unanimously voted to not go to the White House if the invite comes.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, Stephen Curry and David West have also made it clear they don't like Dear Cheeto Leader

Image result for Warriors President Obama
When the Warriors won the NBA title in 2015, they proudly showed up to visit the White House when President Obama was living at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

The team did issue a statement after multiple stories came out stating that they had voted to decline a visit, saying that 'today is all about celebrating our championship' and no invitation had come from the White House yet.

The statement also said that the organization would make those decisions when an if necessary.

If they don't go, it will continue a pattern that is developing since January of pro athletes not wanting to show up at this White House because of its extremely problematic current occupant.

Valerie Castile Speaks In Wake Of Unjust Verdict

A Black woman with long hair speaks angrily
Right now I need some time to think about what I just witnessed in the Philando Castile case.

Another officer being acquitted of a murder of a Black man by a predominantly white jury.   The silence of the NRA and police departments in this case and countless others.

And the justice system failing the Black community once again in the case of a cop killing a Black person

Driving while Black is not a death sentence.    But it is ongoing incidents like this that have me and others Black folks playing NWA on an endless loop, questioning this country's commitment to unbiased justice,  and believing that Officer Oppressor, not Officer Friendly parols our neighborhoods.

I'm going to let Valerie Castile, the mother of Philando Castile speak.   This is her reaction immediately after the unjust verdict acquitting Jeronimo Yanez came from a predominately white Minnesota jury.

Shut Up Fool Awards- It's Juneteenth Weekend 2017 Edition

Image result for Juneteenth Houston 2017
Sunday will be Father's Day, and shoutout to all the dads and father figures in our community, especially the Papa Bears.   But this is also Juneteenth weekend, which will happen on Monday

Juneteenth is the 1865 day that Union Major General Gordon Granger read General Order No. 2 from the balcony of Galveston's Ashton Villa and declared that all Texas slaves were free.

That June 19 day starting in 1866 became known as Juneteenth, and was celebrated by Black Texans with picnics, parades and church services.   It became a tradition that Black Texans took with them wherever they migrated, and thanks to the efforts of former Texas state rep Al Edwards (D-Houston), became an official state holiday in 1980.

We now approach another Juneteenth weekend.and while we take time to celebrate our emancipation, we are also doing so as the spectre of a Texas legislative special session that will be a 30 day extra time assault on the human rights of all Texans is plotted by the Republican majority.

I'll finish that though in another post.

It's also Friday, so it's time to handle my usual business of calling out the fool, fools or group of fools who engaged in WTF levels of hypocrisy, blatant arrogance and hubris, and shake your head levels of unabashed stupidity

Let's get to this week's edition of the TransGriot Shut Up Fool Awards.

Honorable mention number one is a group award for every conservafool who tried to via conservative media blame the shooting of Steve Scalise and other Republicans on liberals.

Y'all were the ones who for years have been calling for 'Second Amendment remedies' in your campaign rhetoric, and now you mad because somebody executed a Second Amendment remedy on one of your Klan in Steve 'I'm David Duke without the Baggage' Scalise. .

Miss me with that conservafool toro poo poo.

And once again conservative movement, when will y'all condemn white on white crime and violence?

Honorable mention number two we go north of the border for and give a group award to Canadian conservative senator and transphobe Don Plett and his like minded bigots.    Their efforts to delay and smear the Trans Rights Bill finally failed, and after 12 years, they are royal assent away from having their humanity and human rights covered under Canadian federal law.

Honorable mention number three is our confederate AG Jefferson Beauregard Sessions, for being scurred of Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) asking him tough question during his Senate hearing he was lying at again.

#Kamala2020

Honorable mention number four is Waddie G for this transphobic article he aimed at Janet Mock.

Yo you ignorant transphobic waste of DNA, maybe your feeble mind isn't cognizant of the fact that Kerry Washington played a trans woman in Life Is Hot In Cracktown,  and she's one of our community's staunch allies along with Cecile Richards.

This is why I hate Black gossip blogs and especially ones with ignorant founding editors (Sandra Rose) that traffic in transphobia to generate traffic.    This is also another concrete example of the transphobic ignorance bandied about in the Black gossip blogosphere and in the Black community that leads to Black trans women getting assaulted and killed, and it needs to stop.

We have lost 13 trans women to anti-trans violence, with 12 of them being Black trans women.  It's transphobic hate speech like this that leads to anti-trans hate assaults and murders, and you need to check yourself Waddie G.,

This week's Shut Up Fool Winner is  for the second consecutive week, TX Gov Greg Abbott (R)
Image result for greg abbott special session
He signed HB 3859, which allows taxpayer funded adoption agencies to on religious grounds discriminate in terms of placing kids in LGBT families or with unmarried couples.

Once again, this idiot is pandering to his right wing base in advance of next year's gubernatorial elections, and wasting Texas taxpayer dollars in a court fight we're going to lose because of this bull feces laden law.

See you in court,  Governor Abbo, and shut up fool!   .

World's Longest Trans Pride Flag Unfurled During LA Resist March

Image result for resist march la 2017
I see my trans Latina sisters in LA have been busy once again with a new project in terms of creating the largest trans pride flag in the world just in time for the LA Pride Resist March that happened on Sunday.

This LA Resist march was attended by tens of thousands of people and many celebrities marching down Hollywood Boulevard

I confirmed with trans flag creator Monica Helms that the LA trans flag is officially the largest trans pride flag created so far in the world.  It is 25 feet 6 inches by 160 feet  (7.8 meters by 48.7 meters). It beats the Palm Springs trans pride flag by 1580 square feet  (146.8 square meters)
Image may contain: 1 person, smiling, crowd and outdoor

The previous largest trans pride flags were for parades in Mexico City and most recently Palm Springs.

The now largest trans pride flag in the world was created by them and unfurled during the LA Resist March that was part of the series of Equality Marches that took place across the country on June 11.,

Congrats LA trans fam for creating the largest trans pride flag in the world.   But have a feeling another group somewhere on this planet is going to try to beat it.

Why Y'all Mad About The 'Black Panther' Movie?

Image result for black panther
One of the movies I'm looking forward to  seeing next year is the long awaited for me and the rest of Black America Black Panther movie starring Chadwick Boseman.

The trailer was released a few days ago, and elements of the white community are losing their damned mind over it on social media as the trailer became the third most watched one in movie history.

What bothers some of y'all so much about seeing a Black superhero who is the king of the technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda?

Oh yeah.  Never mind.  Forget I asked that question.

I haven't seen elements of White America lose their mind over a movie centering Black folks since White Man's Burden came out in 1994.  That movie starred Harry Belafonte and JohnTravolta in a world in which the societal script was flipped and it was Black peeps on top of the societal totem pole and white peeps living in the 'hood.

I enjoyed trolling peeps as they walked out the theater.  I said to one guy "What's wrong?  You can't handle this fictional world?   This is mine and non-white peeps everyday reality."

Moving on from that trip down Moni Memory lane and back to discussing Black Panther.

Y'all need to get over it because this superhero exists, has since 1966 and predates the founding of the Black Panther Party, FYI, and yeah, T'Challa is a badass who for a minute was married to Storm.

Image result for black panther dora milaje
Looking forward to seeing the Dora Milaje kick some serious behind as his royal security guards,

I'm also looking to see how T'Challa's kid sister Shuri, the future Black Panther and Queen of Wakanda, is portrayed.   .

Image result for black panther movie shuri

So y'all need to chill with the ridiculous assertion being bandied about online that Black Panther is 'racist'.   Black Panther is a fictional African character based in Africa, and y'all doing over the top tripping about it.

So hate on haters.   Come Black History Month 2018, I and other Black panther fans will be going to and having a lot of fun at the local multiplex watching a superhero that looks like us.

Now if they'll get that third installment of The Best Man on the silver screen ASAP I'll be doing a happy dance at the snack bar.

Bill C-16 Passes Senate Third Reading!

Image result for Canada Flag map
June 15, 2017 is a date that will be etched into Canadian trans history.

Image result for Canadian Senate chamber
It's been a long time coming, with the first of these bills being proposed back in 2005.   It has been at times a long and frustrating road for my Canadian trans family, but when they celebrate their home and native land's 150th birthday on July 1, they will do so knowing that their human rights are covered federally as well as in every province and territory in the country.

I've talked about Bill C-16 in numerous blog posts.  It would add gender identity and expression to the list of prohibited categories under the Canadian Human Rights Act.

Image result for Trans Pride flag canada map
It would also make changes to the Canadian Criminal Code so that gender identity and expression are added to the nation's hate speech laws and make disseminating hate propaganda based on gender identity or gender expression a crime.

Bill C-16 would also add "gender identity or expression" to section 718.2 of the Criminal Code. This section of it discusses sentencing provisions and would make gender identity and gender expression an aggravating factor, which would be the bias, prejudice or hate to commit a criminal offence against the targeted person. These criminal prohibitions would apply throughout Canada..

Translation:  Targeting trans people in Canada for simply being trans would become a hate crime.

As you probably guessed, the Conservatives hated Bill C-16, and did their utmost to kill it when it left the House of Commons and hit the Senate.

This was the first time  the Trans Rights Bill was a government bill and not a private member's one as it has been on previous occasions thanks to NDP MP's Bill Siksay and Randall Garrison

Senate Expenses 20131025

B
ill C-16 passed its Third Reading vote in the Canadian Senate without amendments today on a 67-11 vote with 3 abstentions!.  Transphobic Conservative senator Don Plett, who led the charge in the senate to kill it, was probably one of the 11 no votes

Now all it needs is Royal Assent from the Governor General to become Canadian law

When those 150th anniversary celebrations erupt all over Canada, my Canadian trans fam can do so knowing that their nation respects their humanity and human rights enough to protect it in their laws.

And that a wonderful thing to think about.

World War T Is a Protracted Battle, Not A Conservative Political Blitzkrieg

Image result for war games
In the wake of the Obergefell v Hodges ruling the conservative movement lost in 2015, that was the moment they decided to shift tactics and commit to politically attacking the transgender community.

On the surface, we looked like an easy target.  We don't have large well funded national or statewide political organizations.  We're an estimated 5% of the US population at best.  We have people in the lesbian and gay ranks of the community who have been documented engaging in hating on and repeatedly throwing us under the political bus since the 1969 Stonewall Rebellion we kicked off.

Image result for trans rights are human rights
We aren't as well known to the general public as our lesbian and gay counterparts even though we've always been here and part of the diverse mosaic of human life.   Our media coverage comes in bursts.

Image result for Lady Java protest
So when the  Right Wing started the World War T attacks on trans people in their media, in their conservative 'religious' ranks, and eventually the Republican Party legislative win with the aid of our longtime enemies in the TERF movement, they thought they were going to roll to a conservative blitzkrieg, then move back to attacking the then Black POTUS and focusing their efforts back on their longtime enemies in the LGB community.

It isn't turning out as easy as they thought.
If the GOP thought we trans folks would just roll over and cry in the corner as they trampled on our human rights, they were sadly mistaken. What they are finding out is that we are a far more formidable opponent than they assumed we'd be.

Image result for Compton's cafeteria riot
When you have had to for decades fight tooth and nail, scrap, claw and rumble every day just to have your humanity, human rights and your life respected, you're not just going to roll over and meekly whimper in the corner as the Right Wing Noise Machine rolls into action to take away our human rights

You're going to fight them with every fiber of your being.

Image result for trans rights are human rights
And we weren't alone.   We have allies and some pretty potent ones.  There's the bi community, that knows firsthand what it's like to be marginalized and erased themselves.  There are lesbian and gay peeps who get it that we are stronger together when we fight the conservative oppressors.

There are cis women who get it that trans women are women, and realize that some of our issues are their issues, and welcome our help in tackling the issues of importance to them.  There are cis men who get it that trans men are men, and are forging those needed and necessary ties of brotherhood.

There are politicians who recognize that trans rights are international human rights, and are increasingly moving in various nations, as Canada will emphatically demonstrate today, to help pass human rights legislation and policies that protect our human rights and allow us to be the persons we are.

Image result for parents of trans kids
The best ones we've gained so far are the Mama and Papa Bears, the parents of trans kids.   When you peeps started attacking their kids, you brought them into the fight.

You also got peeps who were sitting on the fence on our side because you made the tactical mistake of attacking kids, and it made you transphobic conservafools look like the mean bullies you are

We have also seen the timely and much needed increase of trans masculine leadership, and especially the rise of trans masculine and trans feminine leaders of color.  We've also seen an increase in progressive church folk willing to step into this fight and say no to their loud and wrong conservative brethren cherry picking scripture to Bible beat people.

Image result for cameron wirth cbs
We've also seen an increase of trans characters in popular culture.   We do need more diversity in those characters including more trans masculine ones.   We need diversity in the stories being told beyond the 'tragic transsexual' meme, an end to cis men playing trans women and giving roles that call for trans women to trans women first.

But the overall trend line from Hollywood is positive.

Image result for tomi lahren and jazz jennings
We are and continue to tell our beautifully human stories whether in written form via books and blogs or in video blogs and documentaries..

activist legalizing freedom ~1985
We've been fighting for our human rights in the modern era for decades and are a lot more politically savvy than the right wing assumes we are.  Ask the lesbian and gay peeps still mad because we backed a skinny Black Illinois state senator with a funny name in the 2008 Democratic primary and then raised $10K for his ultimately successful run to the presidency.

Ask the now former Republican SC state senator who tried to pass anti-trans legislation that was beaten in large part to our trans kids leading the charge

Image result for Geraldine Roman
We have also seen an increase in trans people willing to run for public office.   We have been pleased to see in other parts of the world trans people win election to their national legislatures as Geraldine Roman did last year in the Philippines.

We have more trans folks running for public office at their city, state and federal level because frankly, we needed to.

And the number of people who state that they are friends with, know or have a trans person in their families is growing.

Image result for Trans Pride flag canada map
Like any war, we're going to lose people.  We're going to win some battles and lose some.  But the wonderful thing to note here is that World War T isn't a conservative political blitzkrieg.

This is a war the conservative movement started against trans people that is not only going to be a protracted struggle, but in the end one we transpeople win because we have the moral high ground and are determined to do so.

Yukon Territory Passes Trans Rights Law!

Image result for Yukon flag map
While we're still waiting to see what happens with Bill C-16 as it sits at third reading stage in the Canadian Senate, Yukon Territory became the last Canadian province and territory to pass a trans protective law

After years of advocacy by All Genders Yukon, Bill 5 passed third reading on a 15-3 vote and received royal assent on June 13.

The bill was introduced on April 25 after promises were made prior to the November 2016 election of a Liberal majority government in its campaign materials they would review all laws to ensure they were compliant with LGBT rights.

Bill 5 adds explicit anti-discrimination protections for trans people into Yukon's Human Rights Code and also amends the Vital Statistics Act to allow the change of gender markers without having to go through gender confirmation surgery.

In a Canadian first, it also allows for a gender neutral option on birth certificates to allow to change it later.

“I’m very proud to be able to say that transgender Yukoners now have the same rights and protections under these acts as the rest of their fellow citizens. We support a person’s right to self-determination of their gender identity,” Minister of Health and Social Services Pauline Frost said in a statement after the vote. “The amendments are part of our government’s commitment to support inclusiveness, equality and a respect for diversity in Yukon.”

Now we'll have to see if the Canadian Senate will do the right thing and pass C-16 since now all Canadian provinces and territories protect their trans citizens

Number 13- Rest In Peace Josie Berrios

Image may contain: 1 person, closeup
Once again, we have lost another US trans woman of color to anti-trans violence in 2017, and sadly she is another trans woman of color.

At 6:58 AM EDT Tuesday morning the burned body of 28 year old Josie Berrios of Ithaca was found in the Breazzano Center building under construction at 209-215 Dryden Avenue in the Collegetown area of Ithaca, NY near the Cornell University campus. .

Image may contain: 1 person, closeup
The body had apparent burns when it was found at the scene along with an accelerant in a gallon can of gasoline that was found at the scene.

Today 45 year old Michael Davis was arrested by the Ithaca Police Department at 10:00 AM EDT and charged with two counts of second degree felony murder and one count of felony arson.

According to reports in the Ithaca Voice, Davis was captured on surveillance video wearing an Alpha Security Bureau uniform and carrying a black duffel bag into the Dryden Avenue building.  Another photo was taken with him wearing the shirt and carrying the duffel bag inside the under construction building and exiting the building later without the shirt

That black duffel bag containing a green lighter and the Alpha Security Bureau shirt was found by IPD at 309 College Avenue.  At Davis' residence Ithaca Police allege they found a plastic bag that contained work gloves and clothing with a strong petroleum smell.

Image may contain: 1 person, sitting
He is being held without bond in the Tompkins County Jail at this time.   Davis is also alleged to have had a personal relationship with Berrios at this time.

The IPD is also asking for as part of its investigation into Berrios' death for information from anyone who was walking or hitchhiking along Ellis Hollow Road, Turkey Creek Road or Ellis Hollow Creek Road between 5:45-6:45 AM EDT on Tuesday.

As i get further information about this heinous crime, I'll pass it on to you TransGriot readers.

Potty Man

Texas Lt .Governor Dan Patrick (R) is sure obsessed about where Texas trans people poop and pee to the point he tried with the help of TX state Sen. Lois Kolkhorst (R-Brenham) to pass the reprehensible SB 6 to do so.

We successfully killed it during the regular session, but have to do so again when the Special Oppression Session starts on July 18.

It's been awhile since I've done one of my TransGriot song rewrites, but it was past time for me to satirically slam Lt. Gov Potty Dan with this remix.

Y'all know the drill, find the song in your fave music program and sing along with Moni's remixed lyrics

Potty Man
(sung to the tune of  'Candy Man' by the Mary Jane Girls)

When you wake up in the morning
And you're laying in your bed
Thinking of new ways to oppress us
That's what goes on in your head

You're the meanest (Potty Man) man I know
And the whole world knows it's so
It's time for another election
November 6 you've got to go

(chorus)
Ooh Ooh, Ooh Ooh
Dan Patrick is the Potty Man
Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh

Ooh Ooh, Ooh Ooh
He's a despicable Republican
Hey Hey

Potty man
Potty man
Ooh hoo

When you wake up in the morning
And oppression's on your mind
You just call up Lois Kolkhorst
And she eagerly found the time

You're the meanest (Potty Man) man we know
We Texans thought we'd tell you so
Don't want you as Lite Gov forever
November 6 you've got to go

Ooh Ooh, Ooh Ooh
Dan Patrick is the Potty Man
Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh

Ooh Ooh, Ooh Ooh
He's a despicable Republican
Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh

Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh
Yeah yeah he's the, he's the potty man

Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh
Cause he's a Republican
He's a Republican

Let me pee, let me pee (Let me pee, Let me pee)
In the bathroom that I need to
Let me pee, let me pee (Let me pee, let me pee)
That I would really love (love, love)

Stop attacking trans kids, baby

Potty man
Ooh
Potty man

Potty man
Potty man
Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh

Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh
Dan Patrick is the potty man, oh, oh, oh
Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh
Cause he's a Republican

oh oh oh oh oh oh ooh Ooh
Dan Patrick is the potty man
oh
Cause he's a Republican

I want you to leave
Leave Texas trans peeps
Leave Texas trans peeps alone, baby
Stop oppressing
Stop HB 2899 baby

Stop oppressing
Stop attacking Texas transkids, baby

Third Annual Jamaica Pride Happening August 1-7

For the last two years we at BTAC have been exceedingly proud to note that our BTAC fam includes two people from Jamaica and Brazil, and we hope it continues to expand across the Diaspora at #BTAC2018.

Our award winning Jamaican BTAC brother Neish McLean is part of J-Flag, TransWave Jamaica and on the organizing committee for their pride event.

It would surprise many in the US to know that since 2015 Jamaica's TBLGQ community has held a pride celebration during the island nation's Emancipendence Week.   There's also another pride event that happens later in the year in Montego Bay.

Emancipendence Week celebrates the ending of slavery on the island in 1832 by the British and the nation's independence Day from Great Britain on August 6, 1962.

Something else that will be celebrated during Emancipendence Week from August 1-7 will be the third annual Jamaica Pride week to celebrate LGBT life and culture in Jamaica, the Caribbean and the Diaspora.

The two previous J-Flag sponsored events have been incident free, and the organizers not only strive to keep it that way, this year they want people from across the Diaspora and the Caribbean to come to Kingston and witness #PrideJA2017 for themselves.

Big Freedia, the Queen of Bounce is heading there from NOLA to be there for the event.

The weeklong #PrideJA2017 schedule of events kicks off on Tuesday, August 1 with a Sports Day and Lyme   Lyme is Caribbean slang for hanging out and chilling with your friends.

Wednesday August 2 is Open Mic Night and the start of the two day inaugural Pride JA Conference that concludes on August 3.    Also happening on Thursday August 3 is the Pride JA Concert

If you're wanting to attend the Pride JA Conference and submit abstracts and panels for it, they are due on June 25.  Information on how to do so can be found here.

Friday August 4 is the Day of Service, in which beautification projects and the feeding program will take place along with the Movie Night and Bonfire.

Saturday August 5 is the Wellness Walk and Health Fair, followed by a Black Tie Event that evening.

Sunday August 6 is not only Jamaican Independence Day, but the day the Family Picnic happens

Pride JA 2017 concludes on Monday August 7 with a Breakfast Party-All Inclusive Event.

That's the current schedule, and as the date gets closer to it happening, I'll keep you TransGriot readers updated about this third annual pride event that continues to make and write TBLGQ history in Jamaica and across the Diaspora.

The J-Flag sponsors, partners and organizers also hope this event continues the ongoing process of opening hearts and minds on the island as they build pride in being Jamaicans who just happen to be LGBTQ people.
