Silicone Pumper Padge Windslowe Sentenced

In the latest update on the Padge Windslowe pumping case, she was found back in March guilty of third degree murder for the February 2011 death of Claudia Aderotimi

The 20 year old Aderotimi flew across The Pond from London to get he derriere enhanced by the self proclaimed "Michelangelo of Butt Injections' but the pumping procedure went horribly wrong.

The silicone from the pumping injection traveled through Aderotimi's system and caused her death according to the medical examiner of a pulmonary embolism several hours later.

Windslowe has expressed remorse for Aderotimi's death and was facing 20 to 40 years in prison for the conviction.

She was sentenced to 10 to 20 years in prison for it and the 42 year old Windslowe will be eligible for parole in 7 years.

RuPaul Says He Wouldn't Have Dropped T-Word Slur From Show

Seems like RuPaul still hasn't learned anything from all the drama that was unleashed last year when his RuPaul's Drag Race show was forced to drop the t-word slur and the equally offensive 'You've Got She-Mail' catchphrase from it by LOGO TV.

In a June 3 interview with The Guardian, RuPaul said that he wouldn't have dropped the problematic phrases reviled by the majority of the trans community,

RuPaul said in that interview: “I would not have changed it, but that’s their choice. Our intention was always coming from a place of love. On paper, you cannot read intention, so it was actually hurtful."

RuPaul, when a majority of a community tells you words are hurtful slurs, if you love and respect the community as you claim, you respectfully listen to what they have to say and don't fracking use them.

Allegedly coming from a 'place of love' doesn't give you a pass for you to disrespectfully ignore the wishes of the people that emphatically tells you NOT to do it, then use your predominately white gay male fanbase as a human shield to deflect the criticism that will inevitably come your way.

At least you admitted the words were hurtful, and that's a start.  But still not going to watch Drag Race.

Media Peeps, The Trans Community Has A Flag- Please Use It!

Today is Flag Day, which celebrates the day the American flag was adopted by the Second Continental Congress in 1777.

I've written some posts that have implored the TBLG community to ensure that when we have human rights events and protests, we include Old Glory in them along with our group flag to send the message that we are citizens of this country that deserve to have our human rights respected and protected.

The trans community since August 16, 1999 has had the pink, blue and white flag representing our community .   It was created by Monica Helms and first flew in the 2000 Phoenix pride parade.  The original Helms trans pride flag is now housed at the Smithsonian and ever since its creation has slowly grow to become an internationally recognized symbol for our community and international human rights movement.

While we recognize the LGBT rainbow flag, and we trans peeps have no problem when we are working intersectionally or in community with our GLB allies flying, marching under or displaying the Baker flag, it is irritating when we have a trans themed event to have the Baker flag and not have the trans pride flag prominently displayed.

Monica Helms noted the same thing in a February 25 comment on her Facebook page.
I have seen several web-based media groups writing about the multitude of situations where trans people are murdered, states voting on anti trans bills or the new Secretary of Defense saying that trans people should serve in the military. Invariably, the writers of the articles, or their editors select the first picture that comes to mind, a picture of a rainbow flag.
Excuse me! We may be part of the LGBT group, but we have our own flag and our own colors that represent us specifically. The Transgender Pride Flag has been around for 15 years and there are thousands of photos and drawings that have our colors or our flag. The original flag is even in the Smithsonian. If you are trying to show us some respect by pointing out the hatred others have towards trans people, then why not show us some respect in the photos you select for the article? Is that too much to ask?

File:Transgender Pride flag.svgIt also irritating to see an article that is primarily about a trans person or a trans issue have a graphic that superimposes the rainbow flag and not the trans pride one.

I'm going to repeat the same question Ms. Helms asked.   If you are trying to show us some respect by pointing out the hatred others have towards trans people, then why not show us some respect in the photos you select for the article and include our flag in them?

The trans community has its own flag media peeps.  Please use it in articles or graphics that you create pertaining to my community.

2015 FIFA Women's World Cup Team USA Watch-Great Start In Winnipeg

The 2015 World Cup has completed its first week and Team USA is off to a great start in Group D play after getting positive results in their matches with two FIFA top ranked opponents.

They beat number 10 ranked Australia 3-1 and held number 5 ranked Sweden to a scoreless draw that has them atop the Group of Death with 4 points.  Australia has 3 points thanks to their win over Nigeria, and Sweden has just two after draws with Nigeria and the USA.

Now they head to Vancouver, where they wish to be playing on July 5 for their final group match against Nigeria Monday.   While the Nigerians are only ranked number 33 in the world, the Super Falcons have several players from their U-20 squad that finished as runner ups last year to Germany.

But after getting through their two toughest opponents in Group D, Team USA will be focused on getting the points they need to win the group and clinch their spot in the knockout round.

We'll see what happens at BC Place on Tuesday, but one thing that definitely needs to happen for Team USA is they need to score more goals while playing that defense they played in the second half against Australia and the entire game against Sweden.

Boston LGBTQ Activists Of Color Protest Holds Up Pride Parade

Boston Pride Parade protestors and allies pose before the parade #WickedPissed Photo: Boston Pride ResistanceBeen talking about the fact that far too often, the LGBTQ community in its public face and in the folks that get paychecks to be 'professionally gay' as demonstrated in the HRC internal report, are overwhelmingly white gay male  with an occasional white lesbian thrown in.

Bi and trans people?  Even rarer, and rarer still in those ranks are LGBTQ people of color.

In Boston, LGBTQ people of color got #WickedPissed about it and decided to do something to highlight and draw attention to the problem.

A dozen TBLGQ activists and our allies sat down at the corner of Boylston and Charles Streets in Downtown Boston yesterday and halted the 45th Boston Gay Pride Parade for 11 minutes.

The 11 minutes they chose to delay the parade was for the eleven trans people that have been murdered in the US in 2015.  A statement was also released prior to the sit in that noted the success of bringing same sex marriage to Massachusetts while failing to respond affirmatively to the murders of trans women of color.

Some of the early trans murders that got attention, like the Chanelle Pickett and Rita Hester cases, happened in the Boston area and involved trans women of color.  Hester's 1998 murder, which is still unsolved, was the catalyst for the Transgender Day of Remembrance.

"We are a group of Black, Latin@, Asian, and white people, queer and trans allies who are interrupting this annual party to declare that all our struggles are interconnected. We won’t wait for the advances of the most privileged of our community to trickle down to the rest of us. We live in a society that has declared war on Black people, women, immigrants, trans people, poor people, and—at the intersection of all that—trans women of color. It is the duty of the entire LGBTQ community to stand united and prove that all of our lives matter,” read part of the statement.

Embedded image permalink
The statement also made demands of Boston Pride to diversify its all white board (gee, that sounds familiar) adjust the parade route to include communities of color, adjust fees so smaller non-profits can march in the parade, and stop prioritizing corporations with a record of bringing harm to communities of color

Daunasia Yancey, Boston Black Lives Matter Leader, is interviewed at the protests. Photo: TRT/Alex ManciniDemands were also made of the Boston LGBTQ community that called in the statement for more LGBTQ leaders of Color (including Transgender individuals of Color) in senior management positions at LGBTQ organizations, more resources to support LGBTQ organizations of Color, inclusion of transgender specific medical care in MassHealth and asked for an intentional efforts by the larger Boston community to acknowledge and do more to respond to racism in the city.

Will there be progress in Boston as a result of this protest?   That remains to be seen, given the historical anti-trans attitudes that arre embedded in elements of the local LGBT community.

Some of the most notorious TERF's in Janice Raymond and Elizabeth Hungerford call Massachusetts home, and a bill to fix the unjust trans rights law that didn't include public accommodations when it passed in July 2012 is mired in the state legislature.

So it remains to be seen if the protest manifests itself into real gains for the trans community of color in Massachusetts.

Why Y'all Tripping About This Crucifixion Actor, Brazil?

According to Brazilian news outlet O Globo, Beleboni appeared crucified on a parade float in order to call attention to what LGBT people suffer in Brazil, drawing parallels to Jesus' suffering on the cross.Brazil is a nation that has some interesting contrasts and contradictions when it comes to its trans citizens.

It has a medical system that coves trans procedures including genital surgery, but doesn't protect their human rights nationally.  You see trans models in publications and on catwalks during Rio Fashion Week, but ordinary trans Brazilian citizens are brutalized and murdered.

To highlight those contradictions, trans actress Viviany Beleboni for a gay pride event that happened in Sao Paulo on June 7 asked special effects makeup artist Dennis Dal Ballo to do makeup simulating Jesus Christ's crucifixion wounds before she climbed aboard a parade float with a sign above her head saying 'Enough of Homophobia' .She said the crucifixion wounds symbolized the persecution and suffering Brazilian LGBT people suffer.

File:Map of Brazil with flag.svgWhile Beleboni and others saw it as a free speech issue, prominent local pastor Marco Feliciano had a problem with it, claiming it 'went too far'

The LGBT groups in Brazil said otherwise, and backed up Beleboni with Facebook pages supporting her parade appearance and her right to do so in light of the fact that Brazilian soccer superstar Neymar and other have appeared in photos showing them as crucified without comment from Brazilian religious leaders

So this round goes to Ms Beleboni and the Brazilian TBLG community.

El Salvador Trans Activist Murdered

As I like to remind you peeps on a regular basis about, trans rights are an international human rights issue.

I also need to point out that the US and Brazil aren't the only nations in which we have had an obscene number of trans women murdered inside their borders.  They happen in Central and South America, and in 2015 alone there have been seven killed in El Salvador this year that we will be unfortunately reading their names at TDOR.

Being a trans activist is tough to begin with, but in some parts of the world you are literally putting your life on the line when you do so.   The seventh trans person killed this year in El Salvador is a concrete example of that.

She is 29 year old Francela Mendez Rodriguez.  She has been a member of the Salvadoran trans advocacy group Colectivo Alejandria ever since it was founded in 2010.  She has not only worked tirelessly in her nation to advance the cause of trans human rights in El Salvador, she has also worked in local HIV prevention programs.

On May 30 Mendez was visiting her friend Consuela Flores Martinez at her home in the town of Sonsonate, 40 miles west of San Salvador when a group of unknown assailants murdered both of them.

It was a murder condemned on June 4 by David Morales, the Attorney For The Defense of Human Rights in El Salvador, and said in a La Prensa Grafica interview, " The LGBT population is victimized by discrimination, rejection and intolerance which can be seen in grave violations of their human rights.

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights also condemned Mendez's murder, and urged the Salvadoran government in a June 8 statement to initiate an exhaustive investigation to be conducted with due diligence, and to prosecute and punish those responsible.

In particular, the IACHR encourages the State of El Salvador to follow lines of investigation that take into account whether the killing of Francela Méndez is related to her work in defense of the human rights of LGBTI persons, or whether it was committed because of her gender identity. The Commission welcomes the message by the Attorney General for the Defense of Human Rights of El Salvador, David Morales, who according to media reports, had requested the District Attorney’s Office to investigate this killing without discrimination, and reportedly stated that the impunity of the killings of trans persons encourages their repetition.

Rest in power, Francela.   May the people who committed this heinous crime be caught and punished for it.
The 29-year-old had been a member of Salvadoran trans advocacy group Colectivo Alejandría since it was founded in 2010, working tirelessly for human rights and in HIV prevention programs. - See more at: http://www.gaystarnews.com/article/leading-trans-activist-murdered-el-savador090615#sthash.Rwezp2P0.10yH9172.dpuf

Don't Go There With Dolezal, Transphobes!

Embedded image permalinkThe Rachel Dolezal kerfluffle has started another national conversation on race with all its complicated layers   It incorporates appropriation.  It hearkens back to the bad old days in which light skinned Blacks, in order to escape the crushing discrimination and cruelty aimed at our people, would pass for white in order to not only get a respite from that anti-Black hatred, but gain better access to opportunities for themselves.

Now what Rachel Dolezal has done is she has flipped the script on passing and that is messed up on many levels.  Unless she does a DNA test that proves she has some African heritage, she is a white woman who not only appropriated our culture, she did so for her own personal gain to get into Howard, as a professor at Eastern Washington University, her position at the NAACP Spokane branch, and used blackface to do it.

It has also shined a light on the bull feces laden concept of 'transracial' at the same time being deployed by some whites trying to justify her behavior.and opened the door to the discussion in the Black community about what Blackness is and isn't.  It has people looking side-eyed at our light skinned brothers and sisters, who already deal with enough crap in having their Blackness questioned and scrutinized.

I say transracial is bull crap because race is not just solely a social construct, it also has a biological component as well.   Transracial is nothing more than white peeps wanting to come up with a fancy new name for appropriation.  They want to have the ability to mimic another racial identity without having to deal with the historical societal baggage that comes with it.

And it stuff gets too real for them, they can always run back to whiteness.  People of color have to play with from birth until death the genetic, sociological and racial hand they are dealt.

By Dolezal faking and shaking about being a Black woman, which no white woman has an inkling about the challenges of and white feminists have repeatedly demonstrated they don't, she has made it harder for the stories of cis and by extension Black trans women to get the media attention they deserve.

Speaking of media attention, she has also by her actions and the media getting wind of it, killed the national discussion building in the wake of the police brutality aimed at Black teens in McKinney, TX.   But maybe that was the intent of the right-wing media that brought this whole issue up in the first place.

The sad thing is that Dolezal didn't have to go to those outrageous lengths to be down with my people.  There are hundreds of examples throughout history of white folks being themselves, and using their power and privilege to become allies helping the African-American community and other communities of color overcome oppression.

And FYI, several of the NAACP's eight founders were white.

It has also opened the problematic door to another discussion that is pissing me off in terms of using this Dolezal situation to attack transpeople and invalidate our sincerely held identities as men and women of trans experience.

Every gender transition is different.  For those of you trying to peddle that false equivalency of what Dolezal did with being transgender and use Caitlyn Jenner's name in vain while doing so, you can stop that madness right now.  Being trans has a medical component to it as the decades of ongoing medical research on transsexuality points out.  Let's not forget that race also impacts a gender transition.

And as that medical evidence is increasingly pointing out, trans women are women, trans men are men, and the genitalia between your legs or your chromosomes doesn't necessarily correspond to the gender identity between your ears.

Unlike Dolezal, a trans person has to have counseling under a certified gender therapist, hormone replacement therapy, other optional procedures to look their gender best, and live in the targeted gender for at least a year before that gender therapist will sign off on you getting genital surgery.

We transpeeps are living our authentic lives, not a script-flipped remake of Imitation of Life like Dolezal was unless a DNA test proves otherwise.

So no transphobes and peeps trying to use this convoluted situation to pump up the BS transracial crap and take a swipe at transpeople at the same time, don't go there.  .

Shut Up Fool Awards-Women's World Cup Edition

The FIFA Women's World Cup kicked off the expanded 24 team field with group stage matches at several sites across Canada.

Team USA has a chance tonight to punch their ticket to the Round of 16 with a win later tonight in Winnipeg while the host Canadians have a little more work to do to get there after their draw with New Zealand last night.

In addition to Team USA playing tonight, it's Friday, and that means it's time for this week's edition of the TransGriot Shut Up Fool Awards,

It's time to decide what fool, fools or group of fools are exhibiting championship level ignorance, get red carded for arrogance, and yellow carded for stupidity.

Honorable mention number one is Rachel Dolezal.   Unless a DNA proves otherwise, she's a white woman who appropriated Black culture and misrepresented herself as a Black woman for her own personal gain.   This sensationalist conversation blew a needed conversation on police brutality aimed at Black teens off the front pages  and, has also derailed the conversation happening on trans issues.

Honorable mention number two a group award for Keith Ablow and FOX Noise for get this, blaming President Obama for a white McKinney. TX cop aiming police brutality at Black teens.||

Conservafools, please.

Honorable mention number three is Anne Lamott, who let loose a transphobic comment aimed at Caitlyn Jenner fly that demonstrated her profound ignorance of trans lives an increasing medical evident that genitalia doesn't neatly line up with the gender identity between your ears.

Honorable mention number four is Ben Carson for continuing to channel his inner Uncle Ruckus and say more stupid stuff to enhance his 2015 SUF Of The Year candidacy.

And FYI Uncle Ben, contrary to your ignorant ill formed opinion, LGBT rights are international human rights.

Pastor Steven Anderson (YouTube)This week's shut up fool winner is Arizona hatemonger (he doesn't deserve to be called a pastor) Steven Anderson. who is praying for Conservagod to rip out the heart of Caitlyn Jenner

But Anderson, who has also prayed for the death of President Obama nnd called for the extermination o f LGBT folks  professes to love people.

yeah right, you faux faith based hypocrite.   Have several seats at University of Phoenix Stadium and shut the hell up, fool

2015 FIFA Women's World Cup USA Watch-Next Up Sweden

Team USA got their redemption campaign off to a great start with a 3-1 over Australia on June 8 thanks to two goals from Megan Rapinoe.

It added to a great day in which Nigeria forged a come from behind 3-3 draw with Sweden that left the Red White and Blue atop the 'Group of Death' with the crucial 3 points for the win..

They can clinch a spot in the Group of 16 stage with a win tonight in Winnipeg and Australia and Nigeria coming up with another draw.

However, they will have to get past FIFA number 5 ranked Sweden and their old coach Pia Sundhage to make that happen.

Should be a fun and interesting match, and me and the American Outlaws swarming Winnipeg right now hope that we get that win or no worse than a draw.

We'll see in a few hours.

What's Isis Doing?

... photo isis king isis king attends the 23rd annual glaad media awardsThe last time I wrote anything on the blog about my sis Isis besides her birthday shoutout posts, I was discussing the quality time I spent with her when her movie Hello Forever premiered during our WorldFest film festival here in H-town.

Since then it has been pretty quiet for the woman who first exploded into our collective conscience when she became the first out trans contestant on America's Next Top Model in 2010.

She subsequently walked runways, designed a collection in which she held a show for, spoken at college campuses on trans issues, sand has made some apperances in the New York area.

But just as she decided to take a little me time and cut back on some of that public schedule, Janet Mock and Laverne Cox gained attention.    With Geena Rocero coming out last year and the Barney's Campaign featuring trans models along with the rise of Andreja Pejic and Lea T, the time was right according to her publicist Leigha Hagood for Isis to reintroduce herself to mainstream America and remind folks she's still here.

Isis is not only ready to get back into the modeling world, she also ready to make some moves in her acting career according to Hagood.

And it couldn't happen to a nicer person.   So looking forward to seeing what the next chapter in Isis' life looks like.

TERF's Have Zero Say In Defining My Black Trans Life

I got to see the transphobic piece of TERF trash written by Elinor Burkett for the New York Times (which I refuse to link to) and have held my tongue for a few days to process that waste of bandwith op-ed that has been seized on by transphobes who want to get the anti-trans hate on.

People have asked me my opinion about what she wrote. so here goes.

I have zero respect for people who hate me and my trans community and wish to oppress it by any means necessary.

I have zero respect for another Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist white woman who makes it clear in another published screed she never has and never will know what being trans is like, arrogantly thinks she has the power to define us and uses her privilege and media access to demonize and oppress trans people.

I'm also beyond sick and tired of being sick and tired of media outlets repeatedly giving white TERF's space in their publications to publish these so called contrarian pieces that are barely disguised TERF anti-trans hatred.

Burkett, Burchill and everyone else in TERF World want to keep ignoring the fact that despite trans exclusionary radical feminism's unrelenting 40 plus year failed effort to morally eradicate transsexuality from existence,  and still we trans feminine women rise.

That rise is being led by trans women of color sick of their words that translate into death, pain and misery visited upon our trans ranks.   And contrary to what your vanillacentric privileged TERF egos may tell you, you don't get to define the parameters of trans womanhood and what terrain the discussion will be held on, we trans women do.

The other thing that has pissed me off about this whole ongoing Caitlyn Jenner discussion is that  unless it has happened and I've missed it while handling some personal business, I have yet to hear the voices of cis non-white women in this media conversation.

When it comes to what feminists are thinking about trans women, I will take my cues from people like Melissa Harris-Perry, Kaila Story and Brittney Cooper just to name a few along with other thoughtful Black cis women who know that we Black cis and trans women have far more issues that unite us than divide us.

Both Black cis and trans women are also aware that Black womanhood has been under attack for four centuries, and it is in our mutual interests to end that demonization of Black femininity.

It's also in our mutual interests to jointly hammer home the point to the Black community that if #BlackLivesMatter, some of those Black lives that matter are also Black trans lives.

It does not help our community when Black trans people are facing 26% unemployment.   We Black trans people need to be in a position to whee we can not only make a decent living, but be in the position in which we can contribute our talents to uplift all African-Americans.

And that needs to happen sooner rather than at some future date.

It is also in the mutual interests of Black cis women in the spirit of Black lives mattering to speak up against the attacks by white TERF's on the femininity of their trans sisters.  They need to drive home the point white women do not speak for Black women when it comes to discussing the parameters of what femininity is, and especially what Black femininity is.

One of the things that has helped me the most in my own ongoing evolutionary Black feminine journey is to have Black cis women in my corner who understand that trans women are women.   They have let me and other Black trans women know in no uncertain terms that I and other Black trans women are their sisters.

And the cool thing about that is we continue to have dialogue about what sisterhood between Black cis and Black trans women looks like in practice.

You TERF's don't get to in your loud and wrong terms slime trans women because you have never walked a nanosecond in our pumps.  Neither do you as white cis women know what it is  like to be a non-white cis or trans woman because race impacts our transitions and our trans lives.

But non-white cis women are intimately aware of that intersection of race and femininity, and have more than a clue about what it's like to be hated for who you are for existing on Planet Earth in a Black feminine body. .

So no TERF's, you have zero say in defining my Black trans life.  I and other trans women of color thought leaders do.

Dallas Silicone Injection Death Ruled Homicide

Wykesha Reid was found dead inside a Dallas beauty salon in the 3800 Block of East Side Ave.on February 19 after visiting it for an appointment the previous day have her butt enhanced.

On Tuesday, the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office announced the 34 year old Reid died of pulmonary silicone embolization associated with cosmetic silicone injections.

Denise Ross (L) and Jimmy Clarke (R) mugshot (source: Dallas Police)43 year old Denise 'Wee Wee' Ross and 32 year old trans woman Alicia Clarke were initially charged with practicing medicine without a license in an unrelated case of a 27 year old woman who paid $200 to have injections done by Clarke and Ross on February 9 at that East Side Avenue shop.
.
The woman told Dallas police she was escorted to a back room by Clarke, told her to remove her pants and get on a massage table.   She attempted to ask questions about the procedure, including what was in the injections, but "was not given a good explanation," the documents say.

The client said Clarke and Ross sanitized her buttocks and began the injections.

The woman said she was injected with a total of seven syringes that were left in for the duration of the procedure, and that she "felt intense pain and was told to be quiet after screaming in agony." The injection holes were closed with Super Glue and cotton balls.

This woman later identified Clarke and Ross in a photo lineup.

Clarke and Ross are now facing murder charges in Reid's unfortunate death.  As this case develops, will keep you TRansGriot readers apprised of what's happening in it.

Happy 45th Birthday Ruby Corado!

It's time for another TransGriot birthday shoutout, and today is the 45th birthday of the amazing executive director of Casa Ruby, the fabulous Ruby Corado Walker.

She was born on this date in El Salvador, but has called Washington DC home for over two decades, and is as proud of living in that city as any native Washingtonian.

I not only enjoy the time I get to spend chatting with her and her hubby, but it's also been gratifying to watch her make her dream come true of building Casa Ruby into a full service center for the DC metro area.

And much props to the new LGBT transitional house I'm looking forward to getting to see the next time I spend some quality time inside I-495.

Happy Birthday Ruby!   You've overcome a lot of challenging circumstances to become the fabulous person you are and I'm blessed to have you in my life as a friend and sister in the trans human rights struggle.

All the people whose lives you have positively impacted or you serve as a role model for would agree.

Laverne Cox To Be Immortalized In Wax By Madame Tussauds

Laverne CoxAnother day, another historic trans first for Laverne Cox.

Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum in San Francisco announced that in honor of Pride Month, she would become the first transperson ever turned into a wax figure.

Her wax figure will join those of George Clooney and Leonardo DiCaprio on display at Madame Tussauds San Francisco in Fisherman’s Wharf and debut during the San Francisco Pride press conference on June 26.

Is Laverne excited about it?  Yes.

“When I think about being who I am, a black trans woman from a working class background raised in Mobile, Alabama, this honor feels even more improbable and extraordinary,” said Cox in a statement. “I hope that this will be a source of inspiration for every one who encounters it to believe that their dreams matter and are possible.”.

And so do I Laverne.   Congrats on another groundbreaking honor.

AMA: No Medical Reason To Exclude Transpeople From US Military

There are according to a Williams Institute study an estimated 15,000 trans people in the US military.   In my time in this community I have met or currently know people who have honorably served or are currently serving in all the branches of our military.

Some of those military vets have become some of the trans community's most respected leaders.

But unlike our LGB brothers and sisters, we cannot serve openly because Don't Ask Don't Tell unfortunately still applies to us.

However, there has been some positive momentum toward open trans military service.  In addition to out military trans people like Army Sgt Shane Ortega who is openly fighting for his right to serve, there are organizations like SPARTA who are along with our allies fighting to ensure these archaic non scientifically based policies are eradicated. .

On June 4, the US Air Force stated that neither gender dysphoria nor self-identification as transgender are grounds for discharge.

Today the American Medical Association House of Delegates at their annual meeting in Chicago unanimously approved a resolution that states there is no medical reason to exclude transgender people from the US military.

It also calls on those trans military members to receive care according to the same medical standards that apply to all other military personnel.Four former U.S. surgeon generals issued a statement during testimony on the issue this weekend at the AMA meeting here in Chicago urging the AMA to take a stand.

“Transgender service members should, as with all personnel, receive the medical care that they need,” former Surgeon Generals Drs. Joycelyn Elders, David Satcher, Regina Benjamin and Kenneth Moritsugu wrote in their statement released by the Palm Center research institute.

Looks like we are getting another step closer to the day that trans people in the United States, like their counterparts in 15 other nations, can openly serve their country.

Moni Needs A Helping Hand, Peeps

I was hoping my problem would be resolved before I had to take the step of asking for help, but this is where I am right now.

As you longtime readers know some of the panel discussions and speeches I do are paid events so Moni can pay her bills and have a little money in her purse to live her life.

And if you want to support Moni and hear talk about trans history, transition from a Black perspective and current events in the community, she's available to be booked to speak at your events.

Now, why I'm writing this post.

My lease is up in my apartment and I have to vacate it by the 15th because it is being torn down and renovated.   I was planning to use the speaking fees from two recent events totaling $2500 to help pay for that move, first month's rent in new spot and whatever is owed to my current landlords.

Both checks have been held up for different reasons after I did my part to do the work to earn that money. I have my state rep looking into one of them, and once that has been exhausted, will take it to my congressmember if I don't get a successful resolution with this.

However, that means the money I was expecting and based my plans on is NOT in my hands right now when I need it, and it is causing me unwanted stress and negative ripple effects in my life.

While I have my political reps dealing with that, the clock is ticking on me having to vacate this place, and I need to raise at least the $2500 that's tied up right now until it's resolved.

Y'all know how much I'd rather try to solve my own problems before asking for help for myself, but I don't have any other option at this point.

I have a PayPal button in the upper left hand corner of the blog marked TransGriot Tip Jar, and whatever you can spare is deeply appreciated.

If you can, thank you.

TransGriot Note:  Looking at four to six weeks before I have a  possible resolution for one of the checks..

2015 FIFA Women's World Cup USA Watch-Starting Group Play Today Versus Australia

File:2015 FIFA Women's World Cup logo.svgThe FIFA world number 2 ranked USA women finally get the Group D party started with their opening round FIFA Women's World Cup match against Australia later tonight in Winnipeg.

Group D is considered this tournament's 'Group of Death', because in addition to the FIFA number 2 ranked USA and FIFA number 10 ranked Australia, has FIFA number 5 ranked Sweden and FIFA number 33 ranked African champs Nigeria in the mix in this competitive group.

Only three teams will advance to the knockout round, so one of these four teams will have their dreams dashed.   So getting off to a winning start and getting points in these three group stage matches (3 for a win, 1 for a tie, 0 for a loss) will be critical in surviving and advancing from Group D..

Once the Red, White & Blue (gotta come up with a cooler nickname than this) completes their match with the Matildas, they will face Sweden and their old coach Pia Sundhage on June 12  in Winnipeg and finish up in Vancouver on June 16 against the Super Falcons of Nigeria.

But the road to the July 5 title match starts today, and Team USA will hopefully be at BC Place in Vancouver as one of the two teams playing for the title.

But they have to get past Australia first.

Arrest Made In NYC Trans Subway Attack

Homeless Man Charged With Hate Crime in Attack on Transgender WomanI'm happy to report that an arrest has been made in the wake of last Monday's attack on a 28 year old trans woman who was waiting for a train at the Bleecker St Station.

According to a Reuters report, NYPD arrested on Friday 32 year old homeless man Rolan Reid on the same 6 line the trans woman was attacked

Reid was acting erratically, threw a plastic Coke bottle at the woman, and subsequently shoved her off the Bleecker Street Station platform.

Reid has a history of 28 previous arrests and was spotted on a northbound 6 train and taken into custody at the Canal St. Station.  He had to be physically restrained at the station where he was booked and was taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

Reid has been charged with second degree attempted murder as a hate crime and with various assault charges according to Sergeant Carlos Nieves.

The 28 year old victim of the alleged attack was treated at Bellevue Hospital for her injuries and released on Monday.

Know my NYC trans family will be keeping an eye on this case as it develops.  If  they pass along any pertinent information in it, you TransGriot readers will be made aware of it as well.
