Serena Williams may only be a 12th seed in this year's edition of the Australian Open, but as the other women in this draw know, when she's healthy and playing well she's a threat to win any tournament, especially if it's a Grand Slam one.
Serena didn't waste any time in her third round match with Greta Arn of Hungary. It took her only 59 minutes to blitz through it in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 and move on to her fourth round matchup with Ekaterina Makarova of Russia.
And Williams haters, she's the last American of either gender left in the singles draw of this tournament, so how you like her now?

South Carolina Primary Today
The voters in South Carolina are trooping to the polls today to determine who they think should be their presidential nominee out of the four occupants left in the Republifool KKKlown Car now that what passes for a moderate in the GOP John Huntsman and Rick 'Governor Goodhair' Perry have dropped out.
Adios mofo. You should have left after you got your non-debating butt handed to you in Iowa and New Hampshire.
Ahem, back to the post. Will it be that paragon of marriage fidelity Newton Leroy Gingrich? He's been riding Southern Strategy 2.0 and frothing at the mouth GOP populism to the top of the polls here in South Carolina. But will that lead translate into enough votes to get him a Palmetto State primary win?
Will it be 'Greed is Good' Gordon Gekko wannabe Willard Romney? Willard has seen his once big lead and momentum from a presumed win in Iowa and a big one in his New Hampshire backyard crater under the pressure of Newt's attacks, two uninspired debate performances, more campaign trail gaffes and an oh by the way revelation that you didn't win the Iowa caucus.
Will it be Rick Santorum, the darling of the Religious Reich? The official winner of the Iowa Caucuses is also pimping Southern Strategy 2.0 and thumping that conservabible in an attempt to get that second primary win.
And Ron Paul? I could write a post about why I can't stand his racist libertarian behind, but we'll see how many votes he gets here.
Once the polls close and the votes of the GOP primary faithful are counted, it's off to Florida for their January 31 GOP primary.

2012 Team USA Women's Olympic Soccer Watch- A 14-0 Opening Win
If anyone was wondering how Team USA was going to play tonight in their opening CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament Group B match against the Dominican Republic, they answered that question early.Abby Wambach scored the first of her two goals a mere 37 seconds into the match.as FIFA world number one ranked Team USA got off to a blazing start, raced to a 7-0 halftime lead and added seven more goals in the second half before exiting the BC Place pitch with a record setting 14-0 victory.
The score might have been even more lopsided if it hadn't been for some acrobatic saves made by Dominican goalkeeper Heidy Salazar.
The previous record for Team USA in a CONCACAF qualifier was an 8-0 win over Haiti in 2004
Carli Lloyd, Tobin Heath, Rachel Buehler and Lauren Cheney had single tallies, Heather O'Reilly had a hat trick and Amy Rodriguez came off the bench to score five times in this offensive onslaught that put Team USA at the top of Group B over Mexico, who knocked off Guatemala in the early game 5-0..
While Team USA extended its record in CONCACAF Olympic qualifier play to 9-0-1 and continued its streak of never losing a game on Canadian soil, there was the downside of seeing midfielder Ali Krieger being carried off the field in the 42nd minute after her right knee was raked by the extended foot of Leonela Mojica. After a day off, the defending two time Olympic champions play their second Group B match on Sunday against Guatemala.

January 20, 2013
That date will be my niece's 13th birthday and my other niece will be 19 months old. It will also be the day that we either inaugurate the 44th president of the United States Barack Hussein Obama II for his second term or (arrgh) the 45th president of the United States who will be a Republifool hostile to my community and others I interact and intersect with.
And right now I'm nervous about the prospect of that happening.
It is going to be a long, agonizing, nerve jangling countdown to November 6, and I predict a nasty fall election campaign filled with overt and covert racism coming from the Republicans and the Tea Klux Klan.
No point in me stressing myself out, it's just January. But I'm keenly aware how critical this election is going to be to the future direction of this country, the trans community forward momentum on our human rights issues in our nation and around the world.
I'm also painfully aware of how critical this election is to my nieces future.
In the meantime, on this date, let me just think back to January 20, 2009 when over a million people crowded The Mall on a sunny but cold Washington DC day to watch a skinny kid from Hawaii with a funny name become the president of the United States.
I'm ready to what needs to be done legally to make it happen again.
