Miss Amazing Philippine Beauties 2011

The finals of the 9th annual Miss Amazing Philippine Beauties trans pageant are happening November 19 (today on our side of the International Date line)  as they determine which of the 25 beauties enyered in this year's contest will walk away with the crown, title and prizes.

The pre-pageant competition was held on November 12 and the finals will be taking place at the Manila Film Center

While the Amazing Philippine Beauties pageant since its inception has only been open to transpinays, the mounting frustrations harbored by transpinays over the Thai-run Miss International Queen pageant and the questionable fairness of it boiled over this year.
Rumors are flying that an international trans pageant based in Manila is about to be inaugurated and that transpinay contestants will boycott the MIQ one in 2012..
I'll keep you pageant fans posted on those developments and as soon as I discover who won Miss Amazing Philippine Beauties, I'll post the info.

Good luck to all the ladies entered in the 2011 edition of the Miss Amamzing Philippine Beauties competition, and may the best one win.

It's On Scott Walker: The Wisconsin Recall Effort Begins

On November 15 the recall effort to unseat unpopular Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker commenced with the opponents of the GOP governor needing to gather 540,000 signatures by January 17 in order to trigger a recall election that would be scheduled for March 27 with enough valid signatures.

If there were a primary in either party, that election would be pushed back again to April 24.

In just 48 hours the Recall Scott Walker team has gathered 50,000 signatures and if they can sustain that rate they will have the required number of signatures in 11 days.    Their target is 600,000 so they have a cushion for any that are thrown out.

And for you TransGriot readers in Wisconsin, here's the link to the United Wisconsin page so you can do your part and join in on the fun.

Good luck and may you have much success in recalling and sending Scott Walker back to his life as a private citizen.

TransGriot's NFL Picks-Week 11

Week 11 of the NFL season is here and I'm trying to rebound from my worst week of the season   Some of it was due to upsets, and one was WTF thinking that Indianapolis would finally get a win against Jacksonville.    Um, no.

But the chatter about the 1972 Miami Dolphins and their 17-0 championship season has started since the Green Bay Packers are still unbeaten

The last four NFL teams get byes this week, and one of the football squads getting to chill this weekend will be my hometown NFL team along with the Indianapolis Colts, the New Orleans Saints and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Thanks to that ugly Week 10, I'm back to being tied with Mr Watts, whose Week 11 picks are here

Time to redeem myself    Team I'm selecting to win is on the left, home team in bold print.

Uncle Pat's KKKabin

Just thought I'd provide y'all with another example TransGriot readers of why I can't stand conservatism, and conservafools like Pat Buchanan pimpng white supremacist ideology on the network aiorwaves.

And FYI, here's the Color of Change petition calling for his removal from MSNBC.   he has a right to his free speech and his views.  He doesn't have the right to spew it on the public airwaves.

He can get a gig over at Fox Noise where he'll fit right in as one of the resident Boys in the Hood.

Media Matters has put together videos and transcripts of UnKKKle Pat's greatest hits on MSNBC, and why African American and other POC's want his bigoted azz off the air and over at Faux News where he belongs.

RIP Minister Lois Bates

Received word that another one of our transpeople has passed on.   Minister Lois Bates of Chicago passed away this morning in an area hospital.

As soon as I find out about the homegoing service arrangements I will post them on the blog for people who wish to pay their last respects to her.

I had the pleasure of trading e-mails and chatting with her at various times back in the 2K's but we'd unfortunately never had the opportunity to formally meet despite the fact I was only five hours from her during my time as a Da Ville resident..

There is a story about her on The Body's website that you may wish to peruse in terms of getting to know a little about this remarkable lady who will be missed by all who knew her.

Another one of the people who helped build our African-American trans community has been called home.

Rest in peace, Minister Lois Bates.  .

TransGriot Note:  Thanks Helena Bushong for e-mailing me another story about Lois.   It's a huge loss for the Chicago community and all of us.
