And Then There Were Five

Rut-oh! Bishop Eddie Long has another problem in that the fifth mystery accuser in his ongoing sex scandal has just surfaced courtesy of an Atlanta FOX-5 TV station investigative report.

22 year old Centino Kemp came forward with similar allegations of sexual misconduct against Bishop Long once the initial lawsuits were filed. According to FOX 5 TV sources quoted in the report they say Kemp became involved in the settlement talks as the mystery man. Though his name was never made public, the FOX 5 I-Team learned he may have played a significant role in the mediation.

Bishop Eddie led a controversial December 11, 2004 'Re-ignite The legacy' anti-marriage march in the ATL that drew between 20,000-25,000 people and started at the foot of Dr. King's grave.  Elements of the African American LGBT community (myself included) have despised his behind ever since.

My ire with him was not only for cozying up to the white fundie bigots and doing their dirty work, but his cozy relationship with then president George W. Bush.

What was that they said about karma?

Shut Up Fool Awards-TransFaith In Color Conference Weekend Edition

If you're in Charlotte, NC this weekend, you may want to head over to the Hilton Hotel in University Place and join them for the TransFaith In Color conference that kicks off today and runs through Sunday.

Unfortunately I couldn't be there for it this year, but hope that when the 2012 event roll around Moni will be in the house to meet some of you wonderful transpeeps of color.   It's sponsored by the Freedom Center For Social Justice, and last year's was held in Los Angeles.  .

Okay, now it's time to move on to our weekly Friday business of handing out this week's Shut Up Fool Award.    There were many worthy contenders for this week's honor such as Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX), a group award for Fox News, a group award for the Tea Klux Klan,  Jesse Lee Peterson,  Bryan Fisher,  and Ron Christie     .

But this week's winner is Rep. Joe Walsh, (R-IL ) .

This freshman Tea Klux Klan member of Congress has spent months in front of TV cameras bloviating about the President and the Democrats needing to handle their fiscal responsibilities like a mantra. But when it comes to his own fiscal house, to no surprise he's a conservahypocrite when it comes to his own life.

Walsh owes $117,437 in child support to his ex-wife and three kids and claims he doesn't have the money to pay it, but sure did have enough money to loan his 2010 congressional campaign $35,000 and get paid back $14,200 of it so far.

The man who screams during a video “I won’t place one more dollar of debt upon the backs of my kids and grandkids unless we structurally reform the way this town spends money!”  won't pay up on the child support debt he owes his wife and the same kids he pimps in his talking points as he grins for the cable news show cameras.

Rep. Joe Walsh, shut up foll!

PETA And Racial Appropriation

TransGriot Note: I just had a feeling the editrix of Womanist Musings would be putting PETA on blast for their latest racial hijinks (snicker, snicker) and shady behavior.   And now, Renee's take on it.

PeTA has a terrible record when it comes to marginalized bodies.  From dressing up as the KKK, to employing the slogan "Are animals the new slaves," whenever possible, they have appropriated freely from Blacks. PeTA currently has a new exhibit across from the Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C.
The six double-sided panel display exhibits images of animal cruelty next to images of human cruelty. One panel includes Dr. Martin Luther King’s quote, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” and some images show elephants in shackles and overcrowded conditions for pigs and animals next to images of Blacks in similar conditions.
A PETA spokeswoman told BET.com "that the goal of the exhibit is not to equate nonhuman animals with African-Americans" but "to compare the oppression of certain groups of people in the past to the continued oppression of animals today. It points to the terrible level of suffering that has been inflicted upon various individuals throughout our history and points out some of the cruelty that still goes on in society today. PETA's message is that oppression is wrong, regardless of the race, gender, age, nationality or species of the victims," wrote PETA's communications director in an email. (source)
Uh huh, they didn't mean to refer to African Americans, and they just accidentally chose a quote from an African American civil rights leader.  How can anyone possibly give PeTA the benefit of the doubt given their history of racist actions?  They were absolutely making an analogy to the African American history of slavery and the struggle for civil rights. When Dr. King said those words, he was not speaking animals, he was speaking about the historical state of inequality between Blacks and Whites.

I will not deny that the condition of slaughter houses are horrendous, but the very idea that it can and should be compared to something as horrific as slavery, Jim Crow, etc., is not only racist, it is ridiculous.  By juxtaposing these ideas, they are suggesting that Blacks are the equivalent of animals, a suggestion by the way perpetuated by Whiteness to justify the outright inhuman oppression that they have historically engaged in. I know that biologically speaking we are all animals, but only people of colour have historically been labelled animals to justify White supremacy.

PeTA seems to feel that because their cause is just, that any damage that they do is unimportant.  After all, who could possibly object to wanting better treatment for defenseless animals?  Celebrities jump on board, because this seems like a harmless cause to support, and by doing so, they ignore that PeTA routinely attacks the most marginalized members of society to push their agenda.

PeTA's goal is for humane treatment for animals and ironically, they often behave in the most inhumane manner.  No matter how many times marginalized people have spoken out against their tactics, they continue onward, because for them we are just the othered remnants of society.  You cannot fight hierarchy by perpetuating hierarchy, and this is a lesson PeTA has yet to learn.  Though there are members of PeTA that are undoubtedly of colour, their leadership, like many organizations is White. This is specifically why they refuse to recognize the damage that they have done to people of colour.  If you don't have to face the consequences for your actions, what is to stop you from continuing to harm beyond a personal conscience? This is why I can say without a doubt that PeTA is a white supremacist, heterosexist, cissexist, sexist, organization and anyone who supports them, is not defending the rights of animals, but defending the right to oppress at will.

What We Has Here Is A Fauxgressive Failure To Communicate 3

If you white transpeople (and cis people) wanna hate on drag queens, leave the inaccurate over the top 'it's just like blackface' rhetoric out of it.    That's appropriation of my people's history, disrespectful and not applicable.

Blackface was specifically designed to denigrate, demean and dehumanize African Americans, hence the name for the those performances that started in the 1830's.

I get it some of y'all have problems with drag queens and have a foaming at the mouth hatred for certain types of drag queens.   But just as you hate it when people consider all trans people the same, we have to be just as respectful of the fact that not all drag queens are monolithic in their behavior either.

I'm bringing up this point again because of something that unexpectedly blew up as I was innocently web surfing this morning..  I was reading a comment on Kelli Busey's FB feed concerning this DC Metroweekly article that caught my attention because of the hatin' on drag queens and inaccurately linking it to blackface.

If you read the original article, you'll note drag queens aren't even mentioned.. Now on to the fauxgressive fail.

***

Madisyn Barbosa I hate dragqueens. its blackface for transwomen. the only thing worse that dragqueens are transvestite fetish sick bastards

Monica Roberts ‎@Madisyn...Drag is NOT 'blackface for transwomen'....That's problematic for African American transpeople to mischaracterize it that way.

She repeated the following comment twice.
Madisyn Barbosa Yes dragqueens are blackface for transwomen. they mock . nuff said.

I messed up the comment I meant to post I immediately behind this one and deleted it for revision.  I wanted there to be no mistaking what I was about to say next in response to the double dip of fail. .

Madisyn Barbosa
Okay so its twice as worse.

Mx Tam Pax Do drag kings mock transmen? Or is that something different?

***

And this is the one I intended to follow up her double dip of fail

***

Monica Roberts ‎@No Madisyn...That's your white privilege talking that ignores the painful history of blackface...it's not even close and you wouldn't be saying that BS if you were African American

Monica Roberts ‎@Madisyn...Explain in longer than a sentence, how drag is 'twice as 'worse than blackface'?

***

You know the old saying..give somebody enough rope and they'll hang themselves.  Here's where Madisyn begins to tie the noose and drape it around her neck..

***.
Madisyn Barbosa Im not white. im spaniard. shows how much you judge people by the color... tsk tsk stupid girl.

Madisyn Barbosa
Drag queens do nothing but mock transwomen. dragqueens are a joke and by visual streotype assosiation make transwomen a joke as well. blackface mocks black people just like dragqueens mock us. i stopped going to gay clubs and dragshows long... ago because everyone asked when im performing. im a real person. im a real performer. im a professional bellydancer. i have real talent.since when does caking on clown makeup and lipsyncing to cher and beyonce become talent, its not. its pathetic. pick a damn gender already.

Madisyn Barbosa White priviledge my ass..

Monica Roberts ‎@Madisyn Spaniards are from a European nation, ergo they do exist and are considered white  So who's stupid now?

If you have issues with drag queens, then pull up the big girl panties and hate on them without incorrectly dragging my people's history into the mix

***
Madisyn starts going off the rails about now because it's clear I plucked a vanilla scented nerve...

***
Madisyn Barbosa Youre wrong. not white. take the race card out of yor ass and go show it to someone who cares. did i hurt your duct taped tucked pride? why dont you go lipsync your problems who doesnt think youre a joke. dont hate me becuase im a transwoman, hate me because you dont have the courage to be yourself so you have to crossdress for attention. im too skinny and fine to wear big girl panties...im perfect size 0.

Monica Roberts Blackface mocks, denigrates and dehumanizes a specific ethnic group...therefore it is inaccurate to say that a drag queen performance is 'just like blackface' when there are ranges of drag performances.

Madisyn Barbosa id be upset to if i had your face. but thats the way the world is...the unpassable will always hate on the beautiful...hate away monica hate away...prove me wrong....

Ambalika Williams Sounds like someone is completely ignorant in the drag subculture (queer theory lesson much needed here). Oh and a black history lesson would be wise too.

Madisyn Barbosa I dont need to know jackshit about dragculture or queer lessons im a straight girl. im better than that.

Before I had a chance to blast her on that one...Ambalika beat me to it.....

Ambalika Williams So ur homophobic and you like to talk about issues you don't know jack shit about. Plus you admit it. WOW! Much respect for admitting your total lack of knowledge.

Mx Tam Pax And yet lots of trans people have phases in their lives of exploring their gender in different communities and areas, including drag, cross-dressers, two-spirit, berdache, kathoey, hijra and queer communities.. Sounds like kicking ourselves overall this specific kind of transphobic hating..

Madisyn Barbosa All drag is a joke. i dont care what kind of performers they are. caking on clown makeup and lipsyncing is not performance nor talent. anyone can do it. dont think youre some kind of awesome because gayclubs make you feel like a celebrity when you have no actual talent.

Mx Tam Pax ‎*whoops too much info, y'all can google the terms above to find out more..

Monica Roberts
All you have to do is look at a census form and your own history. Latinos were considered and lumped in with whites until the 70's.

People in the Dominican Republic who hated their African roots emphasized their SPANISH lineage, not their African one...you can check out Henry Louis Gates' recent PBS show 'Black In Latin America' for that one.

And Madisyn, you're proving my initial point about your white privilege. Only those who wield it and bask in its vanilla scent walk around with the arrogance to presume that they don't have to learn anything about other cultures and can appropriate at will.

Monica Roberts ‎@Madisyn...trying to call a Black woman ugly because you are intellectually outgunned by her is another manifestation that you have white privilege....My suitors would dispute your less than scientific impression..

Mx Tam Pax bizarrely sounding like phrases used to beat on trans women now "you think you're a real woman, you're a freak, you're nothing special, you're just a gay man in a dress, you're a pervert wearing too much make-up..." which often leads to violent hate crime..

***

I'm going to skip down to the money post by Jami Ward....

***

Jami Ward
‎"the unpassable will always hate on the beautiful..."
"im too skinny and fine to wear big girl panties...im perfect size 0"
"im a professional bellydancer. i have real talent"
"im a straight girl. im better than that"
"I dont need to know jack...shit "
"hate away monica hate away...prove me wrong"

Ummm...Madisyn? Based on your blurbs above, it would appear that you've done Monica's job for her.

***
Yep Jami, that she did..  As the old rap song goes, she played herself.  The more interesting part is that she's a cis woman spouting all that ish and more than proved my point about the WP she was wallowing in.

But it's just another day of Moni dealing with fauxgressives who don't have a clue, much less don't wanna have a clue.
