2011 Williams Watch-Little Sis Wins In Straight Sets

Watching the Williams sisters at times during this 125th edition of 'Williams'-don reminds me of the 'anything you can do I can do better' song.

After Big Sis took 62 minutes to dispatch her opponent in straight sets, it took Serena 89 minutes to do the same to Russia's Maria Kirilenko, the tournament's 26th seed.   Little Sis won in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 to move on to the fourth round and even uncorked one serve that was clocked at 113 mph while doing so.

If there were any question that Serena was having any lingering issues over the health issues she experienced over the last year, any doubts are quickly being silenced for both her and her elder sibling.

Serena's fourth round opponent as she kicks off her second week of tournament play will be with France's Marion Bartoli, the 9th seed who had a three set battle with Italy's Flavia Pennetta.
.
The drive for her third consecutive Wimbledon Ladies Singles title is still alive, and it's looking like once again with a few breaks, she might have to fight her big sister for it.

GENDA Dies For Fourth Time In NY Senate

Lost in all of the hoopla over the New York Senate finally passing on a 33-29 vote gay marriage and the bill being signed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) was the fact that GENDA, a trans civil rights bill which has advanced by lopsided margins in now four  consecutive sessions only to die in the New York Senate did so once again.

While I'm happy for my gay brothers and sisters and you transpeople who also happen to be gay and lesbian as well that you will be able to get married starting in July, I still have mixed emotions about it when I consider that those same gay peeps who were celebrating in front of the Stonewall Inn have had civil rights coverage in New York State courtesy of SONDA since 2002.

A SONDA bill that transpeople were cut out of

I'm also thinking about the irony as I see the pics and videos of the celebrations in the wake of this happening is that it is occurring on the eve of the celebrations of an event that POC transpeople helped kick off, the Stonewall Riots

Hey, happy for you GL peeps.  But I will say it once again, your ability to get married doesn't do jack for the fact that transpeople in New York state can still be legally discriminated against unless they live in certain urban areas.  GENDA was supposed to remedy that, but once again it died in the NY Senate.without getting to the floor for a vote.

I'll be interested in seeing if during the 2012 NY legislative session GENDA is pushed for passage as hard as gay marriage was in this one by ESPA, Gov. Cuomo, Mayor Bloomberg, and former President Bill Clinton

But I'm not holding my breath on that, especially since 2012 is an election year..

Shut Up Fool Awards-Saturday Sick Day Edition

Sometimes the Shut Up Fool! award winner is so clear cut obvious I know early in the week who is going to get it and will compose the post ahead of the Friday selection date.

Other times it's not so obvious or there is so much competition for it I'm wrestling with multiple contenders until my Friday midnight deadline day, and even them I'll have to give myself some extra time until noon to determine the winner.

Well, because Moni wasn't feeling well, she didn't get around to making that final judgment about who was worthy of a Shut Up Fool Award, and you now get to see the normal Friday post delayed until Saturday.

This week I have to give it to Chris Wallace of Fox Noise.   He clinched it by stating in his interview he conducted with Jon Stewart earlier this week that FOX is no more one-sided in a conservative direction than CNN, ABC, NBC, the New York Times and the Washington Post are in a liberal direction.

You're kidding right?   In what delusional world do you live in Chris?    Name one journalism award that FOX Noise has ever won in its sad, sorry propagandizing history?

You are part of a network that has been caught reading GOP press releases on air verbatim and posting them on their website with typos in the same spot as the press release.  If there is a crackpot theory debunked by legitimate news sources that needs to be pimped, GOP or conservafool talking points that need to be repeated or race bailing to be done, you on the network that champions it.

Fair and balanced my anus.

Chris Wallace, you're a disgrace to the journalism profession.   Shut up Fool!

2011 Williams Watch-Big Sis Administers Tennis Beatdown

As I continue to remind the peeps who hate on the Williams sisters, never underestimate them when they are playing matches at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

Venus Williams played her third round match yesterday against Spain's Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez, and it only took her 62 minutes to cruise to a 6-0, 6-2 straight set win that finished off the player who sent Jelena Jankovic home in the first round.

Martinez Sanchez is also the woman that Little Sis had some drama with back in the 2009 French Open.

Maybe that was on Big Sis' mind when she broke out the two liter bottle of tennis whoop azz and won the first set in only 27 minutes of work.  She definitely had her 'A' game working as one serve she uncorked on Martinez Sanchez measured at 120 mph.

She had to work a little harder in the second set, which took 35 minutes to complete, but the straight set win moves her to the fourth round and a matchup with Bulgaria's Tsvetsana Pironkova.

Pironkova shocked her and the tennis world last year when as the world ranked number 82 player knocked Venus out of the 2010 Wimbledon quarterfinals.

"Last year, unfortunately I didn't play that well. I don't feel I competed well. Regardless of how I play, I know I'll be competing this time," Big Sis said.

"I'm ready to bring my best game and my best competition. Last year I just got unhappy with how I was playing and I let that affect my game. This year I won't let that happen."
