'Beautiful Darling' Trailer

Here's the trailer for the James Racin documentary film Beautiful Darling.    It's about the short and tragic life of trans actress Candy Darling.  She went from growing up in the Long Island suburbs dreaming of becoming a star to becoming a beautiful blonde independent film actress and the muse of Andy Warhol on the verge of making that dream happen.

She tragically died of lymphoma in 1974 at the age of 29.    The documentary uses a mix of current and past interviews, excerpts from Candy's diaries and letters and vintage videos

I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for it at my nearest multiplex that plays indie films.

Cool! 'Cars 2' Coming

I fell in love with and added to my expansive DVD collection the 2006 Pixar movie Cars.   I loved the backstory with hotshot rookie racecar Lightning McQueen being stuck in the small town of Radiator Springs located a few miles off I-40 on old Route 66.  He was on his way to California and the Piston Cup championship race before he got sidetracked.   He discovers during his time there not only the values of friendship and teamwork, but that life in the slow lane can be enjoyable at times.

Cars 2 picks up in Carburetor County a few years later after Mack has just dropped McQueen off in Radiator Springs after winning his fourth Piston Cup title.    He's now an internationally known racecar, is still dating Sally Carrera and still tight with Mater and the denizens of Radiator Springs.   The invitation comes for him to participate in a three race World Grand Prix race series set up by a billionaire to showcase a new organic fuel he's promoting.

Mater convinces Lightning to enter despite the fact he just finished his Piston Cup schedule and was looking forward to spending some off season quality time with Sally.    She encourages 'Stickers' to go and take Mater with him.

Team Lightning McQueen sets off for the first race in Japan while master American spy Rod 'Torque' Redline is investigating an international conspiracy centered on the World Grand Prix.   The fun begins when Redline, closely tailed by Professor Z's henchcars has to dump his gathered intel on Mater, the first person he runs into at the reception for the World Grand Prix racers.

He had arranged to meet British superspy Finn McMissile to exchange the data at the party.   It leads to Mater being mistaken by British intelligence for Redline, and unknowingly for Mater puts his life in jeopardy as well.   .

Many of the voice actors from Cars are back for this sequel except for the late George Carlin (who was the voice of the hippy van Fillmore) , the late Paul Newman, who voiced Doc Hudson, and the late Joe Ranft who was Red and Peterbilt.

The Doc Hudson character wasn't in this movie, but Fillmore will be with a new voice actor.

There's also some interesting new characters in the Cars 2 story such as British agent Finn McMissile, voiced by Michael Caine, Holley Shiftwell, Prince Wheeliam and Queen Elizabeth II,  Brent Mustangberger, Max Schnell, Francesco and one I'm sure my F1 loving homegirl in Louisville will love, her favorite F1 racer Lewis Hamilton.

Cars 2 is hitting the theaters June 24 next month and I'm definitely going to see this one.

Mothership Landing At The Smithsonian

Funkateers, raise your hands and give a P-Funk salute in the direction of Chocolate City, because the Mothership is about to land in DC.

The Smithsonian is setting up a National Museum of African American History and Culture, and when it opens its doors in 2015 will have The Mothership anchoring a permanent exhibit of African American music.

“I’m about to cry!” Parliament-Funkadelic's George Clinton told the AP from his home in Tallahassee recently. “They’re taking the Mothership! They’re shipping it out! . . . But I’m glad it’s going to have a nice home there.”

It's not the original one I and legions of Funkateers who attended their shows got to see in concert when it first took flight in 1976, it's a 1200 pound replica built in the mid 90's.   The original one got sold by Parliament-Funkadelic's Washington based tour management company to a Prince George's County scrap yard in 1982 to satisfy the mounting debts piled up by those extravagant P-Funk Earth Tours and the Funk Mob legally fighting each other.

What happened to the original Mothership is urban legend territory now, but if it's intact, it's worth a lot of money.

The replica Mothership was donated by Clinton and is now safely ensconced in storage until the 2015 opening of the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Also slated for display in the museum's collection are Louis Armstrong's trumpet, James Brown's stage costumes and Lena Horne's gowns.

The museum will be located and built on a five acre site adjacent to the Washington Monument that is bounded by Constitution Avenue, Madison Drive, and 14th and 15th streets N.W., with construction to begin in 2012.

But don't be surprised people when you see a long line of P-Funk fans like myself waiting for the opening of the museum and some of us are chanting P-funk slogans as we do so.

Saturday Sellout-Alan Keyes

Introducing you to another Saturday Sellout, Dr. Alan Keyes.

Born on Long Island, New York, he has his BA and doctorate from Harvard and was a roommate of William Kristol.   He began his career as a diplomat in 1979 as a protege of  UN ambassador Jeane Kirkpatrick

Keyes defended the Reagan Administration's policy of not imposing sanctions on the South African government as punishment for its apartheid policies.

He was appointed to the United Nations Economic and Social Council and later Assistant Secretary of State for International Organizations

He's run for president on the GOP ticket three times, in 1996, 2000, and 2008 and for the US Senate in 1988, 1992 and 2004 when he got trounced by then Illinois state senator Barack Obama .   That probably explains why he has his hate on for President Obama.

Keyes was an enthusiastic birther who filled a dismissed lawsuit in 2008 demanding he prove that he was a 'natural born citizen', and was busted protesting President Obama's commencement speech at Notre Dame University in 2009.

Keyes was an Iraq War defender and as an anti-abortion and anti-gay Catholic is an enthusiastic supporter of the Federal Marriage Amendment to the US constitution banning same gender marriage.

The former conservative pundit, talk show host and columnist is on the boards of many conservative organizations such as the Eagle Forum, the Catholic League, and the American Life League.

One well deserved Oreo cookie goes to Dr. Alan Keyes.

Still Here, Harold!

According to Harold Camping, the world was supposed to end today.

Well, Harold it was as I suspected, since you were loud and wrong about your last end of the world prediction in 1994 and hadn't gotten off any of that $72 million that's collecting interest in your bank accounts.

By the way, before you attempt to do another end of the world prediction, turn your Bible to Matthew 24:36

But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

Now I can go back to my regularly scheduled ignoring you.
