Hatemonger Sally Kern Strikes Again

I so wish that Brittany Novotny had beaten hatemonger Oklahoma state Rep. Sally Kern (R-Oklahoma City) last November.   Not only would Brittany be doing a much better job representing the people of HD 84, those folks would have a representative that has light years more smarts and class than Ms. Kern.

Ms. Kern is not just content to piss off the gay and trans communities any more, she now targeting her bigotry at the African American community in the state of Oklahoma.

"We have a high percentage of blacks in prison, and that’s tragic, but are they in prison just because they are black or because they don’t want to study as hard in school? I’ve taught school, and I saw a lot of people of color who didn’t study hard because they said the government would take care of them.”

She also parted her lips to say that minorities earn less than white people because they don’t work as hard and have less initiative.

Really?  You wanna cough up the money for the 246 years of unpaid labor you owe us 'lazy Black people'?  

She made those remarks as the Republicans in the Oklahoma legislature pushed a constitutional amendment designed to wipe out affirmative action programs in the state.   It will be conveniently timed to appear on the 2012 ballot even though no preferences are currently done for jobs, contracts or college admissions in Oklahoma. 

The proposed amendment has already passed the Oklahoma Senate and passed the house on a 59-14 vote with 28 members either abstaining or not voting..

Oh well, the one thing about Sally Kern getting another term in office is that other states can always use her bigoted soundbites as part of their strategy to keep companies from relocating to Oklahoma

Here we go again.    Another Maryland transwoman who is getting transphobia served with her Big Mac.

A security guard is caught on tape at a McDonalds in Langley Park, MD denying use of the facilities to a transwoman.   This incident according to Denise LeClair of IFGE happened in January.

I told a certain Canadian a few days ago her women's team was going down.    While I didn't see it happen during the Vancouver Games, I'm enjoying the fact the Team USA women are now the three time IIHF tournament champions after their 3-2 victory in Switzerland Monday

Maine LD 1046 Update-Testimony From The Father Of ATrans Child

TransGriot Note:  Still keeping an eye on the anti trans bill LD 1046 in Maine, which would circumvent two Maine Human Rights Commission rulings in favor of trans people in the state and  legalize bathroom discrimination against trans people.     One of the people who testified against this bill in the recent public hearing is the father of the trans child the Maine Human Rights Commission stood up for and who Rep Ken Fredette (R) , who was on the Maine Human Rights Commission when that case was heard and voted against it, is trying to oppress.

Here is that father's testimony.

My name is Wayne Maines, I live in Old Town. I have a 13-year-old transgender daughter. In the beginning, I was not onboard with this reality. Like many of you I doubted transgender children could exist, I doubted my wife and I doubted our counselors and doctors. However I never doubted my love for my child. It was only through observing her pain and her suffering and examining my lack of knowledge about these issues did I begin to question my behavior and my conservative values. I learned that the medical standard of care requires parents seek assistance from a panel of experts. We did this and our team of doctors recommended my daughter to live fully as a girl. We cannot turn back now. When my daughter lost her privileges at school and both children and adults targeted her, I knew I had to change and I have never looked back.

When we moved to Maine, it was clear my daughter was transitioning from male to female with us or without us. She used the girl's bathroom with no fanfare; she was confident and very social. Her strong personality helped the entire school transition right along side of her. She was proud and secure with herself and when people asked at the young age of six she openly stated that she was a girl trapped in a boy's body.

The transformation was amazing, but her happiness would not last. Unfortunately the fears of others would destroy everything that our team of doctors, teachers, school counselors, friends and classmates had work so hard to establish.

I know that it is difficult for some of you to understand the needs of transgender children. You only need to spend some time with these kids to see that they are struggling and suffering beyond your imagination only because they are singled out and misunderstood. They are just like your children and grandchildren; they have the same hopes and the same dreams.

In the fifth grade because of significant negative exposure we had to take drastic measures to protect her from harm, including splitting our family up to go in hiding and we are not the only family that has had to do so. When she was told she could no longer use the appropriate bathroom her confidence and self-esteem took a major hit. Prior to this my daughter often said, "Dad being transgender is no big deal, my friends and I have it under control." I was very proud of her. It was only when adults became involved with their unfounded fears that her world would be turned upside down. "She came to me crying and asked, "Daddy what did I do wrong? Daddy please fix this?" That is what dads do -- we fix things. I had to break her heart and say, "You have not done anything wrong sweetie, but Mommy and I do not know how to fix this, but we will try."

Continuing to single these kids out is not necessary. Having the opportunity to use the bathrooms of their true gender is essential for these kids' well being. This bill places transgender children in a position of doom and hopelessness. This bill tells my daughter that she does not have the same rights as her classmates and reinforces her opinion that she has no future. Help me give her the future she deserves. Do not pass this bill.

Canadian Election 2011 Update 4-Record Early Vote Turnout

In what may be a good sign for the Canadian center-left parties such as the NDP and the Liberals , the early voting saw more than 2 million Canadians take advantage of the three day period of advance polling with the May 2 election just five agonizing days away.

In the 2008 Canadian federal elections 1,528,780 people voted early in an election that saw the lowest voter turnout in Canadian history at 58.8 %.

With polls showing the NDP on a historic rise that puts them first in Quebec and second nationally, if it holds they may end up becoming the Official Opposition or if they catch a few breaks may garner enough seats to have Jack Layton become Canada's new prime minister.

Alarmed by the NDP surge, the leaders of the Bloc Quebecois, Liberals and Conservatives have stopped training their rhetorical fire on each other and turned it on the NDP.

NDP Leader Jack Layton noted at a recent campaign event in Winnipeg, "Now, the old parties are spending the last week on the attack, hoping to drown out the voices for change in Canada."

"Well, in the final days of this campaign, New Democrats will launch a few attacks of our own. My friends, I will attack health-care wait times. I will attack doctor shortages. I will attack seniors' poverty. I will tackle the crisis in retirement security."

Too bad there isn't one more debate on the horizon...The last two were fun to watch.  

May 2 is going to be a very interesting and potentially historic day in Canada if the NDP surge continues, and Madame Political Junkie will be watching every minute of it..

WTF does "white wing" have to do with it. It was black girls that did the beating. What a racist thing to say. OBVIOUSLY it isn't just "white wing" opponents. I am sure there are some black, upper level folk out there with the same views and as this video shows there are black people in the general public who feel the same way. The more I read your blog the more I think that you are a racist. This attack has nothing to do with white, black, or whatever. It has to do with humanity.

But at least we're honest about our phobes and call them out.   That's more than I can say for fauxgressive whites like you.

And Veronica my dear, time for a review of Sociology 101.   Racism does not equal to Black person calling out white 'peepul' on their BS as they tell y''all on Faux News, racism equals prejudice plus systemic power..

If I had a dollar (or somebody donated a dollar in my TransGriot tip jar) for every time trolls like you called me a 'racist' because I'm not 'scurred' to call out your vanilla scented bigotry and cluelessness in this blog on a regular basis, I'd be a millionaire.

If the attack had nothing to do with race, then why have we had an avalanche of racist comments aimed at the perpetrators of the crime from cis, trans and gay white people across the blogosphere referring to Teonna Brown in simian terms, denigrating African Americans in general, the city of Baltimore, et cetera?  

Umm hmm...that's what I thought.

About the only part of your comment I agree with is it's about humanity.   Damned skippy it us.   But the white part of humanity has unearned privilege and a consistent pattern that they want to forget of erasing, denigrating and disrespecting the non-white part of it.   The white part of humanity also has a consistent pattern of getting their noses out joint when non-whites call them on their jacked up behavior.

They also have a consistent pattern of oppressing people or groups they don't like for various reasons.

We non-white transfolks already see the difference in your reactions when it comes to a white victim of a trans hate attack versus a non-white one.    Chrissy shares your ethnic heritage, so it stands to reason the reaction would be more gut level intense than had it been the usual pattern of a Black or Latina transwoman being attacked.  

But Vanessa, reading is fundamental.   That first post wasn't even talking about race, it was talking about the bathroom predator meme and was aimed at pointing out the fact cis people commit these crimes.   But in your vanilla privileged mind, because you saw the words 'white wing conservative', you and your critics ASSumed that because this is an Afrocentric blog, it was 'attacking white peepul', and that a balanced piece couldn't come from an award winning proud African American trans writer on this issue.

So what does that say about you?
