Yes Ben Hall, You ARE A Hater

I guess some people in the Ben Hall camp have been reading my blog, because the Ben Hall campaign just put out a weak as wellwater spin filled statement denying that he's hating on the Houston LGBT community.

Let's look at the empirical evidence, shall we Mr. Hall?

You don't support the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance because of two of the 15 categories it covers in sexual orientation and gender identity, and have doubled down on that position at community forums such as the Harris County Democratic Party's Brown bag luncheon.

You went on KUHF-FM's Houston Matters on October 28, 2013 and expressed your opposition to our community with a homophobic caller..  You refused to come to the Houston Stonewall Democrats or the Houston LGBT caucus endorsement meetings.

You signed the Dave Wilson inspired anti-trans petition designed to enshrine anti-trans bigotry into the Houston City Charter and gut the HERO.

And FYI, if your anti-HERO side were so keen on getting the HERO on the ballot and 'letting the people vote', why do we keep busting y'all forging signatures on petitions and trying to skirt Texas election law by any means necessary in doing so?

Besides, we already had a vote on the HERO, and it was in the 2013 mayoral election.  It was a campaign issue asked of all candidates, including you running in that cycle, and by the people we put in the mayor's chair and on council as a result of that election, the people of Houston signaled their desire to have a local human rights law to cover them.

As for your declaration in that statement from your campaign that you are a Christian, well dude, so am I along with many people in the Houston LGBT community.    But the God I serve and the values I have that are informed by my Kingian style faith compel me to fight for the human rights of all people.

That seems to be a lesson that you and your right wing Bible scripture twisting hypocritical friends somehow forgot in your quests for power..

Don't get mad at me, bloggers and activists inside and outside the bi, trans and SGL community, or anybody else for doing our jobs and calling your butt out.   It would  be civil rights malpractice if we didn't warn the people in our community and our allies about your problematic HERO stances and questionable comments about TBLG people.

If you keep lying down with the homophobic conservadogs, you keep getting bitten by their fleas, and we in LGBT Houston will justifiably call your behind out about it.

You seem to keep forgetting that SGL, trans and bi Houstonians also reside inside the 628 sq. miles of Texas turf we call home   And as you found out in 2013 when Mayor Parker thumped you by 30 points and will discover again in four months on November 3, we vote..

We also see the only people being 'divisive' in this cycle are you and your pastoral friends.

Representing ALL Houstonians, Mr. Hall, means representing the interests of TBLG Houstonians. While there may be some issues we agree on like mass transit and possibly others, the non-negotiable condition that our political support for your campaign will hinge on is whether you do or do not support the current LGBT inclusive HERO, and if elected, will you defend it?

Seems like the answer to both those questions is NO.   You have spectacularly failed to demonstrate ever since your 2013 campaign to our community that you are the person for that important human rights job while making some problematic statements along the way

By their fruits ye shall know them, and the fruits we have seen fall from your tree so far in this and the previous 2013 campaign have been homophobic and transphobic ones.

TransGriot Update:  Ben Hall is doubling down on the anti-LGBT hate in his play for the Houston bigot vote.  Had a press conference at 1:30 PM today (July 23) to once again call for enshrining anti-trans hate in the Houston city charter.

Really, fool?  When we are dealing with the Sandra Bland case just up the road in Waller County, you choice in your #BenHallForSome campaign is to gaybait and use the same debunked likes to demonize trans Houstonians for your political purposes?

Dave Wilson Fails Again To Get Trans Hatred Enshrined In The Houston City Charter

As many of you are aware of, last year after a bitter fight we got the trans inclusive Houston Equal Rights Ordinance passed after an 11-6 vote.

The local professional gaybaiters and their kneegrow sellouts promptly went to work collecting petitions to force a HERO repeal referendum.

But they FUBARed the process so badly that the city rejected the petitions, and the spoiled vanillacentric privileged right-wing brats and their kneegrow auxiliaries tried to sue in state court and force the HERO referendum that way.  After losing in state court in April, HERO went into effect.

Meanwhile, longtime hater Dave "I Pretended I Was Black To Get Elected" Wilson was trying another tactic to bring down HERO.   Wilson went to work to collect enough petitions to force a vote to add language to the city charter that attacks the Houston trans community

But Dave forgot that you need 20,000 signatures for a charter amendment petition, and claimed he collected 19,700 signatures.   However, that was short of the 20K threshold, and his petition was denied.

Dave tried again, and took another batch of signatures to City Hall in an attempt to get his transphobic charter amendment on the November ballot, and was once again rebuffed by the city of Houston.  He's now trying to sue, and we'll stay tuned to see if this goes anywhere.

But the end result is that for now, the trans inclusive HERO ordinance is in effect, and transphobic bigots like Dave Wilson and friends provide ample evidence of why it is necessary.

They have yet to get the message that discrimination's time in Houston has expired.

And Houston peeps, can we look into the possibility of kicking Wilson's butt off the HCC board for violating its nondiscrimination policy?

One Of Fallon's WMMA Critics Caught Cheating

As I like to say on these electronic pages, karma not only is a you know what, but she wears a dress and stiletto heels.

Right now I'm pondering the situation of seeing another one of Fallon Fox's loud and wrong transphobic critics get karma's high heeled foot planted squarely in the crack of her behind.

When we last heard about Ashlee Evans-Smith, she was basking in the afterglow of an upset win over my fave women's MMA warrior in the finals of a 2013 tournament and then being a sore winner about it, which Fallon called her out about later.

Evans-Smith parted her lips to say at the time that Fox should be barred from women's MMA because of 'unfair advantages'.
"I don't feel like Fallon should fight dudes," she said. "I don't feel like she should fight women. I feel like there should be a unique organization for those needs. She did have an advantage. She definitely did."
So sayeth the cis woman who just got caught cheating.

Yep, you read that last sentence correctly.   After her December 6 debut in a UFC 181 match that she lost in a first round submission to Raquel Pennington, Evans-Smith tested positive post match for the diuretic hydrochlorizide, which is on the World Anti-Doping Agency's banned substance list.

In addition to being fined 30% of her $8,000 purse, she is retroactively suspended from UFC competition for nine months.  In addition, Evans-Smith will be required to submit to a Nevada Athletic Commission sanctioned drug test at her own expense before she can reapply for a license to fight in Nevada.

Can you say 'hypocrite' boys and girls?   Thought you could.

FRC Hatin' Transpeeps For The Holidays

I should've known better than to ask for as a Christmas wish that we trans women and transpeeps in general get a quiet, transphobia free holiday.

But hey, I had to wish for something other than for myself while sitting on Santa's lap..

So it looks like we'll have another transphobic Christmas in which the haters come out to play and we are already mourning the death of one of our sisters before the arrival of December 25, much less Kwanzaa and Hanukkah.

Bah humbug.i.

Courtesy of the longtime haters employed by the Family Research Council, spokesgrinches Peter Sprigg and Craig James (yes Texas peeps, the former SMU running back mate of Eric Dickerson), parted their lips to propose a constitutional amendment to ban recognition of gender reassignment.

Nope peeps, this is not an Onion holiday headline, these paid haters actually came up with this jacked up idea.

The Transphobic Oppressors proposed this idea during a recent episode of Washington Watch in which James stated that transgender rights issues will have to be the next ones the Religious Reich combats in their 'war against the LGBT community.'

Sprigg then piled on with his suggestion that conservatives may need to consider a constitutional amendment regulating gender identity to being fixed at birth.

Not no, but hell no...

So word to the wise transperson.  Stealth status will not protect you from the evil the conservative movement wants to do to you and transkind.  If you are a conservative identified transperson, better wake up and stop voting GOP because your wallet doesn't trump my human rights.

And it's unfortunately another example of cis folks hatin' on us for the holidays, and why our inclusion in proposed or existing human rights laws is necessary.

On Monday’s edition of “Washington Watch,” James explained how transgender rights issues will likely be the next issue that the Religious Right will have to “combat in this war that we’re on with the LGBT community.” - See more at: http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/frc-spox-proposes-constitutional-amendment-ban-recognition-gender-reassignmenta#sthash.vcpeIBqn.dpuf

Fallon Has A New Fight-With Wannabee 'Advocate' Tamikka Brents

Our fave MMA warrior is now in training for her next fight with 24 year old Tamikka Brents

Y'all know I have much love for Fallon Fox and I'm looking forward to meeting her in person.  I wish the 'Queen of Swords' the best of luck as she gets ready to handle her business inside the octagon on September 13 in Springfield, IL.

And Fallon's probably got some extra motivation to be on her A+ WMMA game with this upcoming opponent after Tamikka Brents flapped her gums and let loose some dog whistle transphobia back on May 25, 2013.

“I am tired of Fox getting all this publicity just for being a transgender fighter rather than having great skills. I think it’s unfair anyway but as long as the opponent knows and accepts the fight then go ahead… I mean Allana took her to the third and she’s not even a 145er; she’s a more of a 135er who can probably go even lower to 125 pounds. She’s using all that attention as a good publicity tactic – go ahead and ride that free publicity train as long as you can. I’ll gladly derail that s#*t quickly so the world can go back to giving the publicity and notice to the female fighters who earn it. It just pisses me off that Women’s MMA has fought to get away from being seen as a side show. She’s using that to further her career while setting Women’s MMA back in the process.”
And this from a woman who claims in a November 2012 Bleacher Report piece she wants to be an LGBT advocate.   Well, she said she wanted this fight with Fallon bad, and she's about to get her wish.

But let me focus on Tamikka Brents' advocacy, or lack thereof.   The only thing you've done is take a rainbow flag a few hundred feet into an octagon twice.   I haven't seen op-eds written by you in TIME magazine, the TransAdvocate, or much less my GLAAD Award nominated blog   I have yet to see you at an National Black Justice Coalition event or do anything in support of the SGL, trans or bi  community.

While you bump your gums in a puff piece about wanting to be an advocate for the LGBT community, Fallon Fox is role modeling it.

So stop hatin'.

And here's your first advocacy lesson, Tamikka.  The 'T' in LGBT stands for transgender.  Without transfolks like Ms. Fox showing up and showing out at Stonewall in 1969 fighting for everyone's human rights including our own, you wouldn't have a movement to consider being an advocate for.

And what pisses me off Tamikka is you piling on Fallon.   She's handled this lemon situation of being outed and the subsequent microaggressive and macroagressive publicity it generated with class and dignity while trying to build her reputation in women's MMA.

She has remained classy as you and several of your women's MMA colleagues like Ronda Rousey, Ashlee Evans-Smith and Allana Jones have been transphobically shady towards her while spouting jaw dropping anti-trans ignorance.

So yeah, looking forward to September 13.

Transphobic Rochester DJ's Fired

Photo: BREAKING NEWS: KIMBERLY AND BECK FIRED FROM 98.9 THE BUZZ

Kimberly and Beck, hosts of "The Breakfast Buzz" on 98.9 The Buzz have been fired.

The station issued the following statement via Twitter, "This morning Entercom fired Kimberly and Beck effective immediately. Their hateful comments against the transgender community do not represent our station or our company. We deeply apologize to the transgender community, the community of Rochester and anyone else who was offended by their comments. We are proud of our past work on behalf of the local LGBT community and we remain committed to that partnership."

Read: http://bit.ly/1nheWIrMedia peeps, if you didn't get the message from Katie Couric's, Piers Morgan's, Wendy Williams' and RuPaul's recent publicized kerfluffles over disrespecting the trans community, can you hear us now?

Was not happy to hear about the former Rochester, NY  'The Breakfast Buzz' 98.9 FM morning team of Kimberly and Beck unleashing transphobic vitriol on WBZA-FM after that city enacted a historic policy that would extend trans health benefits to its employees.

During their Tuesday broadcast they unleashed a 12 minute transphobic tirade aimed at the local transgender community and a local trans feminine trans teen.   After that facts free transphobic rant, they poured gasoline on the fire by playing the Aerosmith song 'Dude Looks Like A Lady'

The rant earned Kimberly Ray and Barry Beck (any relation to Glenn?) an on-air suspension from the Entercom owned station that morphed into a termination.

This from the station's Twitter feed:

"This morning Entercom fired Kimberly and Beck effective immediately. Their hateful comments against the transgender community do not represent our station or our company. We deeply apologize to the transgender community, the community of Rochester and anyone else who was offended by their comments. We are proud of our past work on behalf of the local LGBT community and we remain committed to that partnership."

The unemployed radio team will probably be getting a call from FOX Noise for an interview so they can be paraded around as the latest 'victims' of political correctness'.

Yeah, right.   Before her behind got fired, she defiantly doubled down on her vanilla scented privileged ignorance.

Kimberly Ray, neither are you granted a right to be free from the consequences of your choice of using your First Amendment rights to offend people, especially when you have a 100,000 watt platform to do it from courtesy of your FCC licensed employer.

If you believe that, you've been watching too much FOX Noise.

Free speech does not mean 'I get to say whatever hateful crap I wish about you and you STFU'.   Free speech has consequences.  You are free to say whatever negative crap you wish to say about my community, but you better be prepared to deal with the consequences because we have the same First Amendment rights to call your behinds out on it.  .

And if you haven't noticed, the trans community is not tolerating unwarranted fact free attacks on it any more.

Ponder that while you're collecting your first unemployment check.

Why RuPaul's Drag Race Should Eliminate RuPaul...And Itself

TransGriot Note:  If you think trans people outside the borders of the United States aren't paying attention to Drag Race's use of shemale and the t-word and are fine with it, this guest post by Malaysian activist Yuki Choe will blow that perception up.

She's in her words "a lone transsexual advocate and a vocalist, one who performs without drag."

***

It is now exactly a month since the fateful segment on the reality show Drag Race drew widespread condemnation from the transgender population, and what is deemed as transphobic slurs have since been removed from the show. There are discussions aplenty on where to draw the lines when it comes to terms that are hurtful to transwomen, like “she-male”. Words do count, but not for some who just refuse to understand how much influence words can get, especially specific terms that society usually use to mock transwomen.

Society is too lazy to study Trans 101, and they will eventually pick up information by what they observe along the way. People would look to the idiot box and find RuPaul, a man, in drag. They will reason that transwomen are males who drags like RuPaul. He uses “she-male” like nobody’s business, so there cannot be anything wrong with it. And for RuPaul, all this mash up is no big deal. But, it is. “She-male” is a term that is oft used to shame transwomen into mere sex objects. Such words are meant to demean any womanhood that any transwoman could have. It has all the motivations to humiliate transwomen by reminding them of just how incomplete their lives are with their bodies.

Do we hate him?

We hate RuPaul not because we have internalized transphobia; we hate what the character RuPaul brings to the front. We hate the imagery he represents because it is a caricature in which society determine how to define a transwomen – a she-male, a drag, a shim, a cross-dresser. He turns us into entertainment. He transforms the lives of transwomen into a Howard Stern styled comedy. Many attacked RuPaul for being transphobic, but I really doubt it. He may not even comprehend what the hell the outcry is about simply because he is not really a transgender. He never knew what that means 20 over years ago, and probably never will.

We are called to accept his drag world as a transgender representative, even by GLAAD’s definition of transgender. But he is not. His approach is one of a gay guy who thinks he is doing us a favour. That is the arrogance we so despise. We also cannot stand the fact that he still does not wish to learn from us. He has been ignoring the needs of the transgender population to be addressed with respect for many years.

Talking past each other

Some of the comments I read from the blogs highlighting this controversy, mention about policing of words. That this is transfacism. It is actually far from it. This is about words created to impact a population. Words come with its own definitions. Would a transwomen want to be described with terms bearing male pronouns like “she-male” and “lady-boy”? Perhaps the reason some insist there is nothing wrong with such derogatory words is obvious, is it not? They want to use the word because they feel nothing, but we feel hurt. Words like “tranny“ are widely used to bully children and verbally abuse transsexuals. People who stand by RuPaul just could not relate to that.

The words are meant to harm, which is why one should avoid using it. It has the power to degrade transwomen. It is easy to say we only give strength to the word if we bother about them. It does not work for transwomen. Because lest we forget, we are only less than 1% of the population. These words determine whether we are fit for the next interview to get a room for rent, or be forced back into the closet at churches. To drags and cross-dressers, it is all about dressing part-time or dressing full-time, the mentality is that transwomen are “really” genetically boys, as opposed to the term “genetic girl” when addressing cisgender women.

The point that transgender activists have been trying to say for the past month, is not only confined to that infamous game segment. It has been echoed for years to even the majority straight population – we are not a show, we are not freaks, so stop using media to turn us into jokes. But all this while, RuPaul sees transwomen as only men in women’s clothing, like him. There is not even one moment from him that shows he truly knows what it feels being born in the wrong sex. He parrots the belief that we are all drag queens in the end, and that some of us just decided to go further into hormones then SRS, which is so painfully far from the truth.

RuPaul’s Ignorance

When RuPaul implied about revolution by citing Orwell’s Animal Farm, he is talking about his own “drag queen” revolution that has very little to do with any revolutions that may or may not take place in transwomen’s world, a world that needs protection from the flurry of abuses that are generated by a vastly transphobic generation, and meant to punish transwomen; RuPaul would accidentally be behind another face of his revolution, one that is directly against transwomen.

He does not realize that in defense of words like “she-male”, he shows little understanding of how much damage it would have on trans women, all the while as he removes his makeup and pumped up dresses after shows to be Andre Charles again, with his package of male privileges. For him, it is his art, jumping into womanhood for a while, after being RuPaul for several hours.

But, for tens of thousands of transwomen, it is not an art. It is not an entertainment or a game. Gender Identity Dysphoria is a real condition that affects lives. Transwomen born with it need to transition. Their body mapping must change to accommodate their brain sex, and the intense distress is painful and lifelong. While he sits in his car out of drag, and heads for home after his show, many transwomen would be struggling to hold on to their jobs, and some may even encounter violence. RuPaul can jump out of his drag. Transwomen cannot jump out of their skin and be non-transgender.

RuPaul would expect us to “toughen up” and be “queen”. But we are tough, only not queens. We are simply women, but women who are tough because we have to endure hundreds of hazardous situations he most likely will not encounter even once in his life. And he is not helping. Until this gets into the thick skull of his and every other sympathizers he has, the discussion will not go anywhere.

Visibility breeds stereotypes

And people assume transwomen are “in-drag”. So people would disparage transwomen, and forcefully consider them men. Religious conservatives always lay claim to a “change” of “gay lifestyle” if transwomen want to. And those with lesser knowledge would just brand transwomen as a life choice, and when difficulties arise, sometimes even life-threatening, it is “really” transwomen’s fault because we “choose to drag”.

As transwomen, we wish we could just say to hell with the world. Unfortunately, as a minority at the mercy of a general public who find transwomen useful for tease and ridicule at best (and we do not wish to be reminded what happens at worst), what society think of us does count; it affects our jobs, our insurance, our education, our relationships, everything. And we already have to bear with misrepresentations from religious fundamentalists painting us all as child predators, rapists and fetishists.

Having RuPaul and his show amplifies even more stereotypes of transwomen. We should go even as far as to say he is abetting bullying of transgender children, and encouraging verbal abuse towards transgender people. After all, words are not sticks and stones, right? NOT.

The bigger questions

This is perhaps an appropriate period for us to ponder, what really is transgender now? Should RuPaul be even considered a transgender? While the American Psychological Association includes drag queens in its definition for transgender, many trans people have started to address themselves as transsexual and not transgender, simply because of the disparity in experiences of people born with gender identity dysphoria, and the rest under the transgender umbrella.

Is it not time to correctly address transsexuals as transsexuals and drag queens as drag queens? If we were to say drag queens are transgender, would we not have to include bio queens as well? Or even some animals in drag? Is it not time to consider a more accurate definition of transgender in GLAAD and other trans resources? Should RuPaul even be associated with the “T” still?

Maybe RuPaul is far from transphobic and has the right to use whatever word he wants; but he or any cross-dresser, drag queen, or any men who dresses as women, could and should spare a thought for transwomen afflicted by being born trans.   Unlike them, because any claims of sensitizing society is offset by their own misuse of words that attacks transwomen, the incongruence suffered by transwomen is real.

For transwomen, it is not about dressing, let alone over-the-top with a face buried in tons of makeup and purposely deepening their voices.  We are living our lives.  RuPaul would do well continuing his work, but not at the extent of creating collateral damage on the lives of transwomen everywhere.

Someone should start knocking a hard fact into RuPaul; the difference between a drag queen and a transgender, is that everybody can be a drag queen, even the queen of England. Not everyone can be a transgender, and for those who are unfortunately born transwomen, their lives are problematic enough without being trivialized by RuPaul.

Julie Burchill Is Hatin' Again.

Julie Burchill made the comments below a Vice Magazine articleThere are just times when you just have to call somebody's azz out, and this is one of those times.

Got a little concerned when the TERF's got quiet for a minute and weren't engaged in their usual transphobic hate rants.  But like the conservative movement and the GOP here in the States, you can always count on them to show their asses sooner or later.

The latest eruption of TERF transphobic bigotry came from across The Pond. in Great Britain.

Julie Burchill opened mouth and inserted her foot in it when she said in reaction to a Paris Lees article that 'Transwomen are just big white blokes who have cut their cocks off.'.

That's mighty white of you Julie.  And TERF's like you are just vanillacentric privileged white women pissed off they weren't born conservative white men.   Because you and you fellow TERF's have a lot in common with them and our Republicans..  You all love to gleefully engage in oppressing and denigrating others.

Burchill has a long deplorable history of anti-trans hate screeds our British trans cousins have called her butt out on and engaged in a lot of activism on their side of The Pond to combat.

But when Burchill once again attacked Lees and by extension the British trans community, she tried to have it both ways.  She tried to simultaneously cry White Women's Tears and bemoan the world of retaliatory hurt that was going to come her way in response to her transphobia by trying to claim she's a 'victim' of trans women 'bullying her.'

Yeah, right.  Your jealous, pathetic behind needs to have a makeover, several sections of Wembley Stadium seats and a nice tall Earl Grey tea flavored mug of STFU.

And I'll repeat what I said last January in response to Suzanne Moore's racist and transphobic comment.
As an African-American transwoman, I'm beyond sick and tired of being sick and tired of your racist and transphobic hate speech that is stoking the white hot flames of anti-trans bigotry and discrimination.  It is not only getting transwomen of all ethnic backgrounds killed, but disproportionately ones that share my ethnic heritage.

If you and your TERF buddies don't want to get called out for saying transphobic crap, then don't say transphobic crap in the first place, because we trans women, and especially transwomen of color have zero tolerance for your mean girl schtick.    But Burchill and friends keep on doing it, and that's why she's considered a transphobic mean girl in Great Britain whose 15 minutes of fame is long since over.

Her screed not only denies the existence of trans women (as usual) she took it to another level and erased the existence of trans women of color.

So naw, I don't give a rat's anus about Burchill's delicate, precious nerves because if she's woman enough to say transphobic shyt and write in her multiple failed columns, then she needs to pull up the big girl panties, stop crying White Women's Tears and deal with the justified retaliatory fire that will swiftly and surely come from us calling her azz out for saying her transphobic shyt.

New century, new decade, new rules.    In case you haven't noticed, this ain't the 1970's and 80's where you TERF mean girls could say transphobic crap with impunity, write books, transphobic columns, do lecture tours and go cackling off to your corners unchallenged.

Now your asses get called out by us and our allies and you don't like it.   Too damned bad.

As we say on my side of The Pond, don't start none, won't be none.

Elisa Chan Resigns From San Antonio City Council

There's good news and bad news for our TBLG peeps on the western end of I-10.

The good news is that transphobic and homophobic councilmember Elisa Chan has resigned from the San Antonio City Council effective October 18.

“I have done my best to represent the conservative values of these fine people. The people of this district take an active role in deciding policy, giving their input, volunteering their time and listening to the views of their neighbors,” she wrote in her resignation letter to Mayor Julian Castro. .

She was one of the three NO votes against the San Antonio non discrimination ordinance that added gender identity and sexual orientation language on September 5 and incredibly voted against the veterans protections that passed on a 9-2 vote the same day.

In addition to he anti-gay comments, Chan also attacked former San Antonio city councilmember Leticia Ozuna and disparaged her marriage to a trans woman.

So now that I've given you the good news, hope you're sitting down for the bad news trans and SGL Texans.

The bad news is that Chan resigned in order to run for the Texas state senate   She announced she was challenging incumbent Teapublican freshman State Senator Donna Campbell for the District 25 seat   Texas law requires that she resign from her council seat in order to run for the state legislature with the filing period starting on November 9 and running through December.

Please tell me San Antonio BTLG family y'all have a strong Democratic candidate running for the District 25 senate seat in case Chan knocks off Campbell and gets through that GOP primary.

The last thing I want to see in the 2015 Texas Senate is Elisa Chan sitting in it.

Sheena Monnin Still Owes The Donald And Miss Universe $5 Million

Remember Sheena Monnin, the transphobic 2012 Miss Pennsylvania pageant queen who threw shade at Jenna Talackova and made the sour grapes tinged accusation the Miss USA pageant was rigged?

The Donald as the co-owner of the Miss Universe pageant system sued, alleging that Monnin's accusation cost them a $5 million fee from a potential 2013 pageant sponsor and she lost a December arbitration hearing.

She also inserted herself in the at the time news surrounding Jenna Talackova competing for the 2012 Miss Canada Universe crown by shadily using her as a excuse to resign the Miss Pennsylvania Universe 2012 crown June 4 after she failed to make the Top 15 in the 2012 Miss USA pageant won by eventual Miss Universe Olivia Culpo.

“I refuse to be part of a pageant system that has so far and so completely removed itself from its foundational principles as to allow and support natural born males to compete in it,” Monnin's resignation email said. “This goes against ever moral fiber of my being.”

Well, she's in the news again because she tried to get the adverse arbitrator decision against her overturned and failed.

U.S. District Court Judge J. Paul Oetken upheld the arbitrator’s decision that Monnin sought to have overturned on the grounds that the arbitrator overstepped his authority, his decision disregarded law, and she didn’t know the arbitration hearing was taking place.

Judge Oetken, who was appointed by President Obama to the federal bench in July 2011 said otherwise.  Judge Oetken BTW is the first openly gay man appointed to the federal bench, so I found it it deliciously ironic he received this case.

And yeah, karma is a rhymes with itch.    Miss Moral Fiber 2012 still owes The Donald and the Miss Universe pageant system $5 million.

What, Fox Noise hasn't called you for a fembot commentating gig yet?  Gee, I wonder why?

Oh Hell No Sirius XM!

If you want to know why we have unacceptable levels of anti-trans violence disproportionately affecting POC trans people, one of the root causes is the unchecked hate speech aimed against trans folks.

Whether the anti-trans commentary is regurgitated on the Net, in the news media or the blogosphere, as I've said before and I'm paraphrasing here, trans hate thoughts lead to trans hate speech which equals to trans hate violence and the deaths of trans people .

And the watchdog organization that's supposed to call it out is cricket chirping silent about it.

Another example of hate speech running amok in the media ironically occurred on an outlet founded by a transwoman.   SiriusXM was founded by Martine Rothblatt back in the 90's and hosts on its many channels various talk shows from across the nation.

On one of them, during the June 3 broadcast of the Lex and Terry show they discussed the April Tampa incident in which transwoman Coco McDonald was lured to an abandoned house, robbed and shot twice by a perpetrator who was later arrested.

Lex and Terry not only condoned the crime, but one of them said they would have done the same thing themselves.

Gee, nice to know you wastes of DNA condone the murder of other human beings.

Cristan Williams and Cheryl Courtney-Evans are some of the bloggers who have spoken out against this hate speech being broadcast on the air.  Cheryl had this to say about it in her Abitchforjustice post:

Surely this type of behavior and goading the public is just as inflammatory as Don Imus' "nappy-headed hoes", and deserves repercussion, apologies and/or firing(s)! Are not WE as human as the Rutgers University's female basketball team? Are not our persons as at risk when made to be viewed a certain way to the general public (that may hold individuals of low intelligence who might take this type of talk to heart and act on it)? I believe this type of speech borders on the criminal, in that it can incite violence on transgender individuals...

To me it's even more insulting that this happened on a network that was founded by a transwoman and I cosign what my trans sister Cheryl said.  It's also galling to note that this broadcast happened days after a Los Angeles transwoman was brutally beaten and left for dead as the transphobia runs amok in Bossip's comment threads.

But back to focusing on Sirius XM and this Oh Hell No moment.   Lex and Terry need to be suspended or fired for advocating violence against transwomen that as the lengthening TDOR name lists tell us, far too many people are willing to carry out.

TransGriot Update:  A Change.org petition has already gotten started with the goal of getting 500 signatures to demand that Clear Channel apologize for Lex and Terry's transphobic antics.

SiriusXM has already apologized for it.  They issued the following statement regarding this issue and Clear Channels responsibility for programming the Lex and Terry show.

We apologize for this programming and don’t in any way condone it. The Extreme Talk channel and the Lex and Terry show are programming providing to us by Clear Channel. The channel and all the shows on it are under the control of Clear Channel. We are required to carry the channel based on pre-existing agreement with Clear Channel. We have made Clear Channel aware of this issue and the complaints from listeners.

TransGriot Update: The Lex and Terry show has been dropped by Clear Channel from the SiriusXM Extreme Talk channel..  Lex and Terry according to GLAAD are apologizing for the jacked up comment.

Y'all Must Think We're Stupid, Cleveland Plain Dealer

plain dealer building.JPGWhen GLAAD, HRC, a host of other allied LGBT organizations, people in the trans community from Cleveland, Ohio, around the nation and the world tell you that the two transphobic articles you wrote in the Cemia Acoff case are deeply offensive, it would stand to reason that you would at least change them.

Here we are three days later and the offensive headlines and paragraphs in the two awful hate crime stories penned by John Caniglia are STILL there.

And no, these two stories aren't even close to meeting AP standards for reporting on trans people. If you think Cleveland Plain Dealer we didn't notice the little stunt you pulled, just advising you we transfolks have above average reading comprehension.

And it's why you're getting called out on this in the first place.

PhotoBloggers by simply talking to people in the Cleveland trans community quickly established that Ms Acoff's name is Cemia.   From that we found pictures on her Facebook page.   Another friend of Cemia's created the RIP Ce Ce graphic that is up on my blog so I don't need to put up the mug shots that you disrespectfully continue to keep up on those two jacked up posts.

And you think we didn't notice you:

* Still have those jacked up titles for both articles
* Still kept the mugshots in both articles
* Still refuse to excise the criminal record that is not germane to the story
* Still are refusing to refer to Cemia as she, with female pronouns or as a transgender female.
* Still refuse to use her chosen name as part of the AP Stylebook guidelines you claim to have followed.

Digging your heels in and hoping this will blow over is only serving to piss off the Cleveland, Ohio, US and  international trans communities, along with our allies in the United States and around the world.

With each passing hour you continue to look like transphobic jerks for not doing the right thing and simply making the edits to the stories that will treat Cemia with the dignity that you stripped her of.

And if you think posting at the bottom of the offending article that you 'amended' it to comply with AP Stylebook standards, I have waterfront property along I-10 between Breaux Bridge and Baton Rouge, LA in the Atchafalaya Swamp I'd like to sell you

I could go on, but I'll let Dr. Kelley Winters give you her take on your wastes of bandwith articles.
The barely edited article is not at all within the AP Stylebook guidelines.

It states, "Transgender: Use the pronoun preferred by the individuals who have acquired the physical characteristics of the opposite sex or present themselves in a way that does not correspond with their sex at birth. If that preference is not expressed, use the pronoun consistent with the way the individuals live publicly."

The language in Caniglia and Corrigan's article is only somewhat more gender neutral and nowhere respectful of Ms. Acoff as a woman who lived, died and publicly identified as a woman (a point the authors sensationalized, regarding her arrest because she affirmed herself as a woman to transit police).

Male pronouns remain in paragraph 3-- one in a quote and another not in a quoted statement. Hormonal transition care is maligned for all transgender and transsexual people as "dangerous drugs." The authors make a point to ridicule the underwear she wore when she died, a humiliation they would never inflict on a person of privilege. Ms. Acoff is described throughout the article as more criminal than her murderer(s).

The authors depict the victim with a mug shot, rather than a respectful photo of the young woman she was ( http://tinyurl.com/chgevw5 ).

While sensationalizing her past petty infractions, the authors neglect to mention whether the police have a suspect or are even investigating her death as a murder. This article typifies the victim bashing and stereotyping that so many transgender women, especially trans women of color, suffer in the media. It is a disgrace to journalism.

And hey, Dr. Winters was nice to you.   I called it a 'journalistic hate crime' and stand by what I wrote in light of seeing the 'frack you' half azzed edits you did.

You can circle the wagons to shield yourselves from the caca storm your articles and disrespect of Ce Ce Acoff touched off all you want, but me
mo to you Cleveland Plain Dealer, John Caniglia and everybody else whose transphobic fingerprints are on this.  We aren't stupid, and the trans community isn't letting up or letting go on this blatant disrepect of a deceased transwoman.

Neither am I until you address the problems in those articles because it's transpeeps who look like me that are taking the brunt of these hate crime killings along with trans Latinas.

It's fouled up stories like this that create the climate for people to think it's okay to kill transpeople in the first place.

Issak Gets To Go To His Prom With His Date

Photo: Issak and Taylor weekend prom pic

The Red Lion Area Senior High School prom in Red Lion, PA was last night, and senior Issak Oliver Wolfe was in attendance with his date Taylor Thomas last night.

The reason we're aware this happened is because of the transphobic events leading up to last night's prom that prompted the ACLU to get involved.

Issak has been transitioning since ninth grade even though his paper trail hasn't yet caught up to where he is in his physical transformation.

But a nasty cup of transphobia was dipped in his transition Kool-Aid by Red Lion High School principal Mark Shue when he listed Issak as a candidate on the prom queen side under his old name because he was 'uncomfortable'.

Never mind the fact that Issak was running for prom king.

When a stunned Issak went to find out why, Shue and his assistant principals were conveniently out of the building for a meeting.   Then Shue continued to dig the transphobic hole he was in by barring Wolfe's 19 year old girlfreind from being able to attend the prom with him because she exercised her First Amendment rights and called out Red Lion High School on a Facebook page.

The ACLU got involved at this point and threatened a lawsuit if Shue not only didn't cease and desist with the prom shenanigans, but allow Issak to wear the black cap and gown male Red Lion students wear.on May 3.  Why they don't have all students wear the school color cap and gowns is a mystery, but back to the story.

.The ACLU is also demanding an apology from Shue for the hurt and unnecessary drama he caused Wolfe with his initial transphobic stunt.

Will keep you updated as to if it happens.

Dyssonance Debunks More Bug Lies

Y'all know how much I love Dyssonance, especially when she has fun debunking and effortlessly destroying ignorance from the rad phlegm ranks.

Definitely had to signal boost this latest post of her taking down the odious as she calls her Cockroach (and the rest of us as the whyte radfem trans oppressor from Maryland) we all know and loathe

So once again rad fems who claim you don't agree with what the TERF's (trans exclusionary radical feminists) spew on their hate sites, when are y'all going to get off your behinds and do your part to call them out?

Better yet, if you're serious that they don't belong in your feminist ranks, how about working to get them declared by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a hate group?

Here's a taste of Toni's latest brilliance.

Now, I’m going to point this out to you right off the start: She says two things in her 4th paragraph that pretty much prove she is a lying sack of shit in her fifth one and since she builds her arguments on the premise there, she basically is using the model she’s grown accustomed to using that makes it so easy for me to shit all over her.

She says, pointedly, that she doesn’t know if the study is well done or not. She also says she isn’t a statistician.

Well, I am, and looking at the study (studies, actually, if she’d bothered to really do any sort of actual research into the powerpoint) is something that strikes me as a minimum requirement if you are going to talk about it. So we already know that I have a slightly higher standard for such things than she does, but her goal is demonzation and repeating and reinforcing stigma because of her irrational and aversive bigotry, so of course she is going to reduce her standards.

Besides, she’s a lawyer, that’s what they do, especially while throwing people out of their homes.

Since she doesn’t know if the study is done particularly well, how can she determine that the methodology wasn’t done well? For the study to be done particularly well the methodology needs to be so. That’s pretty much the basics, and the study in question has held up to scrutiny from people far more suited to picking it apart than she has the capability of doing.

Pope Benedict XVI Resigning

In a announcement that was a shock to the 1.2 billion people who are Roman Catholics around the world and will set off celebrations for those of us who aren't, Papa Nazi Pope Benedict XVI announced that he would resign the papacy on February 28.   He cited his advancing age (85) as a reason to become the first pontiff in 600 years to step down while in office.

Never been a fan of this pontiff because of his open hostility to trans people and the increasing Paul McHugh introduced trans hate injected into Catholic doctrine during his term that has filtered down to the rest of the cardinals and the flock.

That Vatican trans hate has led to a major spike in anti-trans bigotry and anti-trans violence in many predominately Roman Catholic nations in Latin America and eastern Europe .

So I will be deliriously happy along with many of us in the trans community and our LGB allies to see him go.

The question will become as we get closer to his February 28 resignation date is who takes his place as the leader of the Roman Catholic Church?

We'll also be asking ourselves in the international trans and SGL communities will the next pope be better or worse than the person who preceded him? .

Claudia Jordan and Tamar Braxton Throwing Transphobic Shade At Joseline Hernandez

One of the things the African American cisgender community needs to do a much better job of in 2013 is to stop perpetuating the black unwoman meme in our community and uttering shady transphobic comments at each other

I was alerted by Janet Mock to this latest outbreak of transphobic shade being thrown and it was during the December 17 debut of the Tiny Tonight talk show on VH1.

The show is hosted by Tameka 'Tiny' Harris and includes the rapper Trina, Tamar Braxton, and former Price is Right and Deal Or No Deal model Claudia Jordan.   Tiny described it as a next generation version of The View.

If that's the level of conversation they are aiming for, they definitely missed the target badly in terms of reaching that level of intelligent discourse during their debut show.

There was a discussion centered on the VH1 reality show Love and Hip Hop in which Tamar and Claudia began going down that tired transphobic 'Joseline Hernandez is a man' turf.

Of course, Joseline, who is justifiably tired of having her femininity attacked, struck back on Twitter and Kandi Burruss' 'Kandi Koated Nights' radio show by slamming Claudia and Tamar.

But yeah people, this is getting old.  We transwomen are sick and tired of being sick and tired of the 'that's a man' shade y'all like to throw at any woman that you ignorantly presume doesn't pass muster with the Black Femininity Police.

The shade starts at the 10:00 minute mark    Tamar should know better because she's had along with two of her sisters the same trans feminine status accusations hurled at her.

And you also need to consider the fact that Black transwomen are part of the target viewing audience for your show, and you are alienating us with this constant repetition of  this transphobic meme.

So no, y'all need to chill with that.

Still Pissed About Roseanne Barr's Transphobic Tweets

The passage of this weekend not only didn't lessen my anger about Roseanne Barr's jacked up transphobic tweets I put her and Kola Boof on blast for Friday, it poured gasoline on the smoldering anger I felt about it when I discovered this wasn't an isolated incident of transphobic bigotry coming from her.

From 'Roseannearchy: Dispatches from the Nut Farm'

Then the Transgendered versus the Butch Dyke wars started—to see two of those folks fighting about being female was quite an eye-opener for me. You haven’t lived until you have seen a huge guy with boobs talking about female hormones and deciding to keep his penis, and how that was a feminist issue.” – Roseanne Barr

Umm hmm...guess you'll be telling jokes from The Land next year.

I find it laughable that you and your whyte radfem womyn gone wyld allies are bloviating about angry tweets aimed at you from righteously angry trans women reacting to the negativity your vanillacentric privileged behind put out there.

Keep crying those White Women's Tears.  It ain't working because you privileged white feminists started this War on Transwomen beck in the 1970's and we're beyond tired of it.

Thanks to the Net trans women and our cis feminine allies now have the ability to return your transphobic rhetorical fire just as quickly as y'all put it out there.  Some of my trans sisters don't really care at this point if it hurts your feelings and tweaks your delicate precious nerves.  You damned sure didn't care about our feelings when you let fly with those comments and we see you and your feminist buddies as worse than our right wing conservafool oppressors.

News flash, Roseanne.  The bathroom predators you rail about are cisgender people attacking trans people.  Bottom line is that your pimping of that demonstrably false bathroom predator meme has deleterious and real word effects on trans people's lives.   It not only fuels anti-trans hatred, but in some cases results in anti-trans violence aimed at transwomen and the people who give a damn about us.

Roseanne's clueless pushing of the bathroom predator meme is not only pathetically sad, it's par for the white feminist course.

As long as it's transwomen, and especially non-white transwomen who are getting assaulted and killed, you don't give a rats anus that it's happening, nor are you concerned about doing anything to eradicate it.

Well, I am concerned about it and I do care what's happening to my sisters because there but for the grace of God go I in that situation.

Your ill considered tweeted words needlessly poured gasoline on this testy situation and will lead to hatred and potential assaults not only aimed at us, but cis women who don't fit the Femininity Police standards on what and how a woman should look like and present herself in public. .

The trans women and the masculine appearing cis women who will experience those assaults will have you Roseanne and your radical feminist buddies to thank for it.

Cis Women, You Can't Support Trans Women And Push The Bathroom Predator Meme

I've had a neutral opinion about Roseanne Barr over the years but that may be about to change in a negative direction.   She let fly with a series of transphobic tweets that makes me wonder if she went to Michfest this year. The transphobic Twitter exchange was driven by guess what, the bathroom issue.

Kola Boof stuck her nose in the middle of this transphobic Twitter mess and unleashed a series of problematic tweets in support of Roseanne.

Note to Kola and 'errbody' else: You cannot call yourself a supporter of trans women and pimp the demonstrably false bathroom predator meme at the same time.   By doing so you, Roseanne and anyone else who pushes this meme is interpreted by trans women as you really don't respect us and our femininity.

It also causes trans women to question just how much of an ally to our community you really are.

Don't even go there on the security issue as an excuse to peddle the transphobic bathroom meme, especially in light of the fact that an average of two transwomen a month die somewhere around the world due to anti-trans violence and that average is alarmingly rising.

Trans women are beyond sick and tired of being sick and tired of elements of you cis women reciting that tired meme so you can create a bogus excuse for yourself to denigrate, disrespect and oppress us to make yourselves feel superior and empowered.

I and other transwomen are also beyond sick and tired of being sick and tired of repeating this point.  If God forbid a rapist is going to attack a woman in the restroom, he is not going to waste time getting in drag to do so.  The rapist will simply walk into said restroom and do the criminal deed.

Trans women are women period.  Whatever issues you have with the male gender, take it up with da fellas and stop projecting it on us, okay?   Contrary to the misguided opinions pushed by the Barr-Boof tag team, trans women once we transition are not considered by cis men as part of their team anymore.

Medical science also increasingly pointing out when it comes to the structure of trans women's brains, we're similar to cis women between the ears.  We just have to work a little harder and spend some money to morph the rest of our bodies to match the brain gender ID.

I would rather be taking time to comment on other issues of importance to this community and finding ways to work in conjunction with my cis sisters rather than having to put y'all on blast for ignorantly pimping this meme that is disrespectful to us.

Not only are we tired of the War on Transwomen and whyte radfem womyn gone wild, we're tired of the false presumption that trans women still have 'residual male privilege' that lead to elements of cis women still pearl clutching to the bathroom predator meme disrespecting and denigrating trans women.

This meme must die and needs to die now, especially since conservafool legislators around the world and radical feminist transphobes who have no other excuse to oppose trans human rights are seizing on this to attempt to stop trans human rights legislation we need.

For you cis women who constantly ask me how to best support trans women, here's a suggestion.  In addition to being loyal friends and supporters to us, another way can be to educate yourself on our issues and help us permanently eradicate the bathroom predator meme.

Gloria Steinem-Transphobe

You long time TransGriot readers know I'm not a feminist and I cringe when I hear Black women even say the term because of its history of marginalizing women of color to the point they left the movement.

And don't even get me started on its outright hostility to trans women, which is why I identify as a womanist.

And yes, it's time to unmask another one of the feminist icons, Gloria Steinem as a transphobe.

She not only wrote some foul stuff centered on Renee Richards in 1977 when hating on transwomen was par for the feminist course, but in the 1983 book Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions that was recently republished.

But before I get to the transphobic 1983 scribblings, here's what she said then about Renee Richards and transpeople in general.  It was also in reaction at the time to comments that characterized the Richards saga as "a frightening instance of what feminism could lead to" or as "living proof that feminism isn't necessary."

Steinem wrote at the time, "At a minimum, it was a diversion from the widespread problems of sexual inequality." She writes that, while she supports the right of individuals to identify as they choose, she claims that, in many cases, transsexuals "surgically mutilate their own bodies" in order to conform to a gender role that is inexorably tied to physical body parts. She concludes that "feminists are right to feel uncomfortable about the need for and uses of transsexualism."

She then concluded the transphobic article with the quote: "If the shoe doesn't fit, must we change the foot?

Moving on to the Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions in which pages 224-228 of it contains a five page essay on trans identities in which she cited Janice Raymond and her odious 1979 waste of trees The Transsexual Empire in it several times.

Let's start with these transphobic gems.   On page 226 of the book:

Was it fair for women to face someone trained physically and culturally for forty years as a man?
On page 227 Steinem pulls out the 'mutilation' card:
In other words, transsexuals are paying an extreme tribute to the power of sex roles. In order to set their real human personalities free, they surgically mutilate their own bodies...
And ho hum, here we go again with the tired 'waste of medical resources' meme as she gives a shout out to Janice Raymond:
Instead of serving more lifesaving but often less lucrative needs for their surgical and hormone-therapy skills, some physicians are aiding individuals who are desperately trying to conform to an unjust society. It’s a small group of successful physicians she [Janice Raymond] names ‘the transsexual empire’.
So if you wonder why I have such a low regard for feminism no matter what wave it is in or have eye roll inducing suspicion of trans feminism, it's because of transphobic scribblings like this from a long list of white feminists and trans feminists like Chelsea Sayre who spend more time apologizing for the TERF's than calling them out for their nekulturny behavior.

Discovering feminist icon Gloria Steinem shared those anti-trans sentiments, combined with feminism's appalling silence over the fact that their poison pens and the anti-trans sentiments they stoked have caused deleterious real world effects in the lives of trans women only adds to my distaste of feminism.

Adrienne Rich-Transphobe

One of the things the feminist blogosphere conveniently didn't talk about when feminist writer and poet Adrienne Rich died March 27 was her role in planting the seeds of transphobia that infect radical feminism today

In the acknowledgments section of the transphobic waste of trees Janice Raymond penned in 1979 called The Transsexual Empire,  Raymond said, "Adrienne Rich has been a very special friend and critic. She has read the manuscript through all its stages and provided resources, creative criticism, and constant encouragement."

In the chapter of The Transsexual Empire entitled "Sappho by Surgery", Raymond cites a conversation with Adrienne Rich in which Rich described trans women as "men who have given up the supposed ultimate possession of manhood in a patriarchal society by self-castration"

So why am I and other transpeople fired up about Adrienne Rich's transphobia being swept under the rug by feminists?  It's because that 1979 Raymond book that Rich provided creative criticism and constant encouragement for was the building block not only for trans hatred in radical feminism, it was also used to justify denial of medical coverage for low income transpeople and deny trans people access to basic public accommodations..

So yes, Adrienne Rich was an important, influential and inspirational writer.   But she also like Mary Daly never apologized for her transphobic words and actions.  She also played a role in helping Janice Raymond compile The Transsexual Empire book that has deleteriously affected trans women's lives for over three decades.

May she rest in peace, but I'm not giving her a pass on her transphobia either.
