Dave Wilson Runs For HCC Board, But Can't Spell

You longtime TransGriot readers have read my rants about Dave Wilson, who is a longtime transphobe and homophobe who has been responsible for helping spike two attempts at Houston passing inclusive nondiscrimination ordinances in 1985 and 2015.

When he's not busy trying to get transphobic BS inserted into the Houston City Charter, Wilson has been keeping himself busy doing his hatemongering as a member of the Houston Community College board. 

Saying in that misspelled flyer that he has 'uncompromising integrity' is a crock, being that he passed himself off as Black to narrowly win the HCC District II seat by 24 votes and knock off a 24 year African American incumbent board trustee in the process. 

He has been censured and reprimanded by his fellow board members for his antics.  When Rhonda Skillern Jones stepped up to challenge him for his HCC District II seat, he resigned, then filed to run in the HCC District I seat race against attorney Monica Flores Richart.

Needless to say I want his azz (and so does everyone at HCC) gone, and it's a major reason why I not only endorsed Monica Flores Richart in this race, I hope she is successful in taking his reprehensible behind out.    I love watching trans oppressors like Wilson get beaten at the ballot box.

I also found it interesting that a candidate trying to get back on the board of a community college, pays so little attention to his campaign material that he let a spelling error slide by.

What is it about transphobes and their propensity for spelling errors? .

But here's hoping that we're calling Monica Flores Richart 'trustee-elect' at the end of the night

Dear Transphobic People-Y'all Really Showing Y'all Azz

You are really showing your azzes this week, and it has been especially acute around two issues.

First let's talk about the massive freakout you're having because the Always brand of menstrual pads simply took the Venus female symbol off the packaging in a nod to the fact that women aren't the only beings on the planet who have vaginas.

After hearing from many people, we recognized that not everyone who has a period and needs to use a pad, identifies as female. To ensure that anyone who needs to use a period product feels comfortable with Always, we’re adjusting our pad wrapper design as part of our next round of product changes. As a global brand, our design updates will be adapted by multiple markets at various dates beginning in January/February 2020.

Yeah, I get it there's a whole cultural aspect around periods and menstruation.   It's associated with femininity and signals that a girl is becoming a woman

It may be news to you, but trans masculine people and gender non conforming who were AFAB still have them even after they take testosterone to masculinize their bodies and make them congruent to the people they are. 

Taking the symbol off the packaging is something that shouldn't be a big deal to you cispeeps, but it is a huge one for trans masculine and gender non conforming people who are going through periods.

Taking the symbol off those wrappers will make it less awkward for trans masculine peeps who have to not only purchase pads during that time, but disposing the wrappers. 

It was a simple, deeply appreciated gesture by Proctor & Gamble , but cue the predominately white TERFs losing what's left of their collective minds to assert that 'the transgender lobby bullied P&G into doing it'

What opiods are you TERFs on?   You TERFs, and especially you off the chains British ones, will seize on any opportunity to spit anti-trans venom at trans women.

First, eff y'all for that.  Second, why are y'all going apoplectic about packaging on a period pad?  Glad y'all assume we have that kind of power. 

Trust and believe that when it comes to trans community lobbying priorities, getting Proctor & Gamble to change the packaging on an Always  period pad was not high on the Top Five priority list, especially for Black trans folks who are disproportionately catching the brunt of the anti-trans violence being stirred up by you hateful harpies and your Republican allies.

The other good thing about this Always pads mess is that it is revealing who the transphobic fauxgressives and our allies and supporters really are

And yeah gay menz, we see y'all once again taking the opportunity to throw transphobic shade, and your ignorant behinds will be called out and dealt with when the time is right.

Now let's move to my beloved home state of Texas.    A Dallas area mother, Dr Anne Georgulas,  sued her problematic ex-husband Jeffrey Younger for full custody of their twins.   

The divorce has been contentious.  Georgulas and Younger had their marriage annulled in 2015 after the court found that Jeffrey Younger had lied multiple times to Georgulas about his income, education, marital status and military service.

Add to this mix that one of the AMAB twins,  Luna Younger, has identified as a girl since age 3, has clearly expressed a feminine gender identity, and has been diagnosed with gender dysphoria but daddy is trying to force the child to live as male.

The court wisely awarded full custody to Dr Georgulas, but the conservafools have decided to seize on this case and blow it up as a way to attack the Texas trans community. 

'The evilgelicals and far right wing transphobes as usual have been anything but Christ-like in their response to this.   They are firing up the Right Wing Outrage Machine, viciously attacking Dr Georgulas,  have posted fake one star reviews about her pediatric medical practice, and are trying to paint this as the 'transgender lobby run amok'.

Gov. Greg Abbott (R), indicted AG Ken Paxton (R) and Sen Ted Cruz (R), never missing a chance to attack the Texas trans community, have stuck their noses in this family's business and outed the child.

Rep Steve Toth (R-The Woodlands) has pledged to author a bill that would declare  transitioning of a minor child 'as child abuse', and Rep Matt Krause (R-Fort Worth) wants to introduce a bill banning the use of puberty blockers in children.

“We’ve already seen what happens when the state politicizes transgender children: Real harm can be done,” said Angela Hale, the acting CEO of Equality Texas.  “Politicians have no business delving into people’s private lives and attempting to harm children.”
I'm going to say it in terms that you TXGOP transphobes and cognitively challenged voters can clearly understand

Don't mess with Texas trans children.   We will fight you every step of the way along with the Mama and Papa Bears, the medical community, and our allies to ensure that you lose this fight just like you did twice when it came to the unjust SB 6 bill.

These revolting TXGOP developments make it clear what one of our political missions will be for Texas trans peeps in 2020.

We not only must defend Texas trans kids and their parents, it makes it even more imperative that we flip those nine seats and get control of the Texas House in the 2020 election cycle, starting with Matt Krause's and Steve Toth's transphobic azzes.

Transphobic Defense Attorney Andrew Wilkerson Found In Contempt Of Court

Had a feeling this was going to happen sometime during this Edward Thomas trial, and today was that day.

Thanks to reporter Dana Branham, who is tweeting this trial for the Dallas Morning News now in its second day,  we've learned that Andrew Wilkerson, the transphobic lead defense attorney for Edward Thomas, the person videotaped beating Muhlaysia Booker in that infamous viral video, went too far in his as he termed it "zealously, righteously, and fearlessly defending his client."

Before the trial started, he tried and thankfully failed to deploy the trans panic defense to get his client who is facing 20 years in prison a lighter sentence.

Wilkerson and Michael Campbell, the other defense attorney in this case, continued to misgender and deadname Booker.   Wilkerson also made the BS laden claim that Booker instigated the attack that left her with a concussion and a broken wrist by 'talking smack'

He also continued to argue with Judge Hector Garza, who warned his transphobic behind several times that he was going too far with his courtroom antics before Garza cleared the jurors out of the courtroom and found Wilkerson in contempt of court.

Wilkerson was sentenced to 14 days in jail and a $500 fine, and led out of the courtroom in handcuffs before testimony resumed in this case. 

Wilkerson is now in jail for the rest of this trial, and hopefully his client Edward Thomas will be joining him in the Dallas County Iron Bar Hilton soon.

Never Demetria

The late Maya Angelou once said that when somebody shows you who they are the first time, believe them.   One of the candidates in the 2019 Houston mayoral race has a long ugly history of showing us exactly who she is as an unrepentant transphobe and a homophobe.

That would be Demetria Smith.     And Moni has receipts.

Yep, the same Demetria Smith who has run for since 2013 a District D city council seat, Texas governor in 2018 and now twice for mayor in 2015 and this year.

The same Demetria Smith who is anti-HERO and still futilely trying to gaslight you into believing she isn't.

The same Demetria Smith that threw a hissy fit at a January 2018 Houston GLBT caucus meeting when her time ran out to speak at that meeting, then took to her social media in the wake of that public meltdown to falsely claim "the GLBT's are trying to silence me."

The same Demetria Smith that can't spell her own name right on her own campaign material.

She is the same Demetria Smith whose $3,750 filing fee check for the governor's race bounced, leading the Texas Secretary of State to declare her ineligible to run for the governor's office. 

It's not like she would have gotten any support had she been able to stay on the ballot in that Blue tsunami wave election year.   She got less than 1% of the vote the last time she ran for mayor in 2015, and is well on her way thanks to her unrepentant homophobia and transphobia to failing spectacularly again.

Oh yeah, almost forgot.  Don't you still owe the state of Texas $22,000 in delinquent filing fees?

The last few days have found Smith on social media once again letting her anti-gay and anti-trans flags fly.  She has attacked At Large 5 city council candidate Ashton P. Woods, Kandice Webber, Eric Edward Schell, Nick Arvizu-Hutchinson  and an increasingly lengthy list of other peeps in the Houston TBLGQ community tired of her bull feces and calling her on it.

HERO 2.0 without public accommodations language or coverage for trans people is a non starter.

Your beliefs as you call them are not grounded in anything but sheer ignorance, and as an award winning blogger and journalist, my job is to speak truth to power, call crap out and stamp out ignorance inside and outside my community.

You are batting .1000 when it comes to spreading that ignorance. 

And let me get something straight with your reprehensible behind..  Gaybaiting is not a good look on you sweetheart.  Neither is willful ignorance or transphobia, and it's time for a makeover and a trip to the library.

Martina Navratilova Comes Out As A Transphobe

As you longtime TransGriot readers are aware of, I am a huge tennis fan and played on my high school's varsity tennis team.

I not only followed Renee Richards emerging story back then, but her ultimately successful federal civil rights lawsuit against the US Open in 1977 that allowed her to play professional tennis a s a trans women

I also remember when Martina Navratilova came out in 1981, and endured homophobic abuse and misgendering shade thrown at her as she became with Renee Richards' help as her coach, one of the all time tennis greats with 18 Grand Slam title wins to her credit.

She has also been an advocate for lesbian and gay rights.   Not so much when it comes to the 'T' in TBLGQ.

Navratilova solidified her status as a transphobe when she penned a transphobic and TERFy sounding article in the Sunday Times of London that stated trans women competing in women's sports is 'insane' and is 'cheating'

“It’s insane and it’s cheating. I am happy to address a transgender woman in whatever form she prefers, but I would not be happy to compete against her. It would not be fair,” wrote Navratilova in that article.

Naw you hypocrite.  What's insane is your comment.  I also note that you didn't complain or have a problem when you beat Renee Richards three times when you played her, so have several sections of seats at Arthur Ashe Stadium on that one.

This also comes in the wake of transphobic comments Navratilova made back in December in which she slammed Dr Rachel McKinnon, who became the first out trans feminine athlete to win a track cycling world title back in October .

Naw Martina, you do not get to get to hold Renee Richards up as a human shield to deflect the justified comments we have for you making your loud, wrong and transphobic statements, especially in light of the fact that Republican controlled states like South Dakota are trying to pass laws banning trans youth from competing in sports.

.I find it interesting that cis feminine people like yourself as long as you're beating trans feminine athletes have no problem with competing against us in the women's sporting ranks.but the nanosecond we trans women start winning events,  all of a sudden it's 'unfair'.

Miss me with that transphobic noise.   That BS laden argument about trans women dominating cis women in competition hasn't happened yet anywhere on the planet.

Know how many Grand Slam titles your homegirl Renee Richards won during her playing career?   Same as Anna Kournikova...ZERO   Know how many trans Olympic athletes we have had since we've been allowed by the IOC to compete?  ZERO

The only trans feminine person that has even made an appearance at the Olympics was model Lea T, and she was one of the national placard models during the Rio Games opening ceremonies.

It is an argument that is also insulting and disrespectful to cis feminine athletes, and one we're tired of hearing in Trans World.

Cali GOP US House Candidate Peddles Transphobia In Her Race

The Republican Party seems to think that peddling transphobia in this 2018 midterm election cycle is the way to primary and general election success . 

They need to talk to former North Carolina governor Pat McCrory, former South Carolina state senator Lee Bright, and former Texas state representatives Debbie Riddle and Gilbert Pena about the wisdom of that strategy.

All of them tried to peddle anti-trans legislation in their various states and paid the ultimate political price for it.   

We have Phillip Aronoff trying it in his runoff election for the Texas 29th US House District Republican nomination against Carmen Montiel, and now I am hearing it being taking to another disgusting level in California

Meet Jazmina Saavedra.   This GOP transphobe and Nicaraguan immigrant has drunk the Trump Kool-Aid.   She is running for the same 44th Congressional District seat held by freshman Congresswoman Nanette Barragan (D) that Stacey Dash was originally vying for. 

Dash suspended her campaign after it became clear no one was supporting her in the Los Angeles County congressional district that includes the cities of Compton, San Pedro and the Watts neighborhood.

Saavedra took to Facebook Live to film, misgender  and harass a trans woman trying to handle her bathroom business in a Los Angeles Denny's ironically on the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT)

Saavedra is filming as the Denny's manager is outside the stall for the trans woman.   As the trans woman is humiliatingly being led out of the restaurant located at Vermont Ave and Wilshire Blvd by the manager, the Trump sellout supporter is going on an anti-Obama and anti-trans rant.

The Denny's in question is less than five miles from the LA LGBT Center, and while they commented on the disgusting discriminatory display, Denny's hasn't issued a statement as of this moment. .

"Ignorance is not the sole province of one party or political perspective," Los Angeles LGBT Center Executive Director Darrel Cummings said in statement.

"But the current Administration has emboldened people to express their ignorance and hatred in a way that is so odious and shameful that we are required time and again to actively resist. That a candidate for Congress can express such outrageous and callous disregard for another human being clearly demonstrates that she is not fit for public office." 

"But just to be clear in case Ms. Saavedra does not get the message, ignorance, fear-mongering and harassment have no place in a country founded on principles of equality and mutual respect. On this International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, let this candidate’s disgraceful behavior be a rallying cry for us all to stand up for what is right."

Congresswoman Barragan also released a statement reported by The Daily Beast concerning what happened at the Denny's to the still unidentified trans woman in question.

"I was appalled by the treatment that this woman received for simply trying to use the restroom. Everyone has the right to their own identity, and the right not to be discriminated against for who they are," said Rep. Barragan.

I'm appalled as well Rep. Barragan.  The trans woman in question is owed an apology by Denny's.

I hope that my LA trans siblings protest not only that Denny's if that apology doesn't expeditiously happen, but unfit for any political office GOP transphobe Jazmina Saavedra's campaign headquarters

May Saavedra discover on June 5 like Jeanne Ives did in Illinois that transphobia is NOT a winning campaign strategy.  

Phillip Aronoff Peddles Transphobia On The TX 29 Campaign Trail

The Texas 29th Congressional District was created in 1991 to ensure that a Latix person got elected to the US Congress.   But due to the Latinx vote being split among several candidates, Gene Green got the Democratic nomination and was elected to the seat in 1992. 

He has been its only congressmember ever since, as has comfortably been reelected in every election cycle since. 

Rep. Green announced in November 2017 that he is retiring and not running for reelection in 2018.
That set off a scramble in both parties for the seat and raised hopes in the Latinx community that they would finally get one of their own people to rep the congressional district that was drawn for them by the Texas Legislature to send one of their own to Congress.

State Sen. Sylvia Garcia is considered the frontrunner to get the nomination on the Democratic side, in a crowded field of seven candidates. 

There are four candidates vying for the Republican nomination, with one of those Republican candidates being Phillip Aronoff.   It's obvious based on his recent Meet The Candidate interview he hasn't gotten the message that transphobia is not a winning campaign issue, even in the Lone Star State.

If Aronoff thinks I'm kidding about that, ask former state representatives Debbie Riddle and Gilbert Pena.  They tried to pass anti-trans legislation in the 2015 session and found themselves  on the outside of the Pink Dome at the start of the 2017 Texas Lege session.

I mean, how can you change like-you can’t. So, so, so the science deniers are the people who say if you have XY chromosomes, you can still be a woman. That’s not the case. That comment is not only transphobic, it's intersexphobic as well as exposing your ignorance of science to the world.    Ever heard of intersex people?  XY women exist due to transsexuality and an intersex condition known as androgen insensitivity syndrome

In the animal world, clownfish are just one of the species that can change their gender orientation.

The anti-intellectualism in the Republican Party has got to be stopped.   

I hope someone other than Aronoff gets the GOP nomination, but if he does manage to walk away with it.  I definitely will be doing my part along with trans folks and our allies who live in the 29th Congressional District to ensure that the Democratic nominee wins this seat.

At this crucial time in our country's history, we don't need a wilfully ignorant transphobe and intersexphobe in Congress.  .

MassResistance Sets Off Gaydars With Rainbow Flag Waving Interpretive Dance

We have always said in TBLGQ World that the people who gleefully work on oppressing our community are usually self hating cowards who protest too much.

We got another gaydar triggering confirmation of this when MassResistance, an anti-TBLGQ hate group based in Massachusetts. made the curious decision to kick off an anti-gay hate conference with a rainbow flag waving interpretive dance that set gaydars off across the country.

Minnesota Republican State Legislator Unleashes Anti-Trans Tweet

Not everyone in the Land of 10,000 Lakes thought that Andrea Jenkins and Phillipe Cunningham's historic Minneapolis City Council seat wins were something wonderful to celebrate. 

Minnesota state Rep.Mary Franson (R-Alexandria) did what Republicans do and deployed the anti-trans hatred when asked about it.

On Wednesday she unleashed this transphobic Tweet from her now deactivated account.

It is a shame to read on social media a statement by a public official that perpetuates a false and pejorative stereotype about transgender people.

We encourage our colleague, Representative Mary Franson, to get the facts and to get to know transgender people herself. She will quickly learn that, as the American Psychological Association says, being transgender is not a mental illness. Problems arise for transgender people from lack of support and acceptance that creates the path for discrimination, and all too often assault, that almost all transgender people experience at one time or another. When leaders who hold positions of respect casually trade in negative comments about transgender people, some interpret that as an invitation to treat their fellow Minnesotans poorly.

Our job as state legislators and policy makers is to ensure that there is as much opportunity as possible in Minnesota so that all people can pursue their dreams and aspirations. Putting barriers in place for anyone, doing active harm to our own neighbors, is antithetical to our country’s core values – a place where everyone is free and everyone is equal. We all are better off when people are able to contribute the best of themselves in every Minnesota community.

We celebrate that two transgender people, Phillipe Cunningham and Andrea Jenkins, both with deep and broad experience, have stepped up to public service and won election to the Minneapolis City Council. In Virginia, we are delighted to welcome the first transgender member of a state legislature elected as an out transgender person, Danica Roem. We know that they all will serve their constituents with distinction and hard work.

Minnesota DFL Chair Ken Martin also called Franson out:

“Minnesota made history Tuesday night. Voters elected the first two openly transgender African-American candidates to City Council in the nation. Republican Representative Franson’s hurtful remarks attempt to cheapen this historic victory and take the wind out of the sails of equality. We won’t let that happen,”

“In the face of divisive rhetoric at the national level, Minnesotans are doubling down in our efforts to ensure the diversity of our government reflects the diversity of our people. We are immensely proud of Andrea Jenkins and Phillipe Cunningham. We know they will work tirelessly to serve the people they represent equally and without prejudice, unlike Representative Franson.”

Haters gotta hate.   Franson, sensing a backlash developing around her tweets, issued a non apology for it later.

Wouldn't be the first time a Republican hated on a trans woman for their own political gain, and probably won't be the last until they start losing their legislative seats with more frequency like Bigot Bob Marshall did in Virginia.

Councilmembers-elect Andrea Jenkins and  Phillipe Cunningham getting elected is a big deal to me, their constituents in Wards 4 and 8,  the DFL Party, to every Black trans person in the nation and everyone else inspired by their #BlackTransExcellence.
