Why Is A So Called GLBT Election Exit Poll Excluding The 'T'?

Since the 1990's a consortium of five networks NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, and Fox along with the Associated Press have contracted with the New Jersey based Edison Research polling firm to conduct a national exit poll not only during the congressional midterms, but also during presidential elections.

In the 2000, 2004 and 2008 presidential elections 4% of the respondents that took part in election exit polling have responded YES to the question, “Are you gay, lesbian, or bisexual?”

Notice who isn't included in this question despite the fact that some of my transbrothers and transsisters identify as gay, lesbian or bisexual.

Joe Lenski, the executive vice president of Edison Research, told the Washington Blade that the exit poll for the 2012 presidential election won’t seek to identify transgender voters through a lengthy questionnaire given to voters as they leave polling places across the country.

“We’ve tried to keep that wording as consistent as possible across elections and that’s the way it’s been asked in the last decade at least,” he said.

Umm Joe, the weak azz 'that's the way it's been done before' excuse doesn't compute with me, who has voted in every presidential and congressional midterm election since 1980 and other trans voters around the country.  It's also frankly insulting to us as well. 

Some of those people you ask those questions as they leave polling places happen to be trans people who are also part of the rainbow community. 

It's important that we transfolks be counted in your polling data in light of the fact we are not only American citizens exercising our civic duty, but we're working to get trans human rights laws passed all over this country.   We need to have that data handy to get reluctant legislators hipped to the fact they have trans constituents in their districts.

Another Trans Rights Poll For Y'all To Get Busy On

In the wake of the ongoing concern about whether a revised air transportation regulation actually bans trans Canadians from flying, the CBC website has a poll question up asking if transgender Canadians should be protected by a parliamentary bill.

There have been 1763 people who have weighed in on this as of the time I compiled this post and so far the YES votes outnumber the NO and I'M NOT SURE ones  

You know what my answer to that is, and to make sure the Harper Government and the haters of our trans cousins get the message, take some time to help our Canadian trans cousins out.

Need Some Help With A Trans Issue Poll

Washington DC television station WJLA-TV in the wake of transphobes calling for a boycott of the 2012 Girl Scout cookie drive because of the admittance of trans child Bobbi Montoya is asking this question on its site.

Should the Girl Scouts allow transgender children to join?

At the time I complied this post it was 292 YES votes or 74.68% to 99 NO votes or 25.32% against.

You know where I stand on that and have already voted on it, but since this poll is from a Washington DC television station, it's vitally important the result favors us so it can't be used by the Forces of Intolerance against our human rights struggle as a talking point.

TransGriot Update  Thanks good people!   As of 6 PM CST it was 9,962 YES votes 98.03% to 200 NO votes against 1.97%   At 8 PM CST it was 17,053 YES votes 98.36% to 285 NO votes against 1.64%

Piss On This Pee Poll

Our local Faux Noise affiliate in Houston is at it again with another jacked up anti-trans poll question in the wake of an African-American trans woman being arrested November 17 for using the restroom appropriate for her gender presentation because of some trifling behind security guard.

Per the code (and a lawsuit filed by a cis female against the city for being arrested in 1990 for not waiting for the long women's lines and instead using the men's room at the Summit, you must be proven to enter a  restroom in Houston with THE INTENT TO CREATE A DISTURBANCE.

Q: Would you be bothered by a transgendered person being in a public restroom with you?

As of 10:00 AM CST the poll is at 55.7% NO and 44.3% YES, so your Houston trans family needs some Bristol style vote early and often bumrushing of this poll to create another blowout win for Lone Star trans fairness.
