HISD Trustee Faces The Music Over Homophobic Campaign Flier

I mentioned that HISD's Thursday's night board meeting was going to be a contentious and packed one at the Hattie Mae White Educational Support Building, and it was.

The board room had a standing room only crowd on the inside, protesters holding signs and chanting outside and our local H-town media recording it all.

The crowd was there to take HISD board Trustee Manuel Rodriguez to task over a homophobic campaign flier he aimed at his opponent Ramiro Fonseca in the extremely tight Position III race that he won reelection to by a mere 24 seats.

If you were wondering why I was so enthusiastic about Brittany Novotny's historic run for the Oklahoma state legislature against homophobic state Rep. Sally Kern (R-OKC), seems like according to Right Wing Watch she's doubling down on her ridiculous commentary that homosexuality is a greater threat to the USA than terrorism..

You know if you just look at it in practical terms, which has destroyed and ended the life of more people? Terrorism attack here in America or HIV/AIDS? In the last twenty years, fifteen to twenty years, we’ve had maybe three terrorist attacks on our soil with a little over 5,000 people regrettably losing their lives. In the same time frame, there have been hundreds of thousands who have died because of having AIDS. So which one’s the biggest threat? And you know, every day our young people, adults too, but especially our young people, are bombarded at school, in movies, in music, on TV, in the mall, in magazines, they’re bombarded with ‘homosexuality is normal and natural.’ It’s something they have to deal with every day. Fortunately we don’t have to deal with a terrorist attack every day, and that’s what I mean.

No, Sally.  IGNORANCE, especially ignorance peddled by conservafools like you ifor political gain is the s the greatest threat to America right now.    Guess you conveniently forgot about all the terrorist activity executed by people with your conservafool belief systems like abortion clinic bombings and the 1995 one that happened in your own district.

And that's before I even start touching on the one hundred plus years of terrorist activity that was aimed at my people.

'Dynamite Bob' Chambers ring a bell?   The Ku Klux Klan?  

As W.E.B. Du Bois so eloquently stated over a century ago, "Either the United States will destroy ignorance or ignorance will destroy the United States."

You are prima facie evidence of that ignorance that is running rampant in conservafool ranks and is doing serious damage to our country.

Uganda's 'Kill The Gays' Bill Is Still Alive

If y'all thought that fundie Ugandan legislator David Bahati's 'Kill The Gays' bill was dead and everything was copasetic for Ugandan TBLG people, time to wake up and restart the protesting.

Despite massive international pressure placed on Uganda to drop the odious legislation that Bahati introduced as a Private Member's Bill in October 2009, he is quoted as saying, "Every single day of my life now I am still pushing that it passes."

His comments also came after the Rolling Stone paper in Uganda published a list of known gay people in the country that triggered attacks on them.and forcing some into hiding.

The only thing keeping the Anti-Homosexuality bill from passing according to Bahati is Ugandan president Yoweri Musaveni's fear of international sanctions if they do pas the draconian bill, which calls for jailing and execution of gay people. 

The Anti-Homosexuality bill is probably the wet dream of our Reichers in the States.   It would criminalize homosexuality in Uganda and subject people to the death penalty who have previous convictions, are HIV-positive or engage in same gender sexual relations with persons under 18 years of age. 

The bill also includes provisions for punishing Ugandans who engage in same gender sexual relations outside of Uganda and asserting that they may be extradited back to the country for punishment.  

It even includes penalties for individuals, companies, media organizations, or non governmental organizations that support GLBT rights..

The world needs to speak up and speak loudly with one voice right fracking now before another murderous orgy of genocidal killing gets unleashed aimed at Uganda's GLBT population.

World Series Homophobia

I was happy to see the Texas Rangers finally win the American League championship for the first time in their club history against the Evil Baseball Empire (the NY Yankees) last week.

Leading up to the initial game of the World Series last night I was torn between rooting for the home state team even if they do play in (yuck) the Dallas metro area and the National League champion San Francisco Giants.   Ranger manager Ron Washington is seeking to become only the second African-American manager to win a World Series title, team president Nolan Ryan used to be an Astro and I was leaning slightly in the Rangers direction.    But Giants manger Bruce Bochy once played for the Astros as well. 


But after some comments from some nekulturny Rangers fans branding this edition of the 2010 World Series as the 'Steers vs Queers' and this blog post letting fly with homophobic commentary aimed at the city of San Francisco and midterm election Teabagger rhetoric, I'm picking a side now.

Go Giants!

Noted in Game One the 'Steers' got beat by the 'Queers' 11-7.

Gentlemen of Midland, Consider yourselves placed upon notice 

Whereas a Director of your incorporated governmental unit has advocated for the death of LGBT students and whereas the deaths of LGBT students under dire circumstances as the result of policy and/or neglect by the directors and administrators of the responsible incorporated governmental units/school districts are a matter of public record and national concern, I hereby serve notice that any acts of violence against LGBT students or any action against LGBT students that result causally in self destructive acts shall be considered by myself and nearly every other litigator in the United States as the result of policy, desire and intent enunciated by one of the policy making directors of said incorporated governmental unit known as the Midland School District and that liabilities of a financial nature, both remunerative and punitive, are perforce substantially higher under USCA standards and applicable Federal case law, with a "Hate Crimes" modifier also attaching in terms of possible criminal remedies.

In other words, if anything happens to another LGBT student at Midland, you are all soooooooooo screwed.

Eddie Long..Another Hypocrite Bites The Dust

I don't like megachurch ministers that preach the BS  'prosperity gospel',    Much of my distaste for it is rooted in my belief it has distracted them from fulfilling the Black Church's traditional role of speaking truth to power on behalf of the downtrodden and oppressed against the powerful.

Another of the trends that bothered me was starting in the late 80's early 90's observing many of these same large church pastors in cities across the nation suddenly started declaring themselves to be conservative Republicans.

One of the megachirch ministers I had a special distaste for was Eddie Long.in the ATL.   In addition to his 'hate on gays' preaching, he bragged about his close GOP ties.   I also haven't liked him ever since he cranked up that 2004 anti-marriage equality march that started at the foot of  Dr. King's grave. Seeing pictures of him hugging George W. Bush sent my disgust quotient to genius level..

New Birth Missionary Baptist Church had such a negative anti-gay rep that Julian Bond refused to step inside its arena sized sanctuary in Lithonia, GA for the 2006 funeral of his best friend Coretta Scott King.

Now the clock's ticking on the start of this Sunday's highly anticipated service at New Birth to see not only what he's going to say with the unblinking eye of the nation upon him, but see if this homophobic hypocrite is going to step down from his position as senior pastor of the church..  .

And the Black GLBT/SGL community and our allies are gleefully watching every minute of his very public fall from grace.
