Kim Coco Iwamoto Falls Short In Hawaii Senate Primary Election

A little electoral bad news out of Hawaii.

Our sis and Hawaii Human Rights Commissioner  Kim Coco Iwamoto was in a three way Democratic primary race for a state senate seat that came open with the retirement of longtime Sen. Suzanne Chun Oakland (D).

The primary election was held on August 13, and the voters of Senate District 13 have spoken. After all the ballots in the race were cast and counted, they chose Karl Rhoads to be the Democratic Party nominee for the Senate District 13 seat.

Rhoads will take on Republican nominee Rod Tam, who was unopposed in his race and Libertarian Harry Ozols on November 8 for the Hawaii Senate District 13 seat.

Rhoads got 3,605 votes, or 41.8% of the votes cast to Iwamoto's 2,530 votes, or 29.4% of the votes cast by Senate District 13 Democratic primary voters.   Keone Nakoa polled 1,865 votes, or 21.6%.

While this is disappointing news,  hopefully this is just a temporary setback and there is a bigger, better electoral office in Kim Coco's future .

Congrats Leslie Herod!

There are people who you cross paths with at times in your life that when you meet them, you can sense they are destined for greatness.

One of those people for me was Leslie Herod, and I first met her back in 2013 during one of my Washington DC trips when she was working for the Gill Foundation. She just impressed me at the time and I made a mental note to keep an eye on this rising star in our ranks.  Wasn't surprised when she ended up as one of the four co-chairs of Creating Change when it was held in Denver last year, and enjoy talking to her when I get some quality time with her when our paths cross.

Been aware she was running for the Colorado House in Denver's HD-8.  The incumbent state rep for the district in Beth McCann decided not to run for reelection, and Leslie's candidacy, even though I'm 1000 miles away from her, is one I've been enthusiastic about and keeping up with as it has progressed.

Leslie HerodLast night I discovered she handily won her Democratic primary race for the HD-8 seat with 60% of the 9399 votes cast over Aaron Goldhamer,   Since that district and its demographics lean heavily Democratic, it's looking good for her to be the person taking the oath of office when the next session of the Colorado legislature kicks off on January 12, 2017.

But before she gets to that point, there's the matter of the general election on November 8 and getting past her Republican opponent for the HD-8 seat in Evan Vanderpool.

So congrats on getting another step closer to becoming Rep-elect Leslie Herod!  I know that the residents of HD 8, your supporters, and your campaign team are doing everything possible to ensure that you'll be their representative at the statehouse.

And I couldn't be prouder of you as I watch you accomplish that goal..

Bermuda Marriage Equality Referendum Failing

I've been watching the elections returns coming out of Bermuda over their non-binding referendum on marriage equality in which there were two questions on the ballot as Bermudians went to the polls yesterday starting at 8 AM until 8 PM Bermuda time.

Are you in favour of same sex marriages in Bermuda?
Are you in favour of civil unions in Bermuda?

As I write this post at midnight CDT Houston time, both questions, with 41% of the vote counted, are losing badly by a nearly two to one margin.

On the same sex marriage question, there have been 12.670 NO votes cast versus 5797 YES votes.
Civil unions aren't fairing much better.  11,589 NO votes have been cast versus 6812 YES votes.

And the folks who are ecstatic about how the referendum is going are the Preserve Marriage peeps, who as you probably guessed, got an assist from US based haters meddling in Bermuda's electoral business and were pushing a NO NO vote with the usual gaybaiting and lies.

The Preserve Marriage opposition also stated that no matter the result, they would continue as an organization after this referendum.

Meanwhile Marriage Equality Bermuda was fighting not only the lies of their opponents, but to get their fellow Bermudians to do the right thing and vote YES YES.

No matter the result, I still have a problem with a majority group voting on the human rights of a marginalized minority group, and using deceptive tactics and outright lies to ensure victory at the ballot box in order to continue to oppress them.

TransGriot Update:  Final results are that both questions failed.   Same gender marriage by a 69% margin, civil unions by a 63% margin.  The good news was that the 44% turnout was under the 50% threshold needed to make the results binding.

But the Bermudan government was planning on recognizing the results regardless of the outcome and reading it as 'the will of the people'.  So supporters will have an uphill climb to make it happen or will have to do it through the courts while being fought every step of the way by the Preserve Marriage haters.

And I have no doubts the Bermudians who are on the correct side of human rights history will prevail

Clinton Wins DC Primary

As expected Sec. Hillary Clinton closed out the 2016 Democratic nomination contests with another victory as she clobbered Sen. Bernie Sanders in the DC primary.

The huge win once again fit the pattern that has been established since March in Clinton taking diverse primary electorates, and solidifies her status as the presumptive Democratic nominee for president.

And which DC having a large African-American population, the group of Democratic voters that has overwhelmingly supported her in this primary season, basically made the point that in Democratic Party politics, Black voters matter.

As she was capturing this last primary, she and Sanders were meeting at the Capital Hilton to sort out the terms of his exit from the presidential race so she can pivot to attacking Donald Trump full time.

And we need her to start clobbering Trump sooner and not later.

It's Official! Hillary Clinton Makes History!

For the first time in US history, we got to watch as a woman  took the stage to claim victory in a major party primary.   Eight years ago Sec. Hillary Clinton came just short of the nomination. but remarked in her speech that '18 million cracks had been made in the glass ceiling'.

Tonight, that glass ceiling was shattered as she became the presumptive presidential nominee of the Democratic Party after wins in New Jersey, New Mexico, South Dakota, and leading big in California.

Sen. Sanders kept to his usual pattern of taking caucuses in predominately white states when he won the North.Dakota caucus and the Montana primary.

As I was listening to her victory speech, had to think about the late Rep. Shirley Chisholm, who ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1972 and fell short of it while fighting the boys club in the party every step of the way.   Chisholm's run paved the way for Jesse Jackson, .and later Barack Obama to break through and become the current two term occupant of the Oval Office.

Now we may be witnessing history again as Clinton gets a step closer to becoming our nation's first woman president.   She was congratulated by President Obama for clinching the requisite delegates to lock down presumptive nominee status. .

As for the big delegate prize of California, Clinton at the time of this writing was up by double digits in the Golden State with 39% of the vote counted.

We probably won't know until tomorrow who won the state, but the trendlines so.far favor Clinton.

But what we do know is that with the wins, Clinton has not only scooped up a majority in pledged delegates, she will have won more states, have more votes over her rival with the final contest in DC happening on June 14.

And while we wait for Sen. Sanders to concede, she and her team can focus on bringing the party together and focusing on defeating Donald Trump..

One Down, One To Go In Puerto Rico

The Caribbean primary weekend is almost over, and Sec. Hillary Clinton moves even closer to clinching the Democratic Nomination and the Omega Primaries on Tuesday.

But first up was  the Virgin Islands caucuses, and it wasn't even close.  Clinton on an overwhelming victory, getting 1306 votes to Bernie Sanders 190.

That gives her a little momentum going into the Puerto Rico primary today, and the Omega Tuesday primaries in which  California, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota and South Dakota all have nominating contests, with the huge delegate prizes being California and New Jersey.

One down, one to go until we can say 'Democratic Nominee Hillary Clinton'.

Crucial Caribbean Democratic Primary Elections This Weekend

The calendar page has flipped to June and thankful for Democrats, the end of the contentious primary season is in sight with Hillary Clinton poised to make American history. .

Clinton is only 94 pledged delegates away from passing the magic 2383 delegates needed for clinching the nomination.  She has 1770 pledged delegates plus an overwhelming 520 of the 715 superdelegates available.

And for the supporters of Bernie Sanders, they realize that time is running out.  While some have resigned themselves to #FeelingTheMath and realizing that it's a matter of time before she clinches the nomination and began the process of unifying the party to take on Republican nominee Donald Trump, there are others who support Bernie who have been showing their vanillacentric privileged  behinds and ramping up the nekulturny behavior and sexist Hillary hate as this weekend, the upcoming Omega primary on June 7 and the final primary in the District of Columbia on June 14 close out the Democratic presidential primary calendar.

The Virgin Islands will have their caucus today with 12 delegates available, and Puerto Rico will follow that up with their primary election tomorrow in which 67 delegates will be up for grabs.

If nothing else, the winners of these Caribbean weekend contests can claim having momentum into the Omega primary June 7.

For my readers in the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, all i ask is that you handle your business and vote.

Danni Askini Suspends Washington State Legislative Campaign

Askini_Teaser
I've been happy to hear about trans people stepping up to run for state legislative offices in this 2016 election cycle.  I consider trans people being in our state legislatures and eventually the US Congress to be the next vital step to pushing our civil rights movement to the next level.

I recently heard some disappointing news recently out of Washington state. Danni Askini is dropping out of the race for an open legislative seat in Washington's 43rd District to focus on her executive director duties at the Gender Justice League.

"I have been overwhelmed by the support our campaign has received since I filed in March," said Askini in a press statement. "This decision has weighed heavily on me, but I have come to the conclusion that I cannot run the campaign for State Representative this district and my community deserve while also fighting attacks both nationally and across our state on transgender rights."

The local attack on trans rights she's talking about is I-1515, an attempt by the haters to roll back the Washington's trans human rights protections that have been in effect for a decade and must be stopped.

The Washington Won't Discriminate coalition has been established to fight the unjust initiative and keep it off the November ballot   A decline to sign campaign is underway, and it will be determined in July if I-1515 has enough signatures to qualify.

"I think people understand that this is a unique challenge," Askini said about I-1515.  "It's new territory for the community and it is unfortunately an all hands on deck issue."

While I and her supporters understand why she's dropping out of the race, it's still disappointing news.

The $33,000 in surplus funds raised for Askini's run for office will be distributed to several organizations that include the Pride Foundation, Legal Voice and the Transgender Law Center.

Askini's withdrawal from the race she announced for back in March is additionally disappointing because she was considered the front runner in this crowded race.  Had she been successful in capturing the 43rd District seat, she would have become the first out trans person elected to the Washington State Legislature.

It still leaves six people in a crowded field to fill the seat that opened up after state rep Brady Walkinshaw resigned to run for the 7th Congressional District being vacated by retiring Rep. Jim McDermott (D-WA)

Kentucky And Oregon Presidential Primaries Today

The Kentucky and Oregon presidential primary elections are happening today, and as a former resident of the Bluegrass state that spent nearly a decade there, I'm going to be watching with more than a passing interest.

Not only will I be watching the contentious Democratic primary contest between Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton that is creeping toward a June 14 conclusion. . Despite Sanders win last week, the delegate math continues to point to the inevitable conclusion the Sec Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic nominee to the consternation of the supporters of Sen. Sanders.

As a person who once called Kentucky home,  I'm also going to be checking many of the down ballot races in the commonwealth, and especially one in Louisville's 41st House District.  My homegirl and former Louisville Metro Councilmember Attica Woodson Scott is taking on a 34 year DINO incumbent in Rep Tom Riner in that one..

If Scott is successful in knocking him off in their Democratic Primary race, it puts her a step closer to becoming the first African-American woman elected to the Kentucky House since 2000.

But it's now up to the voters of Kentucky's 41st District to choose who will represent them in Frankfort, and hope it's Attica when the polls close later this evening.

And hope that all my TransGriot readers across the commonwealth of Kentucky and in my other adopted hometown of Louisville take some time out of their busy schedules to exercise their right to vote..

Geraldine Roman Elected To Philippine Congress!

It's official!   You can now call her Congresswoman-elect Roman!
49 year old Geraldine Roman has made Philippine and world trans history by becoming the first out trans person elected to the Philippine Congress!

She was favored to win her race thanks in large part to her mother preceding her in the First District of Bataan House seat and serving for nine years, and her father being also a political heavyweight in their native Bataan region.

She didn't disappoint on election day.

At 94.83% of the national election returns processed, she leads with over 102,000 votes.
With 95% of the vote counted, Roman is cruising to a comfortable win over her opponent Danny Malana in their First Legislative District of Bataan race to get her first three year term as a Philippine congress member

Dindi Tan, a trans advocate in the Philippines and a former board member of the QC Pride Council there, is just as excited about the historic election of Roman as much of the international trans community is.

She is hopeful that Roman's election to the Philippine Congress results in more positive changes LGBT rights wise in her nation
"For a country that has yet to catch up with the significant LGBT rights developments and inroads around the world, the election victory of Congresswoman-elect Geraldine Roman is an inspiration by itself for a community that has long yearned for its own voice in the halls of Philippine Congress,"said Tan.
"Her election is a breath of fresh air and is welcomed with great optimism by the Philippine trans community. Her being the first openly trans woman voted into Congress is a clear testament that the tide is slowly shifting to our favor. For the longest time, the Philippine LGBT community has persevered in lobbying for a national law on anti-discrimination. It has taken us 16 long years and counting. We hope that with the election of young blood political movers like Roman, we are rest assured that the lobby will take on an easier path," Tan continued.
"While we celebrate her victory, we also give meaning to the political statement that her election entails-- that politics in the Philippines is slowly becoming more and more embracing of the LGBT agenda. By breaking the glass ceiling in politics, she has paved the way for others like us. We look forward to working with her in Congress and in pushing for more gender-inclusive policies and the advancement of the rights of LGBT people."
She also promised to take on the rigid gender identification laws in the Philippines.
"This is such a history-in-the-making for the LGBT movement on this side of the globe,." added Tan.
Roman is now part of an elite sorority of out trans feminine politicians internationally who have been elected to their national legislatures that includes Georgina Beyer (NZ), Vladimir Luxuria (Italy), Anna Grodzka (Poland), Michelle Suarez Bertora (Uruguay) and Tamara Adrian (Venezuela)

In her remarks to me concerning this historic win, Naomi Fontanos, the executive director of GANDA Filipinas was also excited and optimistic about the upcoming term of Congresswoman-elect Roman.

"Yes. I am very happy that herstory was made today with Ms Geraldine Roman winning the congressional race in Bataan. While it is radical that she is the first openly out transwoman to be elected in Philippines Congress, she is also undeniably a product of a political dynasty that has dominated local politics in Bataan for a long time.' said Fontanos.
"This is a historic moment though, and I want to focus on the many good things that Ms Roman can bring to the Lower House of the Philippine Congress. I laud the fact that she has openly stated that she would make legal gender change part of her legislative agenda," she added.

Roman is the sixth out trans person worldwide to have accomplished that feat, and the second in the Asia-Pacific region after Georgina Beyer of New Zealand, who was the first out trans person in the world to do so in 1999..
And while Congresswoman-elect Roman is officially representing her constituents in the 1st Legislative District of Bataan, she is also by default the defacto representative of all TBLG people in the Philippines as well.

Congratulations Congresswoman-elect Roman!.   May you be successful in representing not only the voters of the 1st Legislative District of Bataan, but also your Filipino TBLG siblings across the country.

TransGriot Update: Roman won her race in a landslide:  106,315 votes to 64,643 votes for her opponent Danny Malana

Clinton Gets 4 Out Of 5 Northeastern States

The race for the Democratic party nomination may not be officially over until June 14, but Sec. Hillary Clinton took four out of five northeastern states to get another step closer to clinching the nomination. .

Sanders only win was in Rhode Island, which was a semi closed primary state that he won  55%-43%.   The other states were closed primaries with predictable results.   Clinton narrowly won Connecticut by six points, , Delaware and the big prizes of Maryland (118 delegates) and Pennsylvania (210).

Three states she won by blowout, which is bad news once again for a Sanders campaign desperately trying to cut into her large delegate lead   She won Maryland, with its large African-American population by 30 points, Delaware by 20 points and Pennsylvania by 12 points

The obese opera singer may not be singing the 'It's Over" aria, but is definitely doing sound checks.

Next up is the Indiana primary on May 3 in which 92 delegates will be up for grabs.

Hillary's In A Winning New York State Of Mind

I'm in such a good mood tonight I feel like singing.

Start spreading the news,
We voted today
Hillary Clinton beat Bernie's azz in New York, New York

Okay, I'll spare you Sanders folks the rest of the song I was gleefully writing, but did I not tell y'all last month that Bernie Sanders failure to connect with Black voters would cost him the nomination?

Once again. Moni knows a little something something about a lot of subjects, and especially politics.

Sanders outspent the Clinton campaign in New York, had all those YUGE rallies, the Brooklyn debate with Spike Lee mugging for the cameras, and went negative, but the result was predictably the same with Clinton cleaned his clock in another diverse state with a large delegate cache available.

Slanders Sanders also made some unforced errors in New York with the sliming of Clinton as 'unqualified', the disastrous New York Daily News interview that revealed he hasn't thought about how he will achieve what he is proposing in his standard stump speeches, and his surrogates engaging in more unsolicited misogyny by making references to 'corporate whores' and throwing dollar bills at Clinton.

With 98% of the votes counted, Clinton won by 16 points, garnered over a million votes and won in addition to New York City, Long Island and the affluent collar counties, Buffalo, Syracuse and Rochester

Far from the predicted Sanders win, it was a convincing Clinton blowout victory that gets her the lionesses share of the 291 delegates available.  It sets her up nicely for the five upcoming closed primary contests on April 26 in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania that could be the knockout punch for the Sanders campaign fading hopes of hijacking the Democratic presidential nomination.

A gleeful Clinton touted her successes during her victory speech.  "In this campaign, we've won in every region of the country, from the North to the South to the East to the West.  But this one's personal. New Yorkers, you've always had my back, and I've always tried to have yours." she said. "This campaign is the only campaign, Democrat or Republican, to win more than ten million votes."

And in more bad news for the Sanders campaign, in addition to Clinton padding her already large delegate lead and getting another YUGE step closer to securing the Democratic nomination, in the five April 26 contests. Maryland and Pennsylvania not only have large delegate hauls, but also have large African-American populations, with African-Americans making up 30% of the population in MD.

#BlackVotersMatter in our party Bernie, and once again that message got sent loud and clear in this closed New York primary.

Looks like we'll have to send it again next Tuesday.

New York Primary Election Today

After nine days of hard fought campaigning, New York state goes to the polls for their primary elections on the Democratic and Republican sides in a few hours.

It's the state in which Hillary Clinton has resided in since 2001, was elected twice to represent in the US Senate, and if the polling holds up (and the last poll showed Hillary Clinton maintaining a double digit lead), she will once again continue the pattern of blowout wins in the big delegate haul states that look like the Democratic Party.

How many delegates are at stake?  291 delegates total are up for grabs, and in more cascading bad news for the Sanders campaign, it's a closed primary state, which means only registered Democrats can participate.

It's also a state with an 18% Black population.   #BlackVotersMatter, but then again, we've been sending that message since Nevada.

So we'll find out in a few hours who will take New York and get the momentum leading up to April 26 and the five Northeastern states that will be having primaries on that date.

Michigan And Mississippi Primary Votes Today

Two more primary elections are taking place today in Michigan and Mississippi in the wake of Sanders supporters getting all happy over their three caucus wins in Kansas, Maine and Nebraska while Clinton took Louisiana in another blowout fueled by Black voters.

But what they conveniently forget to mention is that despite the caucus wins in (ho hum) predominately white states, by the proportional allocation rules, Clinton still walked away with 76 delegates while Sanders came away with only 64 delegates.

Drip, drip drip.   That's a +12 delegate gain for Clinton to add to her growing delegate lead, and it's only going to get better for her starting tonight..

Told y'all that failure to connect with Back voters would cost him the nomination.  And as the media finally does the deep tissue vetting of Sanders, a problematic picture is emerging even before he opened mouth and inserted foot in it during that Flint debate with the stereotype laced comment about Black people just in time for the Michigan and Mississippi primaries.  .

Michigan will be the big prize today with 130 delegates available, with Mississippi chipping in 35 more before this upcoming cluster of Saturday primary elections in Florida, Illinois, Missouri, North Carolina and Ohio that are worth 691 electoral votes.

And yeah, not only is Clinton leading in Michigan and Mississippi, she's also leading in all five states voting on Saturday,.  Black Democratic voters will have a major say in who emerges victorious.in the wake of Bernie Sanders continuing to fail to connect with Black voters.

Will be fun to watch it play out in a few hours.

Congrats Jenifer On Your Historic Win!

Jenifer Rene Pool Winner
While everyone was focused last night on the big Super Tuesday delegate fight between the presidential candidates from both parties, a little trans history was made in Houston on election night.

Jenifer Rene Pool, who has made three runs for Houston City Council, shifted gears and ran for the Democratic nomination in the Harris County Commissioners Court Precinct 3 race to see who would take on longtime Republican commissioner Steve Radack.

Pool racked up a decisive win against her Democratic primary challenger, racking up 78% of the vote.  She becomes the first out transperson to win a primary election contest in Harris County and the state of Texas, and now takes on the formidable challenge of unseating a longtime conservative incumbent on Harris County Commissioner's Court.

Congrats on your history making achievement Jenifer!   Now let's take it to the next step and get you that seat at the Harris County Commissioner's Court table!

It's Super Tuesday!

In a few hours the polls are opening across eleven states for people to cast their ballots in the Democratic primary battle between Sec Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders.

After posting her own blowout win in South Carolina, Sec. Clinton is seeking to keep that momentum going in the Super Tuesday states and collect the lion's share of the 1017 delegates up for grabs with the help of the Black vote.

Voters in America Samoa, Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia and my home state of Texas will be headed to polling places and caucuses.

We'll see when the polls start closing at 7 PM ET which way the Democratic contest goes after voters in the 12 primarily Southern states have their say in who should be the person who gets our party's nomination in not only the presidential contests, but a long list of state and local races and judicial seats.

If early voting was available in your Super Tuesday state and you didn't get the opportunity to participate in it, hope you take the time to do so today.

In Texas. polls will be open from 7 AM-7 PM and I hope you exercise your right to vote.

Hillary Wins In Nevada!

Today's Nevada Democratic Caucus had much riding on them for both sides in this 2016 Democratic presidential nomination race.  While Sen. Bernie Sanders was coming off a huge double digit win in New Hampshire and had some momentum going in, he still hadn't proved yet that he can get non-white Democrats to #FeelTheBern.

Nevada would offer him and his supporters their first chance to prove that he could win in a state that wasn't overwhelmingly white.  Nevada has a 27% Latinx and 13% African-American population largely concentrated in Las Vegas and Reno.

Meanwhile Secretary Clinton was looking to rebound from the New Hampshire thumping.

After spending several months organizing in Nevada, she and her campaign team were cautiously optimistic they could pull out a much needed win in the Silver State.

But the Sanders campaign spent heavily to match her organization here and air commercials in local media.   They also trumpeted media polls they were running even with Clinton in the runup to today's caucus.

But when the dust settled, it was Clinton's support with non-white voters and her ground game that carried the day.  Clinton got 52.6% of the caucus attendees to say #ImWithHer with just 47.3% going to Sanders.   It was a critical win to calm the nerves of her supporters going into Saturday's South Carolina Democratic Primary and with Super Tuesday looming on March 1.

What is more ominous for Sanders supporters is that African-American voters, who only make up about 13% of the Nevada electorate are feeling Hillary.  They broke 76%-22% for Clinton and she rolled to wins in six of the state's majority Black precincts.  Nevada's Latinx voters also broke for Clinton.

And South Carolina comes up fast this Saturday along with the Super Tuesday primaries on March 1 in which many of the Southern states involved, including Texas which is in early voting now, have large percentages of non-white voters.

We will see what transpires in South Carolina, especially in light of the fact that more superdelegates and party leaders are declaring for Clinton including Rep. James Clyburn. (D-SC) and Clinton picked up more endorsements here in Texas, where 222 delegates are at stake.

Dave Wilson Up To His Political Dirty Tricks Again In TX 148 Race

Dave Wilson
Transphobic homohater Dave Wilson, fresh off a 2013 campaign in which he pulled a Rachael Dolezal and misrepresented himself as Black to narrowly get elected to a six year term on the Houston Community College board, is trying to lie his way into office again.

This time he's trying to move up the political food chain and get a state House seat, and the long time LGBT bigot is trying to run in the Democratic primary against longtime state Rep. Jessica Farrar in House District 148.

With early voting just starting for the March 1 primary and running until February 26, Wilson just unleashed a deceptive mailer in which he posted a picture of Farrar's home  and her car with the state official license plate affixed to it to claim that she doesn't live in her Houston district, but in Austin.

The reality is Farrar's home is in the middle of TX 148,

It's also laughable that Wilson would try to project his own situation on someone else because he was busted and sued for doing exactly what he is falsely accusing Rep. Farrar of.doing.

And he bragged about what he pulled off in the afterglow of his HCC race that he won by 26 votes.

Voters of HD 148, please don't fall for the okey doke.  make sure you rebuke this fool and send Rep Farrar to victory against this political charlatan..

Will Houston LGBT History Be Made Tonight?

The Houston GLBT Political Caucus was founded in 1975 and calls itself the South's oldest LGBT political organization.  It is one in which if you lean liberal progressive in your politics, the Caucus endorsement is a highly sought after and fought over endorsement in local races.

The caucus endorsement is so highly prized there are people who are still upset they failed to get it.

The Caucus is also an organization that has had serve as its president former mayor Annise Parker and former Houston City Councilmember Sue Lovell among other storied names in our Houston LGBT community ranks.

At tonight's Houston GLBT Caucus meeting history may be made tonight as Maverick Welsh's term as Caucus president ends and his replacement is selected.

The person that people are considering as a leading candidate for the position is attorney Fran Watson.  Fran currently serves on the Caucus board, has had increasing visibility and a front line presence in H-town activist circles,  is involved in other Houston human rights issues including HERO, and is a thoughtful leader who would be amazing in that role.  If she's elected, she would become the first African-American woman to head the organization.

We'll find out at 7 PM at the Caucus Meeting tonight at the Montrose Center if that history is made.

TransGriot Update:  Yep, it was.  Congrats, Fran!
