Oilers Win Football Championship!

The Pearland High School Oilers that is.

The Oilers completed a 16-0 season for the ages to earn what they wanted for Christmas, the Texas 5A Division I football championship.

Playing in their first state championship game as a huge underdog to three time and defending state champion Euless Trinity, the Oilers knocked off the state number one and number one nationally ranked Trojans in their backyard 28-24 before a crowd of 43,321 at the 'Jerrydome'.

As they have done during the season and this playoff run, they did so in dramatic fashion.  Oilers running back and game MVP Dustin Garrison broke up the fourth down Trojan pass intended for Brandon Carter inside the five yard line with six seconds left to preserve the heart stopping win.

It was the fifth time during this magical season that the Oilers won in the final minute.   One of those wins was a dramatic 38-35 win over regional powerhouse Katy before 41,368 in the Region III-5A finals at Rice Stadium to help them earn their first state title berth in their school history.

This latest last minute win results in the 5A Division I title coming back to the Houston metro area..

Go TSU Tigers!

My Coogs had a rough season that ended in a 5-7 record for them, the Texans are slouching to .500 and Rice slumped to a 4-8 record this year but (arrgh) managed to beat the Cougars 34-31.

But all is not lost for football fans living in the Houston city limits.     Besides taking joy in the fact the only way the Dallas Cowboys will be going to the Super Bowl in their own stadium is buying a ticket for it, we do have one team in the area besides Texas A&M that has a winning record.

The Texas Southern University Tigers shook off a 1-3 start that included a 16-14 loss to bitter SWAC rival Prairie View A&M to win seven straight games and capture the SWAC West crown.

The win streak included a 41-38 overtime win over perennial SWAC powerhouse Grambling in Houston that gave them the tiebreaker edge over the 'other' Tigers.

They are in Birmingham, AL today to play at legendary Legion Field.for the school's first outright SWAC title overall and their first one since 1968 when they tangle for the second time this season with SWAC East Division champion Alabama State at 1 PM CST

Back on October 2 Texas Southern rolled into Montgomery and rolled out with a 21-7 win over the Hornets to jump start their seven game winning streak.

But as the TSU players know and have probably been told ad nausuem by their coaches in the practices leading up to this week's SWAC championship showdown, it's hard to beat the same team twice in a season.     It's even harder when a championship is on the line in their opponent's home state and the opponent you've beaten is also competing for their first SWAC title since 2004

Here's hoping the Texas Southern University Tigers and coach Johnnie Cole can get one more win over the Hornets and bring that trophy back to Third Ward and The Yard.

Heh Heh Heh...'Queers' Beat 'Steers' To Take World Series

The right wing bigots in the Dallas-Fort Worth area have been billing this 2010 World Series as a battle between the 'Steers' vs 'Queers' and in the process making derogatory homophobic slams at the San Francisco Bay Area, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, California, and everything rainbow flavored.

Karma is a rhymes with witch isn't it?

Besides, that's what y'all get for having George W. Bush throw out the first pitch in Game 4.

The San Francisco Giants closed out the World Series with a 3-1 win in Arlington over the Texas Rangers to win it four games to one and claim their first major league baseball title since moving there from New York.

Congrats Giants!   They're probably still partying in the Castro.
