2011 Texas Transgender Nondiscrimination Summit At UH

One of the first events I attended when I returned to the Houston area was the 2nd Annual Texas Transgender Nondiscrimination Summit that was held on the Rice University campus.

There's been a host change, and the 3rd Annual TTNS, sponsored by the Texas Transgender Nondiscrimination Summit and the Houston GLBT Center will return to the site of the inaugural event, the campus of the University of Houston on August 12-13.

Another change this year is that there will be a registration fee to attend the TTNS..  The Early Bird discount deadline passed on May 31, so if you wish to attend, it will be $20 for regular registration and $10 for student registration.   Another deadline that passed was the May 20 submission deadline for TTNS proposed workshops

To register by mail, send your check made payable to the Houston GLBT Community Center to:
Texas Transgender Nondiscrimination Summit, P. O. Box 1095, Baytown, Texas 77522

The TTNS tackles TBLG issues pertinent to higher education.   Interested parties in higher education gather to discuss what works and what does not work in regards to codifying inclusion of  'gender identity and expression' into institutional policy.

The TTNS serves to find means to this end through discussion of divergent and respective strategies in regard to the inevitable barriers that always arise for LGBT students.

Looking forward to being back on the campus of my alma mater this August.

Blogspot Maintenance Delay

If you TransGriot readers were looking for my normal midnight and sometimes nocturnal (for me) posts, didn't happen as you may have noticed earlier today.

Blogspot was doing routine maintenance on their system, and it turned out to be a several hour fix that put the blog on read only status for a while.

It frustrated me because at the time I discovered what was going on I had some wonderful ideas for some subjects I wanted to tackle in a few posts while it was fresh on my mind.

After the delay stretched out or a few hours, finally gave up and grabbed some sleep.

Oh well, stuff happens.

Luckily for y'all I have over 3900 posts for you to catch up on, and will be doing more as the year progresses.

Upcoming 7th Annual Out Music Awards

OUTMUSIC – The LGBT Academy of Recording Arts (The LARA) (www.outmusicawards.com) proudly announces Irving Plaza as the venue sponsor for the 7th Annual OUTMUSIC Awards on Monday, May 23, 2011. Irving Plaza is part of House of Blues Entertainment, a division of Live Nation, which operates 34 clubs and theatres across the country.

“GLAAD recently honored Ricky Martin and Chely Wright for their courage to come out. I truly believe that their coming out is a true testament that homophobia does exists in the music industry. It was so exciting to share that Live Nation sees the value of supporting equality in the music industry,” says Diedra Meredith, chairwoman and CEO of OUTMUSIC –The LARA. “Having the support of LIVE NATION, the world’s largest entertainment company, is the beginning of a relationship that we hope to cultivate beyond the OUTMUSIC Awards. This is the beginning of providing more opportunities for LGBT music people in the mainstream music industry.”

Originally scheduled for December 2010, the OUTMUSIC Awards were postponed due to economic difficulties. However, in response to the postponement, the organization received offers of support from companies and individuals in the community.

“We’re proud that a historic venue like Irving Plaza can once again serve as a home to a program such as this,” said Laura Mulholland, Director of Sales. “Part of our mission is to be an integral part of the community and serving as a venue for these special types of events helps us accomplish just that.”

Dubbed the biggest night in the LGBT music industry, the coveted OMA trophy is the highest and most prestigious honor. OUTMUSIC – LGBT Academy of Recording Arts (The LARA) is the premiere 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to empower and present it’s members to a broader audience base, raise awareness and ensure that LGBT music people’s contributions to music history are acknowledged, documented and archived.
