I'm back on the campus of my alma mater in the Roy G. Cullen Building's Room 104 having deja vu moments while checking out and compiling a report on the happenings surrounding today's first day of activity for the 3rd Annual Texas Transgender Nondiscrimination Summit.

I've been looking forward to it since last year's event and I'm beyond ready to get my learn on and tell you loyal TransGriot readers what transpired today.

Day One- August 12

3rd Annual Texas Transgender Nondiscrimination Summit Begins Friday

Can't believe it's been almost a year since the last one.   The time is rapidly approaching for the start of the 3rd Annual Texas Transgender Nondiscrimination Summit

The TTNS is being held on the University of Houston campus August 12-13 and is presented by the hardworking folks of The Texas Transgender Nondiscrimination Summit team, the Houston GLBT Community Center, and the Hollyfield Foundation.  

All of this year's seminar action will be centered in Room 104 of the Roy G. Cullen Building at UH courtesy of our gracious hosts in the University of Houston's Department of  English.

We have people coming from across the Lone Star State to participate, and our keynote speakers this year will be Dr. Paige Schilt on Friday and Meghan Stabler on Saturday.

The TransGriot will be there and it's still not too late to register for those of you who would like to attend.  I'm planning on chronicling and doing posts on the TTNS happenings like I did last year.

I hope to see representatives from our local HBCU's Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M Universities in attendance as well since hello, there are transpeople of African descent who are either walking your campuses, potential students who would like to be doing so or are alums of your institutions whether you are aware of that or not.

As I mentioned in a previous paragraph, people will be coming from across the state to participate in this TTNS event.  In addition to the dynamic keynote speakers, there will be seminars, workshops, and the opportunity to meet and greet other activists and people across the Lone Star State interested in advancing civil rights inside and outside the education realm for transgender Texans

And oh yeah, did I mention the chocolate break?

3rd Annual Texas Transgender Nondiscrimination Summit Happens This Month

Looking forward to stepping back on the University of Houston campus on August 12-13 for the 3rd Annual Texas Transgender Non-Discrimination Summit.   

It's presented by The Texas Transgender Nondiscrimination Summit, the Houston GLBT Community Center, the Hollyfield Foundation, it will be held in Room 104 of the Roy G. Cullen Building on campus.

Our keynote speakers for the TTNS will be Dr.Paige Schilt on August 12 and Meghan Stabler on August 13. The TransGriot will be there in full effect along with our gracious hosts from the UH Department of English,  your generous sponsors, and your organizing team. .

3rd Annual Texas Transgender Nondiscrimination Summit Approaching

TransGriot Note:  The 3rd Annual Texas Transgender Nondiscrimination Summit on August 12-13 is rapidly approaching.  Here's more details for you folks in the Houston area and the Lone Star State who would like to attend.

The Texas Transgender Nondiscrimination Summit, the Houston GLBT Community Center, and the Hollyfield Foundation present:

3rd Annual Texas Transgender Nondiscrimination Summit, hosted by the University of Houston Department of English.

The 2011 Summit will be held at the University of Houston in the Roy G. Cullen Bldg, Room 104, on Friday, August 12 and Saturday, August 13.


The keynote speakers will be Dr Paige Schilt (Aug 12) and Megan Stabler (Aug 13).

For the third consecutive year, the ACLU will be represented at the Summit and discuss caselaw with the participants on August 12. This is exciting especially since the ACLU has presented at every Summit since its beginnings. It is now a tradition for the ACLU to talk to us at the Summit. We will also have Phyllis Frye, Frye and Associates PLLC, talking to us on August 13 about additional caselaw. Phyllis Frye is a Texas A&M and University of Houston Alum.

Currently the following colleges and universities have the phrase "gender identity and expression" included in their nondiscrimination statement:
Rice University
University of Texas Austin
South Texas College of Law
University of Texas Pan Am

The University of Houston has issued the Izza Lopez Memo indicating discrimination against transgender employment is not tolerated.

The following Texas Independent School Districts have Transgender Inclusive Policies: Houston Independent School District and Fort Worth Independent School District.

After the first day of the Summit, the Houston Transgender Unity Committee and the Houston Transgender Center have collaborated to host dinner for the attendees at their center located at 604 Pacific Houston Texas. So plan on great food and fellowship after the first day of sharing at the Summit.
