Your obsession with Greek life is entertaining. It's apparent that you're not as comfortable in your own skin as you claim to be otherwise someone your age wouldn't be writing a blog ripping into a 20 year old who has taken time to get involved in his Student Government. Your inferiority complex is so evident that I'm almost in disbelief you followed up insulting Garza by referencing a 2008 Houston Chronicle article about events that occurred 45 years ago in an attempt to justify your own prejudices. The only "narrow minded ignorance" on display is coming from yourself. Take the time to look up the racial makeup of UH's Greek life before assuming it is predominantly white -- which appears to be your go-to insult for some reason.

I'm also quite aware Oh Ignorant One, that the UH Greek system has historic African-American fraternities and sororities as part of the system.  They were part of that system when I was walking the UH campus in the early 80's.  Lynn Eusan was a charter member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc's Epsilon Lambda chapter, the same chapter my cousins both pledged three decades later when they attended UH.   

But the only visible on campus Greek opposition to the Tittsworth Act came from survey says, WHITE UH frats and sororities.  That's stating a fact,  but if you choose to call that an insult, oh well. 

I found the UH historical parallel between the Eusan story and the SGA fight to pass the Tittsworth Act compelling and highly apropos.  It  was the same exact dynamic that Lynn Eusan faced 45 years ago in her run to become UH homecoming queen.   Her main, most vocal, and racist I might add opposition to wear the UH homecoming crown came from UH's white Greeks.   The UH transgender community's major opposition to passage of the Tittsworth Act also came from UH white Greeks.  

So hmm, appears to Cougar paw waving me you UH white Greeks haven't learned anything 45 years later, but you excel in majoring in oppression. 

You don't like me stating the inconvenient for you fact that UH white Greeks were oppressors then and now in 2014 in both these on campus human rights situations, too damned bad.  

Bottom line is that UH's white Greeks were wrong then and with the passage of time look even more foolish concerning their racist opposition of Lynn Eusan ascendance to become UH's first Black homecoming queen 45 years ago. 

All you white UH Greeks, Ashley Davis Nelson, and Alan Garza, who opposed the passage of the Tittsworth Act will look just as foolish to the UH Cougar Class of 2059.

Damian for starters had been attending St Pius X HS for four years and transitioned at the end of his freshman year.   He was supported by his family, teachers, his Class of 2013 classmates and faculty.

All he asked for was to be able to graduate wearing a black robe just like the other male students were wearing at his school.  Idiots like you and Archbishop Michael Sheehan got all huffy about it.

Playtime is over.  Now it's time to 'ejumacate' you since that didn't happen for you during your formative years.  As the post you obviously didn't read stated, the Dignity For All Students Act has been filed by Rep Coleman in every Texas legislative session since 2003, and this is what it would do.

The Dignity for All Students Act would prohibit discrimination and harassment in public schools on the basis of ethnicity, color, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, religion or national origin.  It would also prohibit discrimination based on association with a person, and protects both the parents of students and whistleblowers who may report incidents of discrimination or harassment.

And as Rep Farrar said about the bill:

'There are too many painful stories and tragic endings," said Rep. Farrar. "When schools turn a blind eye towards discrimination and harassment, we have failed.  The Dignity For All Students Act will help set a tone in Texas that no type of discrimination will be tolerated in this state.  

So how is creating a tone in Texas public schools in which discrimination against anyone is not tolerated become 'indoctrination against their parents'? 

I guess when the parents are raving bigots, transphobes and homophobes, you would consider that indoctrination, huh?

Are you kidding me about your allegation that a female student was told to kiss another student and hold her hand?

This time it's Johan Baumeister, who seemed to have a problem with the March 28 guest post that Denny wrote called 'What Gay Marriage WON'T Do' that expressed his concerns about the overemphasis of the LGBT movement on marriage equality to the detriment of everything else. 

I understand that there is justification for criticism of the marriage-centric "equality" movement.

But a few points for you:

1) Don't eat your allies. It makes them not want to be our allies in the first place.

2) Don't assume you know what someone else's oppression is (like you did in your second-to-last paragraph) and then simultaneously (and justifiably) criticize them for assuming what your oppression is. It undermines all the actual, reality-based points of your argument.

3) I don't think I've heard a single person say gay marriage will fix everything.

I've heard some racist, ignorant shit from twinky, privileged, white cis-boys in WeHo. I've also heard some ignorant shit here. I get you're hurt, and left behind or left out of a lot of what the "movement" talks about.

The solution isn't to tear others down.

I'm going to give Denny his chance to respond to your comments in another guest post, but since it's my blog, I get first crack at you. 

I'm going to start this with the words of the Rev. Dr Martin Luther King, Jr, from his 'Letter From A Birmingham Jail' 

I must make two honest confessions to you, my Christian and Jewish brothers. First, I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season." Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.  

I get so tired of hearing the assertion in predominately white LGBT circles that justified criticism of the strategies taken by this movement, especially when they come from people of color, is seen as 'eating your allies' or 'tearing others down'.

If it was good enough for Dr. King when he called out in 'Letter From a Birmingham Jail' the white moderate as the biggest impediment to Black human rights, we trans and SGL African-Americans are going to speak our minds and call it like we see it in terms of the civil rights movements of our times.  

What Denny did is in the traditional mold of  Black leadership (and is what I try to role model) in speaking truth to power and questioning the wisdom of policy stances.  It's going to be contentious, but needs to be done. in order for better policy more reflective of all the voices of the LGBT community to come out of the process.  

As the late Dr. Ronald Walters defined it:

The task of Black leadership is to provide the vision, resources, tactics, and strategies that facilitate the achievement of the objectives of Black people.

These objectives have been variously described as freedom, integration, equality, liberation, or defined in the terms of specific public policies. It is a role that often requires disturbing the peace. And we constantly carry on a dialogue about the fitness of various leaders and the qualities they bring to the table to fulfill this mission.

Denny's post is echoing the thoughts of many people in Black trans and SGL World concerning the wisdom of pursuing an 'all marriage all the time' strategy when many people in our community are reeling from double digit unemployment.   And as for your other point of you never heard anyone claim gay marriage will fix everything, as recently as August 22, 2011  Richard Socarides made the claim that the achievement of marriage equality would bring trans rights along in its wake.  

To quote Dr. Jillian Weiss, "The idea that marriage equality is going to help transgender rights is a theory that has no evidence to back it up.”

Um no it didn't in New York, where trans people are STILL waiting for SONDA to be passed over a decade after they were cut out of an inclusive bill in 2002 that protects only GL people.  The same reprehensible pattern is taking shape in Maryland in which the legislative session concluded April 8 with another trans rights bill dying in committee and GL people since 2001 having rights that they once again threw transpeople under the legislative bus to get.  

As for your comment that what Denny posted is 'ignorant'...Exactly which one of those points that he discussed in the post about what gay marriage won't do is 'ignorant' in your mind?

I was forced to grow up a long time ago for my own safety and sanity in terms of coming to the realization that race matters in American society.  I also had to be cognizant of the fact there are elements of your ethnic group that truly can't stand the ground I and other non-white peeps stand and walk on.   It is you who needs to wake up and stop listening to Fox Noise or whatever right wing radio pundit you listen to 24-7-365.  

And dude let me break it down to you.  White males like you make up approximately 34% of the 2012 US voting population but hold 359 of the 535 seats (67%) in the 113th Congress. Peeps who look like you make up 93% of the CEO's of Fortune 500 companies and 74% of the college and university presidents just for starters. 

And I'll let Neo-Prodigy put you on blast for calling his name in vain. 

Since you hooked on phonics deficient behind missed it the first time in your zeal to try to label me as a 'racist' for speaking the truth and tellin' it like it T-I-S is , here we go again. 

Thanks to unacknowledged white privilege, too many whites either willfully or unwittingly confuse racism with bigotry and prejudice.

Criticism from persons of color calling attention to or talking about the systemic racism they face or the unfairness of the system doesn't add up to 'reverse racism' or the other infuriating conservaterm we hear far too often, 'playing the race card'.

How Not To Ask Me To Join My Facebook Page

One of the things about being a person of color, especially a POC activist is you never know when and where the vanillacentic privileged idiocy is going to come from.

Believe it or not the latest chapter of somebody tripping and stepping to me was on my own Facebook page.

I have over 1600 people on my personal page and over 150 people trying to get on it. I'm not trying to hit my personal page limit yet, and after I cleaned out my page of TS separatists and their sympathizers back in 2011 because they couldn't behave themselves, I instituted a rule that if you had any of those known TS separatists on your Facebook friends list, I didn't know you, you put no reason for why you wanted to join my page, you left your profile info sketchy, or you didn't come recommended by someone I personally knew and had already admitted I wasn't adding you to my page.

Last night I received a personal Facebook message from Robyn Carolyn Montague wanting to know why I hadn't approved adding her to my page.

Since we are less than a few days from the start of the London Olympic games, decided to hold off on eviscerating this troll properly until now. 

Deena wrote this comment on the Andreas Krieger post I put up in reaction to my comment introducing the New York Times article I linked to. 

i think it's unfair that you make it into a race thing. the big difference between the east german athletes doped during those days and the marion jones controversy is that she KNOWINGLY took drugs to enhance her performance. the east german athletes had no idea. in many cases, they received oral-turinabol and other testosterone-laced drugs in their early adolescence and continuing during their teenage years. this was systematic abuse of trust and they had no idea what was being done with them. this is why the medals are not being taken away or the records erased. those athletes were innocent victims. marion jones was NOT.
on another note, i'm glad i found your blog! it's definitely a great site and an important one.

It's a race thing Deena because the IOC not only took away Ben Johnson's medal in 1988 and Marion Jones' 2000 Olympic medals, they took away the medals of three American women on the 4x100 relay team she ran with who weren't taking drugs and had no knowledge of what Jones was doing, but punished them anyway.   

So Deena, the question I asked is a valid one.  Why is the IOC not snatching up the medals of every East German athlete, but has no problem taking them away from athletes of color? 

It doesn't matter if the East German athletes knew, didn't know or ignored the signs they were part of State Plan 14.25, the massive state-sponsored doping program.  The bottom line is that state sponsored cheating happened to help them get those medals and knowledge of that program extended to the highest levels of the East German government and sporting apparatus. .

There is no fracking way the East Germans went from their pedestrian performances in Munich in 1972 to a near domination of the pool in Montreal a mere four years later without somebody suspecting that something was amiss.  People in the international sporting world in the 70's and 80's either knew or suspected it..

Shirley Babashoff and others called out the East German wundermadschen swimmers about the overly muscular bodies and deep voices and were vilified for it until the truth came out after the Wall fell and reunification happened in 1990. 

The IOC has already set the precedent in taking away the medals of everybody Marion Jones was involved with in the 4X100 meter race.  Fair is fair, the same standard needs to be applied to former East German athletes and their medals need to be taken away and given to the persons who really won them..   .

Or in your vanillacentric privileged mind does that standard only apply for non-white North American athletes?

I'm amazed that race and religion are still such issues in the US.
Why using statements as being a proud African American transwoman. What does that accomplish at all? Why can't you just be a woman I will respect you anyway as a another human being. Race and religion are and have been intertwined issues in North America before the United States was founded as a nation.   The Transatlantic Slave Trade had a lot to do with that.  Remember when people who looked like you were kidnapping my ancestors and committing a monstrous human rights crime by forcibly importing them into the Western Hemisphere for unpaid labor to build European colonies and claiming you were doing 'the Lord's work' in the process?

And oh yeah, most of the haters and conservafools in this country hide behind selective interpretation of scriptures to perpetuate and try to camouflage their death grip on whiteness, white supremacy and their racism.

I AM a proud African-American transwoman and won't apologize for saying so. .Why does stating that fact bother you so much?  If you have a problem with that, too damned bad.

I'm also looking forward to seeing Brittney help lead Team USA to a fifth consecutive women's basketball gold medal when the London Olympic Games commence in a few months.

And oh BTW, the International Olympic Committee and the NCAA allow transwomen to compete in women's sports.
