We have now gone through a quarter of the 2019 NFL season with the calendar page turning to October. Week 4 was good to me because I won my second week of this year's prognostication contest despite all the upsets.
I didn't see the Texans- Panthers game because I was in downtown Houston attending the GLBT Caucus Equality Brunch. Glad I was because I probably would have been throwing things at my TV. Can y'all fire Bill O'Brien and get us a new coach?
The Cowboys lost to the Saints, so anything that shuts up the Harris County Dallas Cowchip fans is all good for me.
Who Dat? Who Dat? Who dat thought they were gonna beat dem Saints?
Enough messing with these Cowchip fans, time to get to this week's picks. Another 15 games since the Lions and Dolphins are on their bye week As usual, my picks will be in bold red print with the home team in all CAPS. Mike's Week 5 picks can be found at this link.

2019 TransGriot NFL Picks- Week 4
Week 3 ended up with me winning the week due to me getting the Texans game right.
Antonio Brown probably is done for this season as he was cut by theCheatriots Patriots after another sexual assault allegation triggered an NFL investigation. Look for him to be back playing only if he gets cleared by the league.
Back to the Texans. For the first time this season they actually played better football in the second half, and they needed it against the LA Chargers. The defense also stepped up big late to propel them to another victory.
Jadaveon who?
Time to get back to work making these picks. Only 15 games this week because the Jets and 49ers are on their bye week watching everybody else play. My picks will be in bold red print with the home team in CAPS. Mike's Week 4 picks will be here at this link.

2019 TransGriot NFL Picks -Week 3
We're in the third week of this young NFL season, and veteran quarterbacks are dropping due to injuries. Still too early to tell which teams appear to be Super Bowl contenders, but it's becoming apparent that the Miami Dolphins after being outscored 102-10 in their first two games may be on their way to the number one pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
After the Texans lost a game at the buzzer in NOLA last week, they somewhat redeemed themselves by stopping a late Jaguars two point conversion attempt at the goal line to preserve a 13-12 nail biter.
I was above .500 last week, but now trailing by a game in the prognostication contest no thanks to the Bengals loss to the 49ers.
See y'all in London, Jags. Question is will Jalen Ramsey be making that trip across The Pond with them?
Let's get to this week's picks. Another 16 games to get through since nobody has a bye week yet
My picks will be in bold red print with HOME team in CAPS. Mike's picks will be at this link.

2019 TransGriot NFL Picks -Week 2
The 2019 NFL season is underway, and so is the season long prognostication contest between myself and Mr. Watts. We're still deadlocked after i got the Bills-Jets game right and he got the Buccaneers- 49ers one correct.
And ugh, one I came 2 seconds from getting wrong was the Saints-Texans one. A 58 yard game winning field goal saved that pick because you don't go against the Saints when they are playing in the Superdome.
And yeah, Saints fans are still majorly pissed about the call in the NFC Championship Game eight months ago that cost them a trip to the Super Bowl
Gotta shake it off because there are 16 more games to pick this week and I need to build on the nice Week 1 start. Speaking of good starts, there are a few NFL teams that will be like my Texans fighting for their first win of the young NFL season so they don't fall into an 0-2 hole.
My picks will be in bold red print with the HOME team in all CAPS. Mike's picks will be at this link for you to peruse.

2019 TransGriot NFL Picks- Week 1
It's that time again. With the flipping of the calendar page to September, it means that once again I'm going to be battling Michael Watts for NFL punditry supremacy.
This year also marks the NFL's 100th season, and I want to celebrate that by taking my punditry title back.
Over the next 17 weeks defending champion Mr Watts and I will battle under these rules.
We pick the winners of each week's NFL gamed with no spread. Person with the best record at the end of the regular season will be the champ. Picks need to be posted on our blogs before the kickoff of the first NFL game of that week. Any game not selected by kickoff time of that game will be counted as a loss for that person. Tie games will be counted as a tie on that person's cumulative season record.
The road to reclaiming my NFL punditry throne starts today.
Week 1 is always the hardest one because of the changes in everyone's rosters due to retirements, free agency, the draft and trades. Some teams got better, some got worse, some will basically be the same. Some teams will suffer a plague of injuries that will wreck their season before it even gets started, and some teams that made the playoffs last year will find themselves on the outside looking in when January 2020 rolls around.
Let's get ready to rumble!
16 games to pick because all 32 NFL teams will be busy on this opening weekend. Mike's picks will be at this link. My picks will be in bold red print this year with home team in CAPS

Colin Kaepernick To Get Settlement In NFL Collusion Case
Had a feeling when the arbitrator ruled in Kaepernick's favor last August against the NFL's attempt to get summary judgement on this case, this was inevitably going to happen.
The NFL and Kaepernick announced that they have reached a settlement in his lawsuit against the NFL for blackballing him for two season over the NFL anthem protests.
Carolina Panthers safety Eric Reed, who joined Kaepernick in the initial take a knee protests when both were San Francisco 49ers teammates, also settled out of court with the league for an undisclosed amount.
Even though Reed ended up with the Panthers, there was still the issue that cropped up during the 2018 season of him shadily being 'randomly' drug tested nine times.
While the terms of the settlement for both players were not revealed, and they are subject to a confidentiality agreement, it is speculated that Kaepernick is being paid by the NFL owners somewhere in the $60 to $80 million dollar range.
The NFL Players Association also issued a statement in the wake of the announced settlements for both players.
"We are not privy to the details of the settlement, but support the decision by the players and their counsel," it read. "We continuously supported Colin and Eric from the start of their protests, participated with their lawyers throughout their legal proceedings, and were prepared to participate in the upcoming trial in pursuit of both truth and justice for what we believe the NFL and its clubs did to them. We are glad that Eric has earned a job and a new contract, and we continue to hope that Colin gets his opportunity as well."
Congratulation to both players. Justice was served in this case. Hopefully we'll see Colin on an NFL gridiron soon.

TransGriot 2018-19 NFL Playoff Predictions- Divisional Round
No thanks to the Texans forgetting they had a playoff game to play, a partially blocked game winning field goal, and the road teams winning three of the four wild card round playoff games, I laid an 0-4 egg in my wildcard weekend playoff predictions.
Let get busy getting back to .500
Saturday Playoff Games
#6 Indianapolis Colts (11-6) at #1 Kansas City Chiefs (12-4) at 3:35 PM on NBC
The Colts (boo hiss) ended the Texans season in large part to them rushing for 200 yards and being nearly perfect on third down. But they face a another challenge in playing in a snowy Arrowhead Stadium against the presumptive NFL MVP in Patrick Mahomes
Mahomes will be in his first playoff game, Luck his eighth. What will also in the back of KC's minds are being sick and tired of hearing about what happened the last time they faced the Colts in the playoffs.
The Chiefs built a huge 28 point lead in that January 4, 2014 game lead, only to fall to Indy 45-44 after Luck and crew executed the second largest comeback from a playoff deficit in NFL history.
With the weather condition I don't think you'll see 99 points scored in this game.
The Colts are on a roll, the Chiefs have been one of the best teams in the AFC all season. They are well rested and ready to defend their snowy turf.
The Chiefs to end Indy's season and advance to the AFC title game
#4 Dallas Cowboys (11-6) at #2 Los Angeles Rams (13-3)at 7:15 PM CST on FOX
The Saturday night game is an NFL classic matchup between two teams that have frequently bumped heads in the playoffs .
The Cowboys won their first playoff game in four years when they eliminated the Seahawks at Jerry World, but now they have to head to the Left Coast to play the Rams in this divisional round game in
LaLa Land.
While the Rams and Cowboys, this is the first time they have done so in Los Angeles since 1985 when I gleefully watched Eric Dickerson run over around and through them for 248 yards in a Rams blowout divisional round win. In fact, the last time the Cowboys won a road playoff game was in 1993 up I-5 in San Francisco.
While the Cowboys have shown a propensity for shutting down high powered offenses this season, they have also had a problem scoring in the red zone.
That will bite them in the behind today.. Rams to advance to the NFC championship.
Sunday Playoff Games
#4 Los Angeles Chargers(13-4) at #2 New England Patriots (11-5) at 12:05 PM CST on CBS
The Chargers had to sweat out a late fourth quarter run by the Ravens before they secured the win, and now they step into Gillette Stadium to take on the New England Patriots.
It'll be a clash between future Hall of Fame quarterbacks in Tom Brady and Phillip Rivers, and the Chargers have been one of the best teams in the league all season. New England hasn't been their usual dominant self , but it may finally catch up to them in this game.
It's hard to pick against Brady and Belichick in Gillette Stadium, and the fact that Philip Rivers has never bested Brady in the playoffs. That streak has to end sometime, and I'm listening to my instincts like I failed to do last weekend and going for the upset.
The Chargers to move on to the AFC title game
#6 Philadelphia Eagles (10-7) vs #1 New Orleans Saints (13-3) at 3:40 PM CST on FOX
It's the only one of the four divisional round games that is a regular season rematch and being played indoors
The defending champion Eagles are only back here in the Mercedes Benz Superdome because of Treyvon Hester's partial block of a game winning field goal that bounced off the upright and crossbar at Soldier Field and agonizingly for Bears fans ended their season.
The Saints spanked that behind 48-7 back in Week 11, and the Eagles since then have been in desperation playoff mode for several weeks now. They have had to scratch and claw and get lucky breaks at times just to get into the playoffs and have the opportunity to defend their crown.
But once again, they are playing the Saints in NOLA, where they are even more dominant than they are outside of it. This is also Drew Brees' best shot at returning to a Super Bowl , and he's motivated after falling short last year.
Nick Foles' playoff magic gets a voodoo curse placed on it called the Saints defense
The Saints go marching into the NFC Championship game after winning what won't be a blowout.

Sarah Thomas Making NFL History Again
It's often said in sports circles that the best officials are ones whose names don't get in the headlines or don't make ESPN Sports Center for making bad calls.
Sarah Thomas' name is in the headlines again because she is a trailblazer, and that's always a good thing.
The Mississippi native and mother of three kids is in her fourth season as a NFL official, and is STILL making history. She is the first woman to not only officiate in an NFL preseason and regular season game, she is also the first to officiate in a regular season college game, a college bowl game, and the first to do so in a Big Ten Conference stadium.
The other interesting note for me is that Thomas' first NFL game was right here in Houston. She was part of referee Pete Morelli's officiating crew working the September 13, 2015 game at NRG Stadium between the Kansas City Chiefs and my Texans.
When the playoff game between the Los Angeles Changers and New EnglandCheatriots Patriots kicks off this weekend at Gillette Stadium, Thomas will become the first woman to officiate an NFL playoff game.
If you're wondering how NFL referees get assigned to the high stakes playoff games, it is based on a merit system. Officials are individually graded by the league office for their work on every play during regular season games.
The system takes into account calls the make or don't make. There are also subjective elements that play a part in the evaluations such as communication, decisiveness, game management, rules knowledge and positioning on the field.
The scores are tabulated, and the officials are placed in three tiers. Tier I officials are eligible to work in the Super Bowl or the AFC and NFL conference championship games. Tier II officials are assigned to the wild card or divisional round playoff games
If you're in Tier III, you not only don't work any playoff games, you are probably looking at being placed on probation. Two consecutive years in Tier III leads to your dismissal from the NFL's officiating ranks.
We now know based on her assignment to this divisional round playoff game, that Sarah Thomas was in the Tier II group of officials for the 2018 NFL season. Hopefully one day we will see her make more history officiating a conference championship game or a Super Bowl.
It's a safe bet that will probably happen for her sooner rather than later.

The Winner Of The 2018 NFL Prognostication Contest Is...
Not moi.
That would be Michael Watts. who successfully defended his title after I imploded in the second half of the season to the point I even forgot to make a pick in the Chiefs- Raiders game yesterday.
That turned one gimme correct pick into an automatic loss per our contest rules because it wasn't posted at least 10 minutes before the game's scheduled kickoff time.
Oh well.
At least my Texans are in the playoffs and went from worst to first to capture their third AFC South crown in the last four years.
Now can they make it to at least the AFC Championship game? Tired of them going out in the Wild Card or Divisional round.
Congrats Mr. Watts! All hail the defending back to back NFL prognostication champion.

TransGriot 2018 NFL Picks- Week 17
The last week of the 2018 NFL season, and thanks to the Saints beating the Steelers in NOLA last weekend, the Texans clinched a playoff spot. A win today clinches the AFC South title with a chance to get as high as a number one seed in the AFC playoff bracket and a bye into the Divisional playoff round if a few things break our way.
But first things first, the Texans must beat the Jacksonville Jaguars at NRG Stadium today.
Mike and I tied for Week 16 honors with identical 11-5 records, but this is the last week of the regular season and I have a four game deficit to erase just to tie for the 2018 title.
Let's get to it. Everybody's playing today. Teams I'm picking to win in bold print with HOME team in caps. Mike's Week 17 picks are here at this link.

The upset bug was in full effect during NFL Week 15, and I came with a losing record for the week as a result. One of those upsets was the New England Patriots losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers to hand the Texans the number two AFC playoff seed.
Merry early Christmas! Thank you Steelers!
Now all my hometown ballers have to do to keep it is win their last two games against the defending NFL champion Eagles and the Jacksonville Jaguars or the Patriots continue to feel the holiday spirit and lose one more game.
But you got to start scoring touchdowns in the red zone instead of kicking field goals. Make the defense's life easier.
Speaking of making life easier, I've got to do better than a sub .500 week. That probably cost me a shot at the 2018 NFL prognostication title with Mr. Watts.
Can't do anything about it now but regroup. Let's get to it.
Y'all know the drill. Team I'm picking to win will be in bold print with the home team in CAPS. Mike's Week 16 picks will be here at this link.

TransGriot 2018 NFL Picks -Week 15
They beat them.
This time it took a miracle flea flicker play for it to happen for the Dolphins, but beat the Pats in Florida they did. And should've gone with my instincts on that one.
Nevertheless, I persisted and despite a .500 record, won the week.
Now we're in Week 15, which we'll have the last Thursday night contest of the season and two Saturday games. One of the Saturday games involve my hometown NFL ballplayers, who will probably be very pissed off about the way they played at NRG Stadium last Sunday.
Let's get to those Week 15 picks. As per usual, team I'm selecting to win is in bold print with the home team in CAPS. Mike's Week 15 picks will be here at this link.

TransGriot 2018 NFL Picks-Week 14
Aw yeah, my fave NFL franchise is on a roll right now. A franchise best nine game winning streak and a favorable schedule down the stretch to improve on their now 9-3 record after the Texans Bulls on Parade defense obliterated the Cleveland Browns 29-13.
Will they get number 10 in a row? Keep reading. But y'all got to score more TD's.
Now if the Patriots would lose one more game so we can get the number two seed and home field for another playoff round. They have a tendency to lose to the Dolphins on humid days in Miami, but it's December.
And as much as y'all know as a Houston resident I despise the Arlington Cowchips, have to give them credit for rebounding the way they have since they lost to the Texans.
Defending champion Mr Watts and I tied for Week 13 because he just committed the error that cost me a threepeat title last year. He forgot to pick a winner in the Seahawks-49ers game, and under our contest rules any game not picked before its kickoff is an automatic loss.
We'll see in a few weeks if that costs him in Week 17.
It's Week 14. 16 more contests, and with teams jockeying for playoff seeding and just to get in the playoffs, anything can happen.
As usual, teams I'm picking to win will be in bold print with the HOME team in all CAPS. Mike's Week 14 picks (and I presume after last week he'll make doubly sure he got them all) will be available at this link.
Then again, I made that same mistake Mike made TWICE last year.

TransGriot 2018 NFL Picks-Week 13
We are now in December. It's not only crunch time for NFL teams seeking to make the playoffs, but for me and Mr Watts battling for NFL prognostication supremacy.
I definitely enjoyed the Texans Monday night demolition of the Tennessee Traitors. The nationally televised win was the Texans eighth consecutive after starting the season 0-3, and kept them at the top of the AFC South. Now they have an upcoming potential trap game with the not a laughingstock Cleveland Browns they need to navigate.
I rebounded after a sub 500 week, but must do better because despite the above .500 week, I'm now trailing in the season long prognostication contest. Didn't help that Mike just missed a perfect week because of the Broncos and the Browns upsets.
Let's get to NFL Week 13 which starts with a massive game with the red hot New Orleans Saints facing the DallasCowchips Cowboys
No more bye weeks. Everybody's playing either on Thursday, Sunday or Monday. Teams I'm picking to win in bold print with HOME team in caps. Mike's Week 13 picks here.

TransGriot 2018 NFL Picks- Week 12
At least the Texans won their seventh straight game and will go for their eighth consecutive win against the despised Tennessee Traitors on Monday night.
It's Turkey Day, and the games scheduled are anything but turkeys in the Bears-Lions, Cowboys-Washington and Saints-Falcons.
Let me get to my Week 12 picks because I want the stench of that losing week off of me, and once again I've frittered away a lead in this season long prognostication contest..

TransGriot 2018 NFL Picks- Week 11
Did a much better job in Week 10 of picking that week's NFL games than I did in the previous week as my hometown NFL squad got to chill out on their bye week while riding a six game win streak after starting the season 0-3.
But they go to Washington DC to take on the NFL franchise with the racist nickname I refuse to repeat. They, like the Texans, happen to be leading their division with an identical 6-3 record. Former Texans DJ Swearinger is already talking smack in advance of the Texans trip to FedEx Field. We'll see who's talking after the game.
We'll also have a amazing clash of 9-1 teams between the Rams and Chiefs that could be a possible preview of Super Bowl LIII. The game was originally scheduled to be played in Mexico City, but was moved back to LA because of poor field conditions.
It'll be the first Monday Night game played in the LA Coliseum since 1985.
Let's get ready to prognosticate. Another six teams, the Bills, Browns, Dolphins, Jets, Patriots and 49ers will be watching everybody else play. So with only 13 games on the schedule, have to make sure I get more than 7 picks right and avoid a sub-.500 week. Perfect week would be ideal.
So let's get to the Week 11 picks. Team I like will be in bold print with HOME team in CAPS. Mike's picks will be at this link.

TransGriot 2018 NFL Picks- Week 9
The calendar has flipped to November, the NFL trading deadline passed on October 30, and we're past the halfway point of the NFL season with my Texans, after stumbling out of the gate 0-3, now on a five game winning streak and in first place in the AFC South with a two game lead on the Tennessee Traitors.
And at the trading deadline, they added Demaryius Thomas to our receiving corps after Will Fuller tore his ACL in last week's win over the Dolphins.
In Week 8 of the NFL prognostication contest I have going with Mr Watts, both of us tied with 13-1 records, narrowly missing getting that first ever perfect week. I got the Seahawks-Lions game wrong, and Mike got the Cardinals- 49ers one incorrect.
I still have the lead going into the second half of the season, and it's time to build on it. Only have 13 games to pick because six teams, the Cardinals, Bengals, Jaguars, Colts, Eagles and Giants are all on their bye week.
Y'all know the drill. Teams I pick to win in bold print with the HOME team in caps. Mike's picks will be available via this link

TransGriot 2018 NFL Picks- Week 8
We are now at the halfway point of the 2018 NFL season. We have a great idea which teams are looking like Super Bowl contenders, and which ones are pretenders competing for the first pick of the 2019 NFL Draft.
My Texans are now in first place in the AFC South after stomping the Jaguars. They are playing playing a home game unde the Thursday Night lights against the Miami Dolphins and Brock Osweiler. This should be fun. Keep reading to see who I picked in that game.
I had an excellent NFL Week 7, and can't wait to get at it and continue the positive momentum.
