TransGriot 2014 NFL Picks Week 15

Had another great week of picking NFL games with a respectable 11-5 Week 14 record.

However, it still wasn't good enough to make a dent in Mr. Watts' sizable lead and I have only three weeks left in the regular season.

Our WTF Game for Week 14 had to be the San Francisco 49ers losing to the Oakland Raiders.

I guess the Raiders wanted those NFL Bay Area bragging rights worse than the Niners did.

Speaking of football teams, my fave NFL ballers have a critical game this Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.  However, the Texans are 0 for Indianapolis in their franchise history, and probably need to win this game and the upcoming ones against the Ravens and the Jaguars to finish 10-6 and have a shot at joining the AFC playoff party.

Will they do it?  Not sure.   The Texans have had buzzard's luck in the RCA Dome and Lucas Oil Stadium.   It was self explanatory when Peyton Manning was the Colts QB, but the Texans inexplicably lost a game in Indy when the Colts were struggling to finish 2-14 and they were rolling to an AFC South division title.

We'll see if that negative 0 for Indy streak ends when they kick off at Lucas Oil Stadium at 12 noon CST.

I know JJ Watt will be on his A+  NFL MVP level game.   Just need Ryan Fitzpatrick to play somewhat close to that level for the next three weeks.

But back to discussing the 2014 prognostication season for a moment.   Me and my fellow prognosticators all tied for top honors last week, but that was not the case in Week 14.  Mike rolled to a 13-3 record to pad his lead to a whopping 11 games.  Short of a massive collapse, he's well on his way to taking his first  solo  prognostication title.

Well, at least I'm not bringing up the rear this year.

TransGriot 2014 NFL Picks Week 14

Another week of NFL games has gone by and I had a great Turkey Day.  I got to see my Texans win and the Cowboys lose.  But unfortunately for me Mr Watts' lead isn't shrinking and I'm running out of time to catch him.

Well, speaking of catches, JJ Watt had another TD catch in the blowout win against the Tennessee Traitors.   He's the first defensive end to have 5 TD's in a season since 1944 and probably merits serious consideration for NFL defensive player of the year.

We also had something interesting happen int that for the first time ever, all three of us tied with a 10-6 record.

It's now December, and the games all matter as teams are jockeying for playoff positioning and Mr Watts barring a serious collapse is cruising toward his first NFL prognostication title.

Sixteen games the rest of the way.   My picks in underlined bold print.

TransGriot 2014 NFL Picks Week 13

Today is Thanksgiving Day and the start of Turkey Day weekend for those of us in the USA.

You TransGriot Canadian readers got your Turkey Day grub on last month.

So we get to do so by eating mass quantities of food and checking out NFL football on the television.

Well, if I had a TV, I would.  But that's another story.   One of the drawbacks of moving just before a holiday.   But then again I'll be able to get one on sale Friday.

And it's probably a good thing I didn't have a TV last Sunday, otherwise I may have thrown stuff at it in reaction to another frustrating Texans loss.

Anyway, had another amazing week of picking NFL games, but definitely didn't see Oakland finally winning one against all peeps, the Kansas City Chiefs.    But unfortunately Mike had an even better 13-2 one than my 11-4  and I'm running out of time to catch him.

Well, Week 13 is now here and everybody's playing games for the rest of the season.   16 games to pick, mine's will be in underlined bold print.

TransGriot 2014 NFL Picks Week 12

(Photo by Jason Miller/Getty Images) It was a Sunday full of upsets that nearly sent me to another below .500 record but I ran the table in the afternoon and Sunday and Monday night games to salvage a 8-6 record out of it.

One of those games I didn't get right was the Texans beating the Cleveland Browns.  It featured JJ Watt scoring his second offensive touchdown of the season on a marvelous catch.

Watt is the first defensive lineman since 1948 to score at least 4 touchdowns in a season, and there may be more of them in store for the hardest working d-lineman in the NFL before this season is over.

Yeah, he's earning every penny of that new extended contract that makes him the highest paid defensive end (for now) in the league.

NFL Week 12 is upon us, and this is the last week of the season in which teams get a bye week.  This time it's the Steelers and Panthers that get to have a seat and watch everyone else play.

That means only 15 games to pick this week.and I have to make up ground on Mike fast instead of just mirror his weekly record.. My picks for this week as usual in underlined bold print.

TransGriot 2014 NFL Picks Week 11

I rebounded rather nicely in Week 10 with my NFL picks after that disastrous sub-.500 week we'll see if it costs me my chance at  the 2014 NFL Prognostication Title.

I went a stellar 10-3 to tie for weekly honors.  Unfortunately so did Mike, so I failed to make a dent in his now six game lead on me.   But I did pick up a game on Eli, who went 9-4.

Mike wants a solo title after being denied by me and Eli for the last two years despite going on monster down the stretch finishing kicks.   Mike is going to have to choke down the stretch for me and Eli to have a chance to catch him/

Speaking of rebounds, that's what my fave NFL team is seeking to do after finally benching Ryan Fitzpatrick and giving the starting job to Ryan Mallett after falling to 4-5 after starting the season 3-1..

Ryan Mallett is about to get his first chance to prove wrong such critics as former Texans general manager Charley Casserly.
I and many other peeps in H-town think Case Keenum should still be here, or the Texans should have drafted Teddy Bridgewater,  but that's another point of contention for all of us armchair general managers to debate later.

Is Mallett the answer at QB for the Texans despite only throwing four regular season passes as he backed up Tom Brady in New England, or are the Texans right back where they started at quarterback when they said goodbye to Matt Schaub?

Starting this Sunday, we Texans fans will find out the answer to that question.

But time to handle my NFL prognostication business for Week 11.  We have 14 games to pick with the Ravens, Cowboys, Jaguars and NY Jets on their bye week after consecutive weeks with only 13 games on the schedule.

TransGriot 2014 NFL Picks Week 10

Well, last week was a disastrous one for me as I had a sub .500 week, and it was bad timing for it because I'm fighting to stay close to Mike and Eli.  This was also the first time this season I picked against the Texans, and sadly got it right.

But I also had a few upsets wreck my picks last week in my defense.

Well, won't have to worry about the Texans this week because they are on their bye week along with the Colts, Patriots, Vikings, Chargers, and the Washington NFL Franchise.

Told y'all I'm refusing to call them by their racist nickname.

Well, I'm ready to move on to Week 10.   Once again, only 13 games to pick because six teams are on their bye week, and not a lot of room for error.   My picks will be as usual in underlined bold print.

TransGriot 2014 NFL Picks Week 9

We are now past the halfway mark of the 2014 NFL regular season and our prognostication contest.

While once again I had a respectable week picking games, the frustrating pattern continues with one of my opponents doing slightly better.

Hey, considering the drama I've been through over the last few weeks, it's amazing I'm still in this.

And it's always a good week when the Texans beat the Tennessee Traitors and the Cowboys lose.

But I also lost ground on Mike, who expanded his lead to three games in our contest no thanks to Tampa Bay blowing that game to Minnesota in OT.

It figures the one week I pick the Arlington Cowchips to win, they revert to past form and lose at home to the Washington Need To Change Their NFL Nickname From That Racial Slur ASAP.

As I mentioned, the Texans ended that three game losing streak (and they are  out of my blogging NFL doghouse for now), but they face a Philadelphia Eagles team that will probably be pissed off when they come to NRG Stadium.

Well, let's get to my Week 9 NFL picks.   Only 13 games to select because there are six teams on their bye week (Falcons, Bills, Bears, Lions, Packers and Titans)

My picks are in underlined bold print as usual, and when Eli and Mike's are available, they'll be linked to later.

TransGriot 2014 NFL Picks-Week 8

It's the halfway point of the 2014 NFL season, and at this point in the season long prognostication battle I've been waging with Mike and defending champ Eli it has been tight.

But I did hold the overall lead in our competition for six weeks until I slipped and had that 9-5-1 Week 6 while Mr Watts was going 11-3-1 to take over the lead by one game

Well, in Week 7 It came down to the Texans-Steelers game to sort out who not only won the week at 11-4, but who would take the lead in our competition.   No thanks to the Texans having a late second quarter meltdown Mike and Eli won this week.

Thank heavens this competition is still tight and I have eight weeks to stay in position to win it.

But I'm so pissed off at the Texans right now I don't even want to post a pic of them after this game that they threw away.   I'll let y'all look at Adriana Lima instead.

Well, here's this week's picks.  15 games once again with the NY Giants and San Francisco 49ers on their bye week.   My picks as usual will be in underlined bold print, Mike and Eli's will be here once they become available.

TransGriot 2014 NFL Picks-Week 7

Getting closer to the midway point of what has been not only a competitive NFL season, but a tight competition for the 2014 season prognostication championship between myself, Eli and Mike.

Once again I had a good week, but not good enough. My esteemed competition had double digit wins with Mike taking Week 6.

So yeah, gotta step it up now that I no longer have the lead.   NFL Week 7 is upon us with another 15 games to select from,   Philadelphia and Tampa Bay are on their bye week.

So let's get busy and see if I can do better than last week.

My picks will be in underlined bold print, when Mike and Eli's are available I'll link to them.

TransGriot 2014 NFL Picks- Week 6

I had another fantastic week picking NFL games, going 12-3 in Week 5.

Only problem, that wasn't good enough to win the week.   Eli and Mike beat me because of the result of the Dallas-Houston game that ended with the (yuck) Cowchips winning in overtime.

No rest for the Texans, because they now have to dive into AFC South play and deal with H-town homeboy Andrew Luck and his Colts coming to NRG Stadium for a nationally televised first place showdown.

Since the Texans have yet to win a game in Indianapolis, this one is magnified.

So they better handle their football business    Great place to start would be to play four quarters of football and force teams to try to come back on them instead of the other way around.

Speaking of handling football business, time to get the Week 6 picks out of the way.   Only 15 games to pick because the Chiefs and Saints are on their bye week.

My picks will be in underlined bold print, Eli's and Mike's I'll link to here once they are available.  Our prognostication contest is still tight, and I'm still leading, but not by much.

TransGriot 2014 NFL Picks-Week 5

Aww yeah, had a great Week 4 picking games and for a minute it was looking possible I was finally going to get my elusive perfect week.

Then the NFL afternoon and evening games, Tampa Bay's upset of the Steelers and the Chiefs hammering the Patriots Monday night happened.

I still ended up with a respectable 8-5 record to win the week while Eli and Mike had a rough Week 3.

Now comes the week that every Texans fan has waited for since they announced the 2014 schedule back in April.  It's a regular season match up at Jerryworld with the hated Dallas Cowboys.

Sunday's Craziest Play: Watt Takes Pick 80 Yards for the Touchdown Against BillsOne of the highlights of the Texans inaugural season in 2002 was that 19-10 opening win at Reliant over the hated Cowchips.   Unfortunately the last two matchups in 2006 and 2010 went their way.

But this time the Cowchips will have to deal with Justin James Watt and the Texans defense.   Hopefully Good Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Texans rushing attack atones for their sorry performance against the Bills this Sunday.

We will find out who emerges victorious in the Governor's Cup Battle on Sunday, but time to get to the Week 5 NFL picks.  There are only 15 games to pick this week because Miami and Oakland went across The Pond to play and are getting their bye week.

Dennis Allen is spending it cleaning out his office and looking for a new job after the Raiders fired him yesterday.

As usual, my picks will be in underlined bold print.  Mike and Eli's will be here.

TransGriot 2014 NFL Picks-Week 4

I rebounded from that subpar 7-9 Week 2 to have a great Week 3.  While my 11-5 record was outstanding, unfortunately Eli matched me and Mike's 13-3 was even better.

So my initial advantage I grabbed with that outstanding Week 1 has shrunk to a one game lead.  But this contest is never a sprint, it's a marathon with the strategy of having more good weeks than bad ones so you come out on top at the end of the season

Texans' DeAndre Hopkins Makes Great 1-Handed Catch Against Giants
Speaking of coming out on top, that's not what happened for the Texans in New Jersey last weekend as Bad Ryan Fitzpatrick showed up at the worst time with Arian Foster on the bench nursing a sore hamstring. in their 30-17 loss

And I have  another piece of advice for coach O'Brien.  Throw  Deandre Hopkins the ball more often.

Buffalo comes to NRG Stadium to play, and it is imperative the Texans get whatever ailed them in last week's game fixed fast.   We Texans fans still remember them getting off to a 2-0 start and subsequently losing their next 14 games, so they better handle their business this week and especially next week at Jerryworld.

So let's get to the Week 4 NFL Picks.     We have teams starting to go on their bye weeks, so only 13 games to pick.   The Cardinals, Bengals, Browns, Broncos, Rams and Seahawks get to watch 'errbody' else play this week while the Raiders and Dolphins game will be played at Wembley Stadium in London.

My picks are in underlined bold print.   Eli and Mike's picks will be here.

TransGriot 2014 NFL Picks-Week 3

After getting off to a great 11-5 start in Week 1, the upset bug and a few close games that didn't go my way ravaged my Week 2 selections.   But I still had a better week than NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

He had to (and still is) dealing with the fallout from the NFL PR week from Hades in the wake of the Ray Rice and other domestic abuse scandals involving NFL players.

More pleasant news to moi is my fave NFL team for the fifth straight season has started with a 2-0 record.   Yeah, yeah I'm well aware of what happened to the Texans last year. that's why we have a new coach and defensive coordinator

So let's get to NFL Week 3.  It's another sixteen games, and my picks to win  are in underlined bold print

TransGriot 2014 NFL Picks-Week 2

"I want to get off to a good start and lay the foundation.  This week and the next four weeks of the 2014 NFL season will reveal which teams are contenders and which teams are pretenders fighting for the first pick of the 2015 NFL Draft next May. "
TransGriot, September 4, 2014.

Mission accomplished with an 11-5 opening week.

Week 1 of the NFL season is always a crapshoot, especially when you're trying to pick what teams are going to win games.  You don't have much solid info to base your picks on.  Players and coaches have moved on to new teams during the offseason.  There are retirements, suspensions, and rookies altering team chemistry from the previous season to also factor in your decisions along with track record over the last few season and whether it's a home or away game.

It's usually the most nerve racking week, and I got through it better than expected.

So did the Texans, who thanks in large part to JJ Watt and his defensive teammates, helped snap their 14 game losing streak dating back to last season with the 17-6 season opening win against the Washington NFL club at NRG Stadium.

Now it's NFL Week 2, and I want to keep the positive prognostication contest momentum going from the better than expected first week while my esteemed opponents both had .500 weeks.

I'm getting right to it.  Another sixteen games, and the team I'm selecting to win will be in underlined bold print.   Mike and Eli's picks are here.
