Simon Cowell Unleashes Transphobic Comment At Sistah Contestant

I've never like American Idol or Simon Cowell, and seeing this story made me like him even less.

Simon has a new American Idol style show he produces in Great Britain called X Factor.

A former contestant maned Annastasia Baker was making a return to the show after nreaking down on stage during a 2008 performance.

During this latest edition she performed Tina Turner's 'Proud Mary' during an audition.

Then came Cowell's critique of her performance, in which he stated: "I have seen trannies do better versions of the song".

Her father Ian Baker, still majorly pissed about what happened to her in 2008, fired back.

“Annastasia spent a lot of money on her image and had poured time and effort into it. No father wants to hear his daughter being called a tranny, especially after everything she has been through with the show in the past.”

Amen, Mr. Baker. At least you defended your daughter. That's more than I can say for most Black men who condone and even use transphobic slurs against Black women.

While there are lots of things we transpeople can do quite well, Simon, find some other way to slam the singing abilities of cis women contestants besides calling them 'trannies'.

Happy Birthday Caroline Cossey!

One of our pioneering trans women of the 70's and 80's was born on this August 31 date in Britain.

She was a model and a Bond Girl until a British tabloid outed her. She also fought for trans marriage rights in her home country.

Today she's on our side of The Pond happily married to her hubby in an undisclosed location in the great state of Georgia at last report.

Happy birthday, Caroline! My this day be filled with abundant blessings for you and may you have many more.

Sade's Working On A New Album!

I've loved me some Sade ever since her slammin' debut album 'Diamond Life' hit the airwaves in 1985.

I own every one of her albums, but unfortunately new Sade material is about as rare as NBA playoff appearances for the LA Clippers.

Even though I and 'errbody' else who loves Sade have to wait almost a decade before she records another album, it still doesn't dampen my enthusiastic love for her music.

Judging by her record sales I'm probably not the only person in the States who feels that way.

Since 1985 Sade has sold 17 million albums. The last album she released, 2000's 'Lovers Rock' sold 3.9 million copies in the States. 1992's 'Love Deluxe', the album that preceded it sold 3.4 million.

Now comes word confirmed by Billboard.com sources that Sade has been in the studio since June working on her first album of new songs in nine years. Her record company Sony is hoping for a late fall 2009-early 2010 release date on the new as yet untitled album.

People, I know what one of the presents high on my 2009 Christmas list is going to be besides some new shoes. But whenever the new Sade jam comes out, I'll be at my local music store picking it up if it doesn't arrive in my Christmas stocking.
