Texas School Boards Doing TBLG Civil Rights Two Step

We're going to have an interesting TBLG civil rights positive two step taking place in Houston and Dallas on the eve of the Texas Transgender Nondiscrimination Summit.

What the TTNS deals with is education policy as it applies to trans people.  It's wonderful that we have two school board meetings taking up TBLG education specific issues transpiring in the Lone Star State on the same night.

It's also cool to me that it's happening the night before the TTNS..

The Houston Independent School District Board of Trustees will be conducting the second reading and final vote for the inclusion of gender identity and sexual orientation in the district's employment policy.   The trustees of the state's largest school district voted 7-0 during a June 23 school board meeting to approve the proposed policy during the first reading phase and hope I'm able to watch history being made at the Hattie Mae White Building.

Meanwhile 262 miles up I-45 north is the second largest school district in Texas and the twelfth largest in the United States, the Dallas Independent School District.

According to Rafael McDonnell of Resource Center Dallas, the DISD Board of Trustees will be meeting to consider adding the same sexual orientation and gender identity language to its own district employment policies.

Thursday night's meeting is the first phase discussion and vote, with the final vote on the proposed policy scheduled for August 25.

Here's hoping that both the HISD and DISD efforts in this Texas TBLG civil rights two step are successful and we have some exciting news to talk about during the TTNS.

No Wonder We Have A Large Trans Community In Texas

One of the things that is not well known is that the Lone Star State not only has significant clusters of trans people in Austin, San Antonio, Dallas and Houston,  but trans Texans come from and reside in cities from the Panhandle, East and West Texas to the Rio Grande Valley.

We trans Texans have been driving forces in terms of shaping and providing innovative leadership inside and outside the state and for the national trans community as the five IFGE Trinity Award winners that have resided in the state are testimony to.

What set off this latest round of Texas bragging is Cristan unearthing another nugget of trans history with a Lone Star twist to it.    It's a 1936 article in a Dallas newspaper that announced a successful Female to Male surgery on a 15 year old patient

Dallas Mavericks Are The NBA Champs!

LeBron James took his talents to South Beach and joned Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh to form a superstar laden Big Three that was supposed to start an NBA dynasty in Miami. .

Somebody forgot to tell the Dallas Mavericks that this was supposed to be a title coronation for 'the Heatles' and King James.

As ESPN NFL analyst Herman Edwards once said when he was an NFL coach, 'that's why you play the games'.

If the two time defending NBA champion LA Lakers getting swept and pimp slapped in the Game 4 Western Conference semis clincher in Dallas didn't send the message that this 2010-11 Mavericks team was a little different than previous Dallas NBA squads, then peeps weren't paying attention or discounted they had the heart of a champion.

The North Texas NBA franchise founded in 1980 finally has their first NBA championship trophy after beating Miami 105-95 in their building to take Game 6 and the 2010-11 NBA title to go with it.

Just a reminder Little D, the Rockets have two, the Spurs have four.

Jason Terry and Dirk Nowitzki, the lone players remaining from that squad exorcised the ghosts of 2006 NBA finals failure to the delight of probably every Heat hater in the country and especially Cleveland while avenging the Miami title win on their home floor five years ago.

It was also cool to see Jason Kidd finally get his ring after 17 years of chasing it.

Hey Dallas Maverick fans, no championship parade riots this time, okay?
